DCS: Spitfire L.F. Mk IX - Blood, Toil, Tears & Sweat
Sulaco replied to Eight Ball's topic in Screenshots and Videos
Holy hell. Excellent job. -
Not your fault Ranger, this is an issue on ED's end, don't mistake the direction of our frustrations, it's ED we're angry at, not you. Cold starts are part of what makes DCS special, it would be a shame to lose them but if you can start the players aircraft COLD and the rest of Hawg HOT I would be ok with that, not sure how others would feel. Unfortunately it would only be a temporary fix to a larger problem that's completely out of your hands. I'm sure you're as frustrated as we are, if not more.

Looks like the asking price was $6,000,000 each. Wow... Some neat info I'm just copy pasting from a diff website on the sale of these aircraft: Since the hard points have been removed, does that mean the option to mount external fuel drop-tanks has also been eliminated? With the hard points removed there is no accommodation for extended range drop tanks. Why the restriction on flying outside the US? I’m guessing that this is because the planes in and of themselves are classified as weapons and export rules apply? They’re not restricted from flying outside the US, they’re restricted from being sold to any non US buyers – for obvious export reasons. Any idea what the requirements are for a pilot wanting to fly these? As for the training required to operate them, the guys at Pride indicated that you’d have to have a minimum of 1000 hours PIC and experience in high G conditions. They said that anyone who had been flying something like the L-39 would easily be able to transition into the Flanker. There is no type rating required to go faster than the speed of sound, you would have to go out into international waters. There is apparently a restriction on Mach if you have a US Pilot Certificate unless you receive special permission from the FAA – not a type rating, but “special permission”. I assume that if you did go faster than sound over international waters and didn’t have special permission, you would be violated when you got back into US airspace.

After putting far too many hours into IL-2 Battle of Stalingrad/Moscow I can say that the JU87's survivability online will come down to a few factors: 1) map/mission design. A lot of the online missions in IL-2 are built around a long frontline with multiple active fields on either side and a variety of mixed targets running up and down the front. If DCS mission designers follow this approach, bomber pilots should be able to hit targets before the enemy can find them. 2) Tail gunner AI. No idea how well the AI will shoot from this thing, in IL-2 the tailgunners are a mixed bag of laser accurate and completely blind. You never know what you'll end up with. 3) Player controlled tail gunner positions. Not sure if this will be a thing or not but if it is it would be fantastic and depending on the gunner, a huge help. I really think that the mission makers are going to have their hands full but my fingers are crossed we get something in a similar nature to CloD/IL-2 style missions. That will go a long way in ensuring anyone, regardless of which role they want to fly will have a good time playing.

[REPORTED] Spitfire propeller with motion smoothing/ASW
Sulaco replied to Reflected's topic in Bugs and Problems
This mod is fantastic by the way, total game changer. Thanks so much for putting in the effort! -
Gotta say I'm surprised at how many people recommended the F-5, I own both and don't get me wrong I enjoy flying them both but the MiG-21 is in a league of its own. I'm not going to argue which is the better performing aircraft but from a content and character standpoint the MiG absolutely has the F-5 beat. There are multiple campaigns available, it has far more options available when it comes to armament and it's just a LOT more interesting to fly. The F-5, sorry to say it, is pretty run of the mill, I wouldn't go so far to say it's boring but compared to the MiG... It just doesn't stack up. Hell, even landing and taking off in the MiG is exciting, the thing feels like a damn rocket ship. I know Maple Flags did a payware campaign for the Tiger (I've flown it) and it basically amounts to Street Fighter in the air. I would recommend you pass on the F-5 for now, go with the MiG-21 and in the future pick up the Tiger when there are more interesting paces to run it through.

This. It has to be this..

Hi unpilot, You can absolutely have both running at the same time, there are actually quite a few of us who bounce back and forth between the two on a regular basis. There are some pretty solid stock training missions for the A10C in 1.5 that should work well in getting you off the ground. I also recommend Bunyap's videos on youtube, he does a good series called "On The Range" that is super helpful. Check out Chuck Owls excellent guide as well, it's a pdf that breaks the manual down to the important bits (it's actually much more than that but simple explanation), Chuck Owl's work is fantastic. Good luck!

yup, got it on 3 and 4, mission 4 parking spot is wrong as well, checked in editor and it's all messed up. Still flyable though, not game breaking.

