I agree that the weather could have a more dynamic effect on aircraft, especially for the smaller WWII birds. Even with fairly good weather you can, and will get thrown around a bit by thermals, turbulence, local pressure differentials. IMHO, this is not a 'nice to have', but should be regarded as an essential part of any proper aircraft sim.

Looking for newbie players to match in dogfighting

I'm not a complete noob, but would also like to join. I have a 120MBit connection, so I could host =) -
What is the right way to perform a barrel roll?
FoReIgNeR replied to Gloom Demon's topic in DCS World 1.x (read only)
A barrel roll is a perfect 1G roll without sideslip. The easiest method is to trim the plane for stationary horizontal flight (no horizontal acceleration or vertical speed), raise the nose slightly and start the roll (do not push back too much on the stick once in the roll), zero the sideslip by using rudder and maintain 1G by using slight stick inputs. Before you know it you'll be pouring iced tea =) -
The way to steer on the taxiway is to use your rudder and press the brake lever. The rudder pedals control the brake pressure valves to the left and right gear, the lever opens the compressed air flow. Additionally, turn the nose wheel brake off for better ground handling. Edit: sniped

Great, now the next step: to take-off and land =) Merry x-mas!

If that fails, could you post a track of one of your start-up attempts so that we can debug the procedure? I'm not behind my pc right now, otherwise I would have sent you a track =)
-
This is how I perform the start-up, it has never failed: 1) all (essential) circuit breakers to on 2) RPM governor to manual, adjust prop pitch to 12:00 (OR to auto and don't bother with pitch) 3) radiator control to the 'auf' (open) position 4) fuel cock to P1+P2, throttle to idle 5) magnetos to M1+M2 6) use the fuel choke to set the needle to between the two notches on the fuel pressure indicator (12 pumps) 7) radio the ground crew to crank the engine 8) wait for the flywheel to spin up (15 seconds) 9) open the starter cover and pull the starter handle until the engine catches 10) Happy flying

Try this one, it is the official DCS vid by Wags and is narrated:

Thank you sir

[EVALUATING / NO BUG] Acceleration to max speed
FoReIgNeR replied to JorgeIII's topic in Flight Dynamics
Drag = Cd * 1/2 * density * speed^2, with Cd being a function of AoA (Cl) in stationary flight [emoji39] -
I can shoot down more stangs, whether it's the g effect fix or training, the outcome is the same =)

In addition to the campfire we need marshmellows and the xxx spitfire modification =)

You're welcome, happy flying, she's a beauty =)

You can download the latest version of the modules through the in-game module manager. Have you tried that?
-
You are correct sir. From the manual on the MW selector: "The MW-B4 Selector on the left-hand side of the cockpit is used to set the MW 50 tank status. Please note that incorrectly setting this switch can have catastrophic results, by either feeding the water-methanol mixture into the fuel lines, or spraying aviation fuel into the supercharger." Edit: The handle close to the tail wheel lock/unlock selects either MW50 or B4. The switch on the front dash enables the MW50 supercharger (right is on, left is off). From the manual on MW50 use at altitude: "At sea level, the engine runs at over 1800 hp with MW-50 enabled, compared to 1430 hp with the MW-50 off. While the primary boost-increasing effects deteriorate with altitude, the secondary cooling effects are still noticeable. The MW-50 system can therefore be used to cool down the engine at all altitudes in an event of an emergency. The boost provided by the MW-50 begins to decrease in power at altitudes above 6,000 meters." Thus you can use MW50 above 6000m to cool the engine, but the supercharger boost will be less effective.

By trusting your groundcrew. There is no way in game to check what's in the tank. The default in DCS is MW-50, but you can change this to fuel in the loadout screen in the mission editor. I'm sure this is how it is for the D9, but I'm not behind my PC, so can't check for the K4. Is anyone able to verify this?
-
Agree, the default cockpit and external sound volumes (which sound is heard over whichother sound) should be reworked. Diveplanes sound mods do a good job in this respect though [emoji106]
-
The MW-50 tank can be loaded with either methanol-water or normal fuel (at least for the D9, not 100% sure about the K4). If there is MW50 in the tank and you switch its operational mode to 'fuel' (in the D9 it's a red handle on your left), you flood the fuel lines with MW50 (bad idea). Vice versa, if there is fuel in the tank and you set the mode to MW50, you inject more fuel to to mixture which is also not a good idea. Both will kill your engine.

There are two main reasons why your engine stalls: 1) did you set the rpm governor to auto? If you leave it in manual without changing the set RPM, your engine will over-rev causing it to seize. If you do keep it in manual, ensure your RPM stays below 3000. 2) did you set the radiator to auto (or 'auf', open)? Failing to do this will overheat your engine causing it to seize.

My deadstick landing of the day: I really needed to down this guy because he put some .50 cal into my immaculate K4, but unfortunately things got a bit cosy... Dead prop, gear failed to extend (Bosch horn is whining), emergency gear lever (yay, it extended) and dead stick landing. All in a days work =)
-
Great minds think alike =)
-
Im really happy about the upcoming changes in the .14 update =) especially the 'extended landing gear brings the nose heavy effect'. Lower value of Cm_alpha0 in landing config will give us more trim authority when taking of and landing!

Wow, some serious updates await, Yay!

Yesterday I was able to download a hotfix through the updater. I guess that jcomm is referring to that.
