  1. I don't know if this has been requested before, but I would love to see separate tabs on the kneeboard! As it is now we often have to scroll though loads of pages to get to that one page of interest. My suggestion would be to add either fixed or user configurable tabs such as: - VFR map - aircraft procedures (normal and emergency) - aerodrome charts - navigation aides - threat charts (encyclopedia?) - etc. When the kneeboard is made interactive as I propose, this would allow us to better organize the info and to use it in a much more effective way. Is there any info whether the kneeboard will change in DCS 2.0?
  2. This is what I like so much about the sim! I consider myself to be a half-decent Hog pilot with lots of hours into it, and hey! I just learnt something new =)
  3. When not taking compressibility in to account, the force on the control surfaces is proportional to IAS (pressure related) and not to TAS (speed relative to MSL)... I guess the 500kph is in IAS as old warbirds have no indication of TAS nor groundspeed (=TAS + wind) [EDIT] For clarification: ground speed (GS): the speed of the aircraft relative to the ground -> what you would see on your moving map in all weather conditions true air speed (TAS): the speed of the aircraft relative to the `local' air (ground speed - wind) -> what you would see on your moving map without any wind indicated air speed (IAS): the speed of the aircraft as measured by the pitot-static tubes (pressure differential between static and dynamic air pressure) -> related to the local air density and temperature calibrated airspeed (CAS): indicated airspeed corrected for instrument measurement errors (such as aerodynamic flow interaction etc.) -> what is shown to the pilot by the speed gauge CAS is shown to the pilot because (roughly said) the value of the stall speed of the aircraft stays the same at all altitudes. However, this value says nothing about how fast you are actually going relative to the ground! [EDIT 2] My point being, Pilum is right by saying that the seize in that other sim is incorrect if it really works as he describes, Solty is right by saying that the stiffness occurs at a certain CAS value =)
  4. Finishing off a Pony in a battle damaged Dora
  5. Love it, it's my default now! thanks mainstay!
  6. Wow, you're parents must have had a hard time calming you down before Christmas... But seriously, it's almost here, we have --at most-- a couple more weeks to go. OT: The first impressions look amazing, I'm astounded by the level of detail (e.g., the 3D model and skins, the flashlight, variable weapon control panels) and can't wait to get my hands on this sim. Looking forward to a very steep learning curve =) Great to see this long anticipated bird finally being released soon =)
  7. Great vid! Don't you just love the DoW server =) Couldn't help noticing that I also got a kill at 2:00 :music_whistling:
  8. Great to hear Cobra! Will those videos also include any cold start-up / taxi / take-off / landing and system tutorials? And is there a digital manual out anywhere yet? Can't wait to get acquainted with this lovely girl =)
  9. Haha, that was a fun packed stream of epic fails =)
  10. MP: For me the multiplayer dogfights and other multiplayer experiences really add to the enjoyment of DCS. Flying with and against human pilots instead of the AI adds to the realism, especially when in a voice chat. It's also more challenging because you can't exploit the somewhat buggy AI, there it all comes down to pilot skill =) The people in the MP community are usually also very eager to share tips and their experience, which will definitely help you to become an even better pilot overall. Servers: there are a couple of good WWII dogfight servers out there, the Dogs of War - DoW server being the most popular (FW-190 Dora's vs P-51 Ponies).
  11. As with everything practice makes perfect. After wasting about 10% of the original production number of Dora's (650 ~ 700) I can manage to take-off and land now safely... most of the time =) I can't imagine what a scary, adrenaline ridden experience the first flight in a FW-190 or BF-109 must have been for the real luftwaffe pilots! Things can go very wrong very fast!
  12. This reminds me of a personal experience =) Flight plan EBAW - EGFF, cleared FL120 in an unpressurized aircraft (it was a twin engine Piper Seneca). ATC: turn right heading x+45 degrees. Action: x-45 degrees. Some time later: ATC: turn *!RIGHT!* 45 degrees. Our response: London center, request FL80 =) The thing is, you don't really notice when hypoxia sets in... You will feel a bit more elated than usual, see things in a more `dreamy' state, but you won't realize it at that moment yourself...
  13. Something which really helps me with take-off: (saitek pro flight) rudder curvature to +40 =)
  14. I know how you feel bro... The F-86F was released on the day I went away for holidays. I will be going away again next Saturday for a week and I can see where this is going... Aaaargh! These luxury problems, I can't take it anymore! Guess I'll have to hone my Sabre and Pony skills this week :pilotfly:
  15. Here ya go:
  16. FYI: my video is also made with an 'out of the box' install. Anyone know the cause of this discrepancy?
  17. For the ones who can't fly her right now: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fw1K4mBfg7s I made a short (uncut) video of one of my first startup, take-off and intercept =) Some notes: * Still trying to figure out how nosewheel steering works * Yes, I F-10'ed once, am I a cheater now?! =) * And yes, the Mig went down in the end :p
  18. I just put the F-86F through it's first paces and I must say I'm really surprised with the quality of the module =) I did a cold start, take-off, landing and I shot some bogeys down. Just one question about the A-4 Bomb-Rocket-Sight: Is it supposed to be so damn jittery when a target (or the ground) is outside of a valid tracking range? The range indicator jitters at around 2400 ft/ like crazy until a target is closer than say 1500 ft. Anyway, I'm off to do some more flying *big smile* =D EDIT: And why isn't there a key bind for the mechanical caging lever?! Did I miss it? It's a bit annoying to have to manually click on the thing with the mouse when entering the AO.
  19. There's a pay from existing account (or something similar) checkbox at they payment checkout screen. $35.00 is really a bargain!
  20. Wait what?! No training missions? *** randomly bashes buttons to get the bird in the air ***
  21. Woohoo! I get to play it before my holidays =) Germany, watch out, you will have one sleep deprived driver tomorrow crossing your country from NL to AT =)
  22. But damn you anyway SithSpawn! =)
  23. In that case, I will overheat a couple of Belsimtek Hueys tonight as revenge! Oh wait... :p
