I attempted to purchase the controller from microhelis.de but it said I have to contact them for shipping and would not complete checkout. I have now gotten a message through to them so I'm hoping they'll respond fairly quickly! I'm a bit nervous about the lack of reviews but I did find one person online who had the controller and said good things.

At this point what I really want to buy is the Gazelle grip. I found another place with them listed but they too are not answering messages. Correction: Turns out my contact form didn't go through the first time so let's see how they do now that I did actually get a message through to them. https://shop.microhelis.de/Cyclic-Stick-EC-135/145 I'll be tempted to just order it, but they include VAT in the cart which I don't have to pay being outside the EU. Hey guys, I'm curious about the strange add on lower part on the anti-torque pedals in the Gazelle. I would assume they are just for comfort or something but the way they are attached to the standard type upper part seems odd. Anyone know anything about them? Trip

My procedure of starting the installer on his machine until it starts downloading the big amounts of data, cancelling it, replacing the DCS folder on his computer that was near empty with my complete one, and then restarting the patcher worked effortlessly.

6DOF Motion Simulator by Trip Rodriguez
TripRodriguez replied to TripRodriguez's topic in Home Cockpits
Gotta get to sleep but I overlooked this post before and want to get you some answers. I initially used a lot of angle, despite being told for VR it was unnecessary or even detrimental I had my doubts. Two things happen with too much angle, it feels exaggerated for starters once you get past the wow factor of feeling all that movement. In most conditions in an aircraft, say a hard left bank, there is most often another force acting counter to it and canceling out some of the perceived angle/acceleration. In the left bank example it would be the lift perpendicular to the wing pushing you up and left vs. gravity pulling you down and left. The other thing is that using more angle means that when a different angle needs to be applied either it takes a while to get there or you set it faster and it bucks like a rodeo bull. Tuning the motion sim takes a lot of time in general, and each different sim software is like staring from scratch. Same more or less applies to drastically different aircraft in the same sim. I was surprised though that my DCS P-51 settings felt great in the Huey. Trying to figure out how to tune out things that don't feel right without also losing things you like is a constant case of trial and error and I don't consider any of my profiles "finished" yet though the Huey one is close and the P-51 is quite good now (but I still really want a G-seat for airplanes and racing (but not for choppers). When you get it right, it just feels super natural. Getting to that point isn't always easy and honestly I haven't been able to get cues I'm super happy with in FSX/P3D compared to DCS. Your question about vibration is an interesting one. I consider it an apples and oranges comparison personally. A really good Vibe system vs. 6DOF motion sim would be a tough call honestly, if it weren't for the difference in cost. I will say that if you get just the vibe setup you will probably be forever pining to add motion. With just motion I was fairly satisfied and saw it as an incremental upgrade to add vibration but I'd rather saw off my leg than give up either now! I don't find pitch for accel/decel very effective for me in the Rift but that might be just me. I'm definitely planning to build a G-seat to address that. The plan was to make that my poor financial decision for February but now that I've gotten totally hooked on how incredible an experience DCS helicopters are with my current rig (I can't imagine much better) my priorities have changed and it will probably get bumped back a couple months while I feed my love for rotary wing. I hope some of this is helpful or informative, it's tough as this stuff is very subjective. -
@Poly_Roie I'm looking at putting together a partial dual cockpit for the Gazelle, is it possible for you go give me access somehow to detailed dimensions for the cockpit? Thanks for giving us the multi-crew experience I so desire!

[Official] SimShaker for Aviators
TripRodriguez replied to f4l0's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Another bit of encouragement to anyone considering SimShaker for Aviators and the JetSeat, it's even better for the Huey than it is for the P-51! Fantastic to feel the ship shudder as I approach RVS, and buffet a little as I enter ground effect. -
Absolutely, maximum realism is #1 for me, and maximum control is 2nd. I have to say that with the 4.5" extension, removing the big spring, and reducing the grease back to near stock on my Warthog I feel like I have excellent control of the Huey. The Gunslinger Pro (with extension and Warthog grip) is likely going to be my final solution, unless Komodo does get back to me. I have a temporary collective rigged up now, and will be building a better one this coming month with a proper hydraulic damper. Trip

