  1. I'd rather have an option to hear English voices with an accent for all transmissions. Yes, the sound of hearing Russian voices is more authentic, but hearing the voices in a language that I can't understand is not realistic. I know that there is subtitles, but I miss at least half of them.
  2. I was wondering the same thing because in Lockon you could hit At+J to jump into another planes cockpit and take control, but it doesn't seem to be an option for DCS.
  3. ThrOtt, You can take advantage of your 5.1 in the sim by utilizing some of your soundcards software to give it a simulated surround sound. Not true 5.1 but more atmosphere then just stereo. Being your simulating being in a helicopter with headphones on, there's really not that much real advantage of having full 5.1 sound anyways, so I wouldn't base you choice on that too much. If you buy the sim, all of us that love it would appreciate it, because we want this sim to be as successfull as possible to help ensure future developement.
  4. What I do is hold down the lock target button, and move the SHKVAL away from the target while I'm still holding the lock target button. Seems to work fine most times and I've never seen what your seeing happen.
  5. I'm having a hard time getting the parking brake to work after assigning it to a button on my hotas. Another thing, I have the brake set up on my left toe brake, but you can't set the parking brake when your holding down the brake. So your forced to let off the brake for a second while you set the parking brake. It looks as though the parking brake is just a catch on the brake lever to hold it in place when you apply brakes. But it doesn't funtion that way in the sim.
  6. How do you get boats or ships on the inlets or large rivers? I tried, even static boats, and it only lets me put them in the sea.
  7. Pfadfinder and Congo are both right. Both are saying the same thing. The pitot tube measures pressure which if forced into it from the air pressure created by a relative headwind. So if you were in a hover facing North, with a 25mph wind comming from the East, you wouldn't see any indicated air speed (IAS) registered because the wind in not being forced into the pitot tube. You IAS would increase up to 25mph as you change direction to the East in your hover. Pitot tubes are also used on boats in a simular fashion only measuring water pressure instead to give you your speed through the water. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pitot-static_system
  8. I have the same issue. Not so much that it gets real loud, but it gets quiet. Going to external and back as fixed it for me as well. I have always had a simular issue in Lock On as well and still do.
  9. I got both the "KA-50 Key Command (real).pdf" and the "KA-50 Key Command (arcade).pdf" on my install. Are you sure your not overlooking somehow? Alternatively you could do as Immermann sugested especially if you made any changes.
  10. You could try adjusting the response curve for the rudder axis in BS to make it less sensitive at center.
  11. I'm using an Audigy 2. I found the sound files that are playing when this happens. They are the Chatter.ogg files. (ie. Chatter1.ogg, chatter2.ogg etc.) I loaded up the mission where I heard this happen "Altitude" and sure enough, my other sounds get either muted or distorted. I tried going to external, and then they sound better, but still some very slight distortion to the engine sound when these chatter files play. After running that mission, I found the files in the "Blackshark/temp/mission" folder. I played the chatter.ogg files with winamp and apparently they are supposed to be poor distorted radio broadcasts. But why they are interfering with the normal ambient cockpit sounds, like the engine, I'm not sure because other radio transmissions don't do that. It sounds wierd, but I'm not loosing any sleep over it.
  12. 1) I think in most cases they will probably give you more activations if you had used them up legitimately. I thinks I read that somewheres. 2) I'm running the game on a Pent 3.2 with 2 gigs of ram and a ATI1650 vid card. I run it at 1152x864 at minimal settings except for medium textures and 4x anti aliasing. Some real busy missions make it crawl, but there's others that don't and with the mission editor, there's enough to keep me flying and having fun.
  13. Looks very nice! I've always thought about doing that myself with a used car seat. More comfortable then most desk chairs. It's nice how you can convert to a racing setup too. Heck I'm still sitting on a decade old office chair. A nicer and sturdier then most, but it's old. The sofa cusion added a bit more life to it though.
  14. I'm only seeing No videos found for “Red Flag thunder at Nellis Discovery” When I click on that link. I see the Fighter Pilot:Operation Red Flag video's there. (Which by the way is better watch in HD on Hulu) but can't find the one you mentioned.
  15. Yes I'm positive all other sounds dissaprear. That's what made it seem like it was real outside interference instead of the game at first. It was this fact in particular that made it stand out from any other radio transmissions which made me question whether something is wrong. So yes as in Feuerfalke's example, I suddenly feel rather drafty on my bottom side while this happens.
