Ya know, after a particularly masterful landing of a heavily damaged bird with no hope of survival, only to cheat all odds, I wouldn't mind!

My fervent desire is for the ability to set up a mobile repair point or a vehicle capable of repairing a damaged/downed module vehicle in-field. Something like repair trucks in the Arma series. Maybe a convoy of service vehicles that would be dispatched and would travel to the site of a downed player chopper and repair that chopper, at least enough to get back to base. After all, IT WOULD BE REALISTIC! At 16:50. The Mi-24 for example was specifically designed to be repairable in the field, many times on the spot where it crash-landed, as seen in the video. Or maybe even a capability for the AI Mi-26 to recover a downed chopper and bring it to base. There are few things more irritating, especially in MP, than when you get hit and make a controlled landing, instead of simply respawning, only to then realise your effort was for nothing and you will have to respawn after all!

And, looking at map of operators, it's extremely popular in "first world" as well! Plenty of users in Europe and North American, both civilian and military. So, sales don't go just to "third world", but also countries with their own production. Heck, US military has bought a large bunch of them directly from Russia (which made the Congress mad-badger angry). Granted, most of them were bought to equip the Afghani aviation, but US Army still operates it's own Mi's. Even if only for the purpose of training it's troops for a war with that chopper's originating country. EDIT: I'm probably one of the few ones who doesn't really have a long wish list. :D My desires were met with the Mi-8 (and to a much lower degree with Ka-50) and the only other chopper that I really wish for is the Hind and maybe some Soviet heavy lifter like the Mi-10/6/26 IF it is capable of recovering a downed chopper to return it to base for repair - and thus keeping the player from having to respawn. I know we'll never get a Mi-28 or Mi-35 or Ka-52 because they're classified. Oh, one of the Navy Ka's would be fun perhaps, but not much useful what with the really limited Naval aspect of the game. And I don't have any interest in any of the European birds, much less about things like Apache or Cobra. Thus, I'm pleased already. :)

I was mostly referring to the way the Nazis kept their vehicles (trucks, cars...) engines and diesel from freezing overnight during the Russian winter by keeping small fires lit under them. PS: Soviets were experimenting with helicopters even before the war IIRC and British had some American-made in their service. In fact, the Chinook looks like a copy of a Soviet helicopter of limited production of early post-war period.

So basically useless. Would be nice to instead get a radio option or something to get the ground crew to warm up the systems enough to be able to start at temps below -30°C. To make it a bit more realistic there would be a waiting period, like with repair. Hell, even if it means lighting a fire under the chopper like it was done during WWII. That would actually be useful.

Project Vodka's recruiting Mi-8 pilots.
tovivan replied to Darkwolf's topic in DCS: Mi-8MTV2 Magnificent Eight
I have a question: do you already or do you plan to have a public server? Would be nice to fly with other Soviet-inclined pilots, especially if the missions are good (the reason I abandoned 104 server is beacuse their total disregard for the Mi-8 and refusal to include it in their missions), but not with all that comes with being in a squadron. -
KO basically does nothing useful, right? I mean, it doesn't help you start engines when it's seriously cold out?

F-15 TWS mode makes frame rate drop significantly.
tovivan replied to winchesterdelta1's topic in F-15C for DCS World
I have issues with Radar on Russian birds, similar to what you have, but it's stuttering when I turn radar on than fps drop. Haven't tested with new update yet. -
Maybe crosswinds? If it's engines bring up Rctrl+Enter and see if both engine thrusts are at same level.
-
Pretty good, updated computer just recently. The thing is, the problem started after the before-last update.
-
bump. Nobody else having this problem? I found it actually occurs in other Soviet FC3 fighters as well.

I rather liked the easy navigation we had in MiG-29 when the HDD underwent rework in 1.5. Since it's obvious that it will never return in stock game, is there any way to mod the 29 to get that MFD repeater back? Thanks!
-
Basically the problem is that I manage each engine for planes like the 25, 27, 29 and 33 separately, but the levers themselves are not physically in the same position when set to exact same thrust (as set by the rctrl+enter window). The middle lever is a cm or 2 higher than the right lever at same thrust. This misalingment can be quite a nuisance. I've found people reporting the same problem when playing Flight Simulator versions and that it's possible to fix that in that game's control settings, but nothing for DCS. Does anybody have the same problem?

You forgot the S-450, the tiny rocket cruisers that took West by surprise, the PAK-FA, the Armata, Kurganets and that other series, plus there was recently a new sub-launched missile and so on.
-
Then again, do they realistically believe they will have to be engaging in air-fights or is the arming with missiles more of a statement and precaution? After all, one would think the S-450 and Moskva would be the first line of defence instead of that missile.
-
To paraphrase: something stinks in the world of DCS.
-
Yep, it is, don't worry! ;-) Don't have either of those though. Don't really fancy prop planes in this game, when I want piston action I startup Cliffs of Dover. :D

Yup, definitely getting merge skills. Literally :D Because I RAM the enemies, lol! I DID get an ER kill a few weeks back on some 1.5 server, can't remember which. Maybe DCS Israel. There were two F-15s going head-to-head with me. I was at 10 or 11km alt, going supersonic at them. They were at 5 or 6km, in formation. Launched an ER early, killed one guy, even though he tried to evade. The other guy evaded, but I had too much speed and dove past him into a valley. Because of the new AB aerodynamics I couldn't slow down fast enough to turn towards him. He got on my ass in valley and killed me. Can't remember if they launched at me or not or why they didn't shoot me down at head-on.