Hey guys, I may regret asking this but: I'm reading the Gazelle manual and noticed they recommend Mag Brake for force feedback users and trim actuator for the non force feedback users. This implies to me that there is a possibility I should be using my force feedback setup (which I would have to hack a different grip onto for the Gazelle as I built it for WWII and has only three buttons on the grip). So my question is about the Force Feedback effects in the Heli's. I have no need for "information" from force feedback (between the 6DOF motion, SimShaker Sound, and Simshaker JetSeat I get plenty of feel for impending RVS, ground effect, etc.) but if the behavior of a force feedback stick is significantly more realistic feeling then that is something that would change my plans. I have to qualify that however: My current setup is a Warthog I setup specifically with the big spring removed, minimal grease, and a 4.5" extension. It has no centering feel at all and just enough friction that it more or less stays where I put it so pretty appropriate for the helicopters. Furthermore my 90 year old (today!) dad who has fallen in love with my simulator has offered to pick up the Gunslinger Pro when it goes on pre-order in a couple months, as that has a dry clutch setup in the gimbal designed for helicopters which should be about ideal unless force feedback has more to offer in terms of realism. So the question isn't Force Feedback vs. off the shelf flight stick, it's Force Feedback (My own QuadForce build I created for the P-51) vs. the CH Gunfighter Pro with little/no spring and dry clutches set up with the Warthog Grip. What is my QuadForce stick? I combined both the "combine two MS FFB2 into one" mod and the "Give your FFB2 Steroids mod", for a total of roughly four times the available force of a stock FFB2. This with about a 3.5" extension and a modded grip from the Gladiator Pro joystick where I eliminated the side HAT switch and concealed the pinky switch to make it feel more appropriate to the WWII warbirds. If I was to use this for the heli's I'd be adapting the Warthog grip onto it to give me enough buttons. Thanks for any info. PS: I also notice the cyclic in the Gazelle seems to have a very short travel, anyone know if this is accurate? Seems like it would be awful hard to fly with that short a stick throw but maybe that's because there are assists? Trip

@Chump Ah, I looked for that .lua in the game install directory instead of the saved games directory, thanks for giving the bread crumbs! For our test earlier tonight it worked after I did repair on his machine, but look forward to getting upgraded scenery back in for my co-pilot. Also thanks a lot for the procedure, I was still experimenting and had considered trying full startup prior to co-pilot join next so good to know that seems to do the trick!

Got it working! Latency seems fine as it should be since it's a true LAN situation which is FANTASTIC! Super excited for some side by side motion sim action! Look forward to some youtube videos and maybe some livestreams with this setup in the next few months. The synchronization issues mentioned in the multi crew manual were an issue but I should be able to avoid those mostly by following instructions and possibly staying away from cold start missions. Thanks guys! Trip

@Sryan Thanks my friend, but no dice. The integrity check box stubbornly refused to respond to clicks =( Doing "repair DCS" on his machine ATM, hopefully that fixes it.
-
Apparently Starways is triggering it, but I copied over my directory without JSGME so not sure I can easily remove it (and a shame to do so anyway). Going to see about copying my JSGME over but different install drive might be a problem anyway.
-
Ok just tried inputting my ipv4 LAN network address and now it says "requires pure client" instead of can't connect... progress? Can't seem to tick off "integrity check"

Please bear with me, I've never hosted a multiplayer match before. So I went to multiplayer, hit new server. Copied the IP/Port and sent to his computer and set a password. Tried with "public" turned off, and tried to connect to server from his computer by IP but get "connection failed, can't connect" Set to public (but with password) and did the same with same result. Also looked in the server list and it's not there. Help! I picked one of the campaign missions, on my computer screen for the server it lists pilot1 and pilot2 as available slots.