  16. Lets say you had built a cockpit with everything in it. Could you change your main displays into virtual windows? What I mean is, so they are not showing any of the cockpit. In addition, say you have a 3 monitor setup and your using a trackIR. You wouldn't want the view to pan around with your head anymore. Instead, you would disable those axises. What you would have is just side to side, up and down, and in and out. But when you move to the left, you would be able to see more to the right out of the center monitor and vise versa and the same with up and down. When you move in, the view would show more, just as you would be able to see a wider view if you were looking out of a real window. Instead of panning around to look to your right for instance, you just look at the right monitor, and shift your head around to look around between window obstructions which would also be the frames of your monitors. Hopefully I've explained this enough. But if you could do this and have it balanced right, your monitors would act just as though they were virtual windows. Here are some examples http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZBdtPz2V_vY Also, you could have just the hud modled and implemented in a way that makes it look like it's sitting closer to you then the window itself. Much like those rods in the video seem to extend beyond the monitor.
  17. I've got the same thing on some missions. I thought at first someone nearby was broadcasting on a ham radio or something and bleeding over onto my PC. The transmissions are not understandable. Then I realized it was the game. The thing is, it cuts off all other sounds like engine etc unlike a normal radio transmission in the game. In the same mission I can hear regular radio transmissions just fine and understandable without them cutting off all other sounds. I'm not sure what these transmissions or sound files are. But they don't seem to be playing right.
  18. You could record the track file playing with something like a digital camera, fraps or whatever, you could then make your own media file to play/ rewind / fast forward etc. The trk files are not media files. They are telling the game what to do, so your really seeing the game played in real time following instructions from what it gets in the trk file.
  19. The training videos your talking about are replay TRK files not really video's. You can hit pause to pause them and take notes. If an audio file starts playing, it will continue until it is finished even after you've paused it. You can hit escape any time while they are playing and take over control too, just like any replay TRK file. There is nothing to play TRK files other then the game itself as they aren't media files.
  20. I assigned it to my hat. But the spot light isn't very bright. It's dull yellow instead of bright white. I'm thinking it's a setting that might be able to be changed. I remember in Lomac there was something I changed to make the landing lights brighter but I can't remamber what it was. It would be nice also if thee was a focus adjustment on the light.
  21. After reading some of this thread http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=35444 It became clear that if you don't have a force feedback stick, you might be inclined to trim in a non conventional fashion. With the real KA-50 or a with FFB stick, when you trim, it actually holds the stick in that physical position. But with non force feedback stick, they had to implement the workaround (The hit trim, return to center in .5 secs thing). That whole transition in the workaround, can make trimming seem a little funky. But what else could they do for those without a FFB stick? I found out that holding down trim is a method to use, but in reality while holding down trim, it removes all the artificial feedback sent to the stick making it feel loose. Of course if you don't have a force feedback stick, you won't feel this. Using Flight Director, turns off the the stabilization channels (ie pitch, bank, yaw etc.) but it still keeps some dampening effect on the stick. I haven't actually read this, but I'm assuming there would be some artificial feedback sent to the stick with Flight Director mode. So it seems either of these methods are going to be the best methods to trim or change direction with a non forcefeedback stick.
  22. I've been putting it into flight director mode and leaving all the other AP channels on when ever I do any manuvering or large changes in direction. When changing direction I switch to flight director mode, go to my new heading, set trim, then turn off flight director and set trim again. It hasn't been fighting me and trying to turn back to the last heading when using flight director to change headings. I hit trim the second time after turning off flight director mostly for a finer setting. I believe I read this is the more realistic way as opposed to turning off the heading ap channel. The only one i turn off and on now is the alt hold.
  23. Is wordpad better to use then notepad? I read notepad corrupts the files. So I guess I got a few corrupt ones. I'm not familiar with N++ is says to use.
  24. Ralt+Rctrl+Rshift+[ and Ralt+Rctrl+Rshift+] to adjust the gain.
  25. It's too late. I'm already afraid to ask any questions in fear they might be in the manual and I may have missed them. Look at it this way. No matter how trivial or easy a question could have been found by someone. You should always work to help them get the answer. Why? Because it helps the community grow. If you turn someone off for whatever reason, even if it seems justified, you've still just turned that person off to a degree. Eventually they might get frustrated and give up. The more people that get into this gender, the more secure it makes it and the better it is for all of us and the future of it. What so hard to just skip over a post? Every question should be answered no matter how stupid or easy you might think it is to find. If it bothers you, just ignore it. Being unpleasant to anyone is just another stone thats thrown in which hurts the entire community and gender. I'm not pointing fingers at anyone, I'm just stating how I feel about this issue in general. I do think there should be a seperate area on this forum dedicated to just training. Where people could write up what the've learned, lessons on systems, training video's and tracks, etc. People could then ask questions. Even simple basic stuff should be covered too. Because hopefully for all of our sakes, new people will keep comming in. Anything to get them up and getting the most out of this sim and really start to enjoy it, the better. Maybe it would encourage those who want to help others with true sincerity a place to do that, and people with questions a easy place to go to ask questions without worry about ridicule.
