That's killer!

Thanks for the write up. Not working for me. Nothing SHIFTED shows up in DCS even though it all works in the Virpil Control Panel. Scratching my head on this one. It doesn't help that Virpil has no information on SHIFTING in the manual to date.

Hi Cobra, I'm hoping to have them done in a week or two. Had more severe weather roll through first thing this morning and also spent the last three days trying to configure my Virpil setup I just bought. I did manage to finish the last XO bird c.2016. I have to do a few GAGs, then I'm doing a Mig-29 Camo VFA-106 that was a A model. It's such rare of a scheme for 106, I cannot pass up doing it even though it is an A model. All of my VFA-204, 321 and 451 birds were A models. I see no reason not to include the 106 camo bird. For the purists out there, simply don't install it if it bugs you. Anyway, they will be done when they are done. Like I said, hopefully a week or two. It depends on what I find that I need to correct and how much more severe weather we have to contend with where I live. Tuesday is another round of severe storms that may produce tornadoes in my area. Sucks!

Just put this up over at e-Bay. Bidding starts at $300. Any offer of $350 takes them. Would prefer to sell here. If interested let me know ASAP, as once I have a bid, I have to sell on e-Bay. https://www.ebay.com/itm/Thrustmaster-HOTAS-Warthog/323797675631

very cool. One of my favorite skins. Thanks for sharing.

Me either. I dove into these just before the templates were released for the Tomcat. My buddy, Carl, post above yours, is on me to get some VF-32 T-cats done. It doesn't help he keeps feeding me cool F-18C pics though. LOL!

I circled back around to the 30 year anniversary bird. The gold, or lack thereof, was bugging me. As was the grey slat leading edge. So I dove into the roughmets today and added the bling. The gold now shines metallic as do the slat leading edges when the sun hits them as they should. This is by far my favorite F-18 that I've painted to date. I'm going to be rechecking the stenciling now. I think I need to recreate the warning decals on the cockpit. Other than that, this one is almost completely done.

Thanks. The warning and stencil decals you hooked me up with made things go much quicker. I am torn between modifying them on these though as the decals for these IRL are not as rectangular. Haven't decided yet as that's a lot of work. Knowing me, I'll probably do it. I've got that one XO bird left to do with the newer shield graphic. Once the XO birds are done it's just a matter of copying the folder and changing the colors on the graphics and the pilot names and I'll have line birds for each variant. Also, the only CAG bird I could find was on a Alpha model back in 1991. I also found a more current 300 bird but it was a Delta model. I'm assuming they used the Delta for the CAG bird. I'm not sure If I should paint up a Charlie CAG since we'll never have a Delta in the game anytime soon. Thoughts? I do have a 2016 Charlie CAG to work off of. Thanks, Carl.

Alright, Gents. I've got a slew of pictures for you. All are XO birds from 2004, 2006, 2008, and 2014. I still have to do the latter birds. But these are done. Finally got through the retarded UV mapping issue on the spine of this model. I like to died when I realized that they used three different fonts across the spine. And, they are located differently for each. PITA! The frustration of dealing with that and dodging severe weather the last few weeks had worn me down so I put painting down for a bit. Glad I did, as when I hopped back in today, I saw a few issues that needed to be addressed. The size of the roundels, incorrect font alignment, The size of the numbers on the wings, and a few names corrected. Each one is different. Here's the first one. 2004.

Yes it will. Sorry for the delay in updates. We've been having really bad severe weather down here and that kind of takes my mind away from painting. Gotta stay alive to be able to paint. I've been having significant difficulty in aligning the "GLADIATORS" text on the spine of the last XO bird I'm doing. The UV stretching is making it almost impossible on this one. The seam cut's right across the R on the left side and the R is both too big and too small at the same time. Uggghhh!

F14 Skinners thread (Paintkit in 1st post)

To Heatblur, can you please fix the off center main gear wheel hub texture? Wobbly wheel centers on this aircraft make it look rushed to market. -
Heatblurs 3D sound systems in their modules?

Not required to hear how terribly the external sounds are implemented in this mod. -
Heatblurs 3D sound systems in their modules?

I didn't know you have to have flown a plane to hear what they sound like in videos. My bad! -
Thanks for the fix.

Heatblurs 3D sound systems in their modules?
Bananimal replied to Fri13's topic in Heatblur Simulations
The sound is horribly implemented in my honest opinion. Hopefully, they will take the time to get it right. The aircraft sounds like it moving at 350 knots all the time. No matter what the throttle position. Super unrealistic and extremely disappointing for me. -
Just a mention. The tail and visor color is a very dark blue. Not sure if it is what you used, but the color looks black in sim with your current iteration. Great work man.

Finished the CoNA bird night before last. Making some changes and spent some time taping the helmets. I also am 2/3 finished first XO bird. Tonight I need to learn how to create vector images of the stenciling as I am not happy with the loss of readability of the text. Once I figure that out, if it is even possible, I will reapply the danger and warning stencils to all aircraft. I also received a very cordial PM from Grimes, the creator of the other skin. He pointed out that my post looks vain. As I explained to him, I did not post to berate, but to show other skinners what to look for when skinning. Also, to show non-skinners just how much consideration needs to go into a skin to get it right. I could put it in text, as I did, and it's not the same as a side-by-side comparison. A picture is worth a thousand words and I saw it as an opportunity to show just how much work goes into my skins. It ain't easy. Sorry if it came off as an insult Grimes, but if we can't point out how to become better at what we do, then the entire community loses. That's my thoughts on the subject. I'm sure my skins could be picked apart too. In fact, the guys I fly with do just that, and I welcome it. It's how I get better. Anyway, here's some pics of the CoNA: EDIT: These pics were before it was completed. It has since received the "MARINES" decal on the right side of the tail.

Here's the difference between my version of this scheme and the other. You can flip back and forth between the pictures using the previous and next buttons to see how much of a difference there is. Especially with the striping layout and stenciling. I presume one will most certainly be a better rendition than the other.