Just starting to try to make it work right now if anyone can give me step by step @Los perhaps? I'll report back if I figure it out, first attempt was no go. We have two computers, each with it's own DCS account and Gazelle registration.
-
Thanks Cibit. Hopefully that will get the job done! I'm sure you are aware Cibit, but just for clarification for anyone finding this post via google search in the future: You can use the same module serial on two machines with the same DCS game account as long as you don't run the same module simultaneously on two machines. This means if you have two computers you use to play DCS (work/home or desktop/laptop for example) you can use the same serials for both but you can't use them to have a friend play at the same time you play. In this case, I'm buying a second copy of the Gazelle module for multi-crew :pilotfly:

Hello friends! Later today a friend of mine is coming up and we plan to have some fun playing DCS together but there is a catch. His computer does not have (and never did previously) DCS installed on it at all. on my internet connection it will take about three hours to download the game on his computer. I'm hoping someone here can give me a good procedure for copying the ~30GB from my computer to his, and making it work. I've done this with other games but different procedures are often needed and for some games it just doesn't work at all. Just to clarify if anyone is confused, moving the actual files over isn't the problem, it's getting DCS installed to that machine so it will run properly. The most common way to make this work is to run the installer (very small download) on the new machine, start the game installer and let it start downloading then cancel/exit the installer. After doing that you copy the full folder (30GB or whatever) over from the old machine in the same location you told the installer to put the game and then launch the game/installer/patcher again and when it resumes the download it see's the files are all there and has to do little or nothing. I'm hoping this will work but if it doesn't I'm going to be counting on you guys to give me a solution so we don't lose 50%+ of our LAN party time to downloading. This friend lives three hours away and we only get to do this once every month or two. Thanks for any pointers! Trip

Hey guys, quick question and it's not what some of you may be thinking. What I'm after is absolutely minimal ping/latency when both PC's are side by side. I've got a 6DOF motion sim and now that I found out about Gazelle Multi-Crew I'm hoping to squeeze two seats on the sim so my friend and I can fly side by side just like the real thing! The one problem I see is that the latency from my (pilot) computer which is running the motion sim he is sitting on), out to my ISP, back to the house to his (gunner) computer might cause enough lag in the motion from his perspective to cause motion sickness. If we can multi-crew with a direct connection via my LAN the latency should be no problem. So is this possible? I'm considering buying two copies of the Gazelle module today for initial testing but $100 is a big chunk of change so I'm a little concerned about this. Thanks guys! Trip

Cloud mod? Other mods great for VR?
TripRodriguez replied to TripRodriguez's topic in Virtual Reality
The thing bothering me mostly is that when you look up at clouds and look around they spin! Might only happen when they are not super close, maybe a LOD issue):, I'd have to take a flight and pay very close attention to confirm. -

I use Ian's BFF myself. I will try to get you a loop clip, there's not much to it I think, just pitch up until the top of the loop and then a quick transition to pitch down. It feels pretty decent, especially if you look up as you pull the loop to catch the horizon. I'm planning a G-seat to improve things further =D. -
NooOooo! Apparently Rich Price (Komodo Simulations) facebook page has been taken down, and at least one person over there is surmising that Komodo is either gone or taking a break. I guess that removes me from temptation... or so I keep telling myself looking for a silver lining. Most likely then I'll be back to plan A, which was the VKB Gunslinger Pro when it comes up for pre order (dry clutch system for heli's). I would really like to make a more heli appropriate extension though.

Hey guys, the clouds do some very strange things when you look around in VR at times (especially looking upward). Are there any good cloud mods for me to install? It can be difficult in searching google to tell what mods are still up to date. Thanks, Trip PS- Any other highly recommended mods for VR? I fly helicopters, P-51, and A-10C

@Sryan You Sir, are my new favorite DCS community member! Just don't tell Chilly, I still love you Chilly! It is rare for me to get the kind of detailed answers I desire and strive to provide on internet forums. I guess most people just want the TL;DR but I'm always looking for more. Thank you for taking the time to educate me, your post has me a lot more excited for the other helicopter modules than I was... though my wallet won't appreciate that fact as much as I will! Based on coaxial RC helicopters I was afraid that the Ka-50 would be boring to fly, now I'm excited to play with it when I get a chance, as well as the gazelle and the Mi-8MTV2. Now if Komodo would just hurry up and get back to me. I read in the OP that it's easier to get the guy on Facebook but the facebook links didn't work for me. Anyone got good contact info for Komodo other than their form on the website? Trip