*I'm an idiot, figured it out... sorry for wasting forum space. Move along, nothing to see here. I've used quite a few custom liveries over the years (with jsgme) but can't for the life of me figure out how to get the custom skins for the spit to work. There's no Spitfire folder in DCS World/Bazar/Liveries so I created one called SpitfireLFMkIX but that doesn't seem to do the trick. Any suggestions?

I've had the F-5 forever but only just decided to fly it for the first time tonight, must have spent almost an hour trying to figure out what I was doing wrong in the first tutorial until I found this thread.... Too funny. Nice work getting a hot fix out this fast ED o7

Any chance of a fresh link for the 3 skin packs? The current links are giving me a 404 error. Sorry if that's already been asked/answered, I just wasn't able to find any info, thanks guys!

I used the original file as I wasn't able to re-save the mission in the campaign file. I'm sorry it didn't work for you, I hope it wasn't just luck on my part. My fingers are crossed that you get it working and you're able to finish the campaign.

I just found a solution and was able to complete the mission: 1) Immediately upon mission start, contact ATC and request startup 2) As soon as 1-1 tells you "let me know when you're ready to taxi", ignore your own startup and tell him you're ready to taxi (even though you aren't) 3) Hit F2 twice so you can get a look at his aircraft to confirm he is taxiing without you 4) Go through your own startup procedure, take your time, no rush 5) taxi out, you'll find 1-1 unable to takeoff at the base of the runway 6) request takeoff clearance from ATC yourself, this will cause 1-1 to get clearance as well and initiate his takeoff. 7)REJOICE! Hope that helps!

Easy day one buy here Apache, can't wait. My fingers are crossed that you keep it up post release with new campaigns for other aircraft that are in need of content - 190/109 perhaps? Anyway, I really think you're doing a stand up thing here - DCS is a great platform but it lacks in the story driven, single player content, glad you're here to contribute. Hats off ;)

Can't wait for this, sounds really unique and creative, a solid 86/15 campaign is so overdue!

Caucasus Map Texture DLC by Starway
Sulaco replied to Starway's topic in Utility/Program Mods for DCS World
I've got to imagine that when Starway puts up the website and goes live for release, ED will promote it somehow either through a newsletter or front page banner. It sounds like ED was really bummed when they couldn't help Starway out with a full release so I'm guessing they'll help him promote it in any way they can. Keep in mind, this is all just rose coloured, positive guesswork on my behalf - I'm just trying to keep a positive attitude as I'm looking forward to the content and the last thing Starway needs is the community thinking it will fail. -

Just estimating based on how much support he's garnered from the community and devs already (just look at this thread). I'll be happily donating $30 if there's an option for that and so will the guys I fly with. After the massive amount of content Starway has given this community I have faith that the community will give back, once again this thread is a good indicator of that. If he ends up setting a minimum donation of $10-$15 along with the option to donate as much as you want I have no doubt he'll blow past his numbers in no time. The math adds up. -

If he sets the minimum donation at $10-$15 he'll blow past the $3000 mark in the same day he puts it up, easy. Granted, the longer it takes to get the donation button up the less money he'll make due to community support fizzling out, right now it's at a peak and he stands to gain the most return on his time and work. -

It shouldn't go slow, $2000-$3000 is peanuts, I just hope Starway isn't shooting himself in the foot with this, I feel like he would make a lot more if he just sold it on a per customer basis. Either way I'm sure Starway has thought long and hard about the pros and cons of all of this and I wish him all the luck in the world! -

If they released it as a new map it would act as a new map and thus would only support content created specifically for it, you also wouldn't be able to enjoy it with other players unless they owned the map as well. -

Been keeping an eye on this one, as soon as it's up for grabs I'll be coughing up the dough. Supporting Starway is the least any of us can do after all of the great content he's given the community. I encourage everyone to do the same, best of luck Starway!