Not playing MP anymore, not even aerobatics/free flight, exactly because of horrible netcode and stutering. Hoped it would get fixed with 1.5, but it didn't. I think the netcode actually got worse with updates in early summer - it was then that it almost became impossible to fly in formation on public servers. Anyone still remember the horrible, warping-into-space, lags on the VA server? It wasn't that bad before May or June. I fly with a friend and it's simply not worth it, we can't even fly close together because of the stuttering and lags because we either crash or lose each other. A few weeks ago there was a lag on one of the servers we tried in our last attempt and, while we were standing on the taxiway, we warped and both ended up dead. While standing still. Gave up on public servers and now only fly on the server I host. Even with my 50 kbs upload we get no stuttering or lags. Um. *raises hand* that was actually on German TV a few years back. The German government Weather Service or Environment Agency or however it's called complained bitterly about the spraying of "chemtrails", pulverized metals, basically chaff in high atmosphere, that made their weather radars blind. That was in 2009 or so I think. Can't get the bloody Tacview to work, so deleted it and with only about 20gb of free space on my game partitions can't really record anymore. :( Really need to get another HDD, but bike - my only mode of transport - takes priority for the little spendings I can afford. x x x Talking about stuttering: anyone experiencing stuttering when using radar in FC3 planes? I've tested only 27 and 29 for now and it's pretty bad. FPS is high, but stuttering horrible. Wondering if it's something wrong with the game itself or just my mission.

Just flew a single player mission against AI and have to say the R-27 have serious problems. Won't even touch the ER's missing the flock of 4 F-5's when launched at good parameters, but will give the 2 weirdest examples. 2 ER's launched at a non-maneuvering A-10C from behind, range 500m-1km. First ER flew under the target and up into the stratosphere. 2nd flew directly at the A-10, then just before hitting it turned sharply, 90 degree to the left and headed towards ground with full speed. No deployment of chaff seen, besides the fact that it probably shouldn't even affect the missle from that range and from being DIRECTLY behind it. Wasted cannon ammo on A-10, didn't do much, so had to ram him to bring him down (I survived). Later, diving at Mach from 8k onto an F-18 going about 400km, from my left to my right, at about 2km alt. I'm locking with both Radar and IRST, he's not reacting, just flying, no flares seen. At about 10km range I fire my last ET. Except ET phoned home. The missile didn't even acquire lock, INSTEAD it continued merrily on it's way, directly straight ahead, not even caring about nice, juicy Bug calling it's name. Thus two missile that didn't even lock off the rail. Since I was completely out of any weapons, I again resorted to a ramming attack. And again survived with fully functioning plane, lol. I've honestly started resorting to RAMMING ATTACKS to bring down enemy planes because the missiles are turning out so useless. Gotta start flying the choppers again cause these fighters are bringing me to tears.

Hm, I may have hit a problem with your script, Stone. After the first wave of aircraft, the second CAP refuses to spawn (on ramp). Haven't tried GCI yet because I put Patriots on the map and thus getting close to the spawn points is just a dream. :D Will try to select spawning type as "in air", remove the patriots to see if GCI works and enable debugging. To make sure: the size of the trigger zone with the name of an airfield is also the zone in which an enemy triggers a GCI? Or is the GCI engagement range defined elsewhere?
-
Thanks. I was so focused on ME, scripts, triggers, conditions, dynamic weather and all that BS that my brain hadn't managed to disengage from the complex stuff and reboot to remember the basics. I wonder how I managed to put my shirt on correctly during that time, lol. Anyway, my little mission is working wonderfully with your new version, Stone, kudos!
-
Thanks for your reply! A not-connected question: is it possible to turn off seeing range circles of AA, radars plus units themselves in F10 when hosting a mission? I set them to "hidden" in editor, but can still see their icons on map and it's kinda annoying cause there's a lot of stuff shown.
-
Solved my problem, but will definitely keep your version written down, thanks! :)
-
Okay, I got it working! :joystick: I did it by changing the first trigger into more complex: CONTINUOUS ACTION > ALL OF GROUP IN ZONE GROUP ALIVE [OR] UNIT INSIDE ZONE GROUP ALIVE > GROUP DEACTIVATE GROUP DEACTIVATE Yup, it seems like it needs that deactivate order TWICE. One had it deactivate only once. With two actions it keeps on deactivating like a Duracell bunny. :D I still can't believe I did it! baltic_dragon, big kudos and thanks to you for pointing me in the right direction, thanks! Now off to populate the mission with senseless AI flights. :D :pilotfly:
