  1. I'm not lacking information (although you're pointing towards good and valuable info!). I'm still progressing with situational awareness. I would recommend every beginner to read info about jammers, but leave them in the depot until you are able to build up a solid situational awareness. When I was fresh on the 27 i would simply forget I got jammers on, or even earlier didnt even know where the indicator light for the jammers was (didn't even know if they were on or not). They are just another layer of complexity, while you still learn how to use radar. I think I would be ready enough now to employ jammers, but after all I'm currently having a lot more fun leaving them at home and employ tactics that don't rely on jamming but benefit from the two extra 73s. Aerial Combat is just such a complex thing that takes time to learn, and Jammers are not a system you have to master first. Of course knowing what they are and what they are not is important. That's why I'm following this thread with great interest, even if I don't employ jammers at all. I also think I am intelligent enough to distinguish between imperial amraam pilots and metric archer pilots, not stating the plane still ruins the readability of the thread, or less drastically put, stating the plane would improve the readability with reasonably little effort.
  2. Guys I've been reading this thread with very high interest. May I ask you that you please state which plane you are talking about!? Since I haven't flown with most of you, I got no idea which plance you fly, and if one is talking about F15 and one about Su27 it is unnecessarily hard to keep track of what you are talking about. THANK YOU! I personally opt for the R73, because i still got a lot to learn before I introduce jammers, and I dislike using them in a useless way without even knowing.
  3. Take your time razbam, i'm traveling another week. Really look forward flying it when I get home ;)
  4. Callsign: TAW_DEADBEEF Aircraft: SU27 Nationality: Austria Location: Austria Availabilty: Confirmed for both dates Ruleset: Confirmed read and understood
  5. I can't send 73's in gunmode ;) But yes, you're correct!
  6. I noticed in Nevada that everytime I exit the F10 menu there is only a basic texture on the Terrain, and it takes like 5 seconds till all the detailed textures are reloaded again. This was not the case on 1.5.1
  7. Since I've only been on the 27 for a couple of months, i waited with posting this. I've just had a sortie that made me very certain about my observation. Sometimes switching on the Radar while having a lock on IRST will incorrectly show a friendly as Enemy (A in the HUD instead of AFR). I've had it a couple of times since the last 1.5 Update, but always accounted it to user error (Teamkills are really embarassing). Right now I've been flying a sortie on Nevada, I only had friendlies around which I confirmed on the Radar. Then a red F15 popped up on my 12 from below within gunrange, I EO-locked it, switched on radar and my Jaw dropped because the A stood in place missing the FR. I switched off Radar off and on again to confirm, still a solid A. So I foxed him. Then was still very unsure why he was enemy, switched on radar again and see, theres the missing FR, just after I foxed, I just killed a friendly from behind. Earlier today I got teamkilled by another red Su27 who as well claimed that he was 100% sure he used Radar to check and it said I'm hostile. I don't know if this is another realism thing (if it is, be so kind and let us know) or as I suspect a bug.
  8. Hi guys! I've just been wondering. Usually i deploy chaff as I'm engaged kinda permantly. I see that my 27ERs are frequently going for chaff. But in tacview review i notice that i rarely see a 120 going for my chaff. This make me wonder, am I doing right? So whats the most effective way of deploying it? at a certain point in a maneuver? compressed in a huge bunch at once and then dont chaff for a while, or just keep chaffing every second? thanks! deadbeef
  9. The scoreboard does not work after you dis- and reconnect to a server. If you restart the game between server changes the scoreboard works fine.
  10. very interesting interview, thanks a lot! What I'm missing is links. You mention his videos?
  11. See, this is why I tried to keep it simple in the first place ;)
  12. That is not quite 100% accurate. I did not describe this in the first answer on purpose, because the first step is understanding what trim is and I wanted to keep the thread on topic. Since you took it further, I'm trying to clarify. Having trim-tabs or not does not affect if the stick moves or not. The Stick in the A10C moves because you don't have a force feedback stick, not because there are no trim-tabs. Lets get some facts straight about how real aircrafts work - there is no real "center position" like on our non-FFB-sticks in a real aircraft - just accept this for now please. - If you fly fast your stick will be forward, if you fly slow your stick will be aft while holding altitude. - This is because the horizontal stabilizer will generate more lift at high speeds, and less at slow speeds. if you do not trim the aircraft, you will almost always have a force on your stick you have to counter in order to keep altitude (unless you fly at a certain speed in a certain altitude with a certain center of gravity at a certain temperature). Since this would be very uncomfortable to fly, aircrafts have a trim system. This systems job is to remove the forces from the stick. The simplest form to do so is trim-tabs, which are found on the control surfaces (a control surface on the control surface if you like). If you wish to trim up you move the trim tab down, which will generate a counter-force that removes the force from your stick. The stick itself will NOT move, but you will not need to apply a force to hold it in position. The same principle applies with every other trim system, no matter if it is trim-tabs, stabilizers or fly-by-wire systems. They all remove the force from the stick, they do not move the stick itself. So here comes the tricky part of not having a force feedback joystick in a simulator. Since we cannot adjust the center position on spring-centered joysticks, we have to overcome this with moving the stick. So if you would want to trim a fast flying aircraft forward, you have to move the stick backward while pressing the forward-trim button. Ideally while doing this the stick in the virtual cockpit would not move (if done in a clean fashion). Like already explained above, if you have a force feedback stick you dont have to move the stick at all while trimming, but you will feel the force become less, until its gone. If you then keep trimming the force would be applied on the opposite direction.
  13. Santi I understand your interest in sources, but I understand why he does not feel like providing any. That wozld feel like doing university homework, as this is indeed RF basics and physics you cant overcome by multimillion $ research. It was also very well discussed in the su27 missiles thread, why RF Simulations are not more complex than rather simple LOS calculations in DCS.
  14. no, it is setting the trim. this is a separate system of your aircraft and has nothing to do with flaps or nosewheel steering. I'll try to explain the trim system in a simple way. You will use the trim system in flight to have your aircraft fly straight with your stick centered. If you do not trim you will have to keep your stick a little bit forward if you fly fast, and a little bit aft if you fly slow. so if you fly fast you will have to trim forward to have you stick centered, if you fly slow you will have to trim it back. This is a very basic flying system that every aircraft has.
  15. Seems Chizh is one of the most famous persons in dcs now ...
  16. Hoped it was fixed in the 1.5.1, unfortunately it's still there. The enroute page with the waypoint simply does not appear after respawn. Been there in 1.5.0, still there in 1.5.1 also during rearm, empty weapon bays have a all-black graphic instead of nothing on the graphical display sind 1.5.1
  17. did the last update bring any improvements?
  18. ahh too bad, thats the only two weekends I cannot fly at all :(
  19. I so cannot wait for this chopper! And I'm even more looking forward to the Bo105!
  20. Wow! Now I'm stunned! :O thank you very much! :D
  21. did the MVP voting for Round 3 already pass? Where is it being held?
  22. Yeah Reaper was crushing it. I was always follow him behind being amazed how he sees everything when he screams into TS "F15 F15 HIDE HIDE HIDE". Outstanding Situational awareness, and once at work he is unstoppable. I still felt like a hero dropping my troops which I brought in his shadow after he finished his work :D
  23. Hey Guys! We had an awesome time yesterday night, fighting for Tiblisi. Unfortunately we ran into a couple of bug problems. The main issue was on our initial attach, we got Vaziani rather quick, and wanted it to use as a base for refuel and rearm. Unfortunately Vaziani, although captured, did NOT REPAIR for the whole 3hrs, and we could not refuel/rearm. I don't know why that was, we suspect a bug. Maybe someone can have a look at it?
  24. Hey Greg! I got some questions regarding helicoters and troops too: - whats the minimum distance to a farp/airport/city you have to drop troops? - are you sure the no-drop-radius is 10km? i think in round 3 it was 15km/8nm from what I found out in testing. - one more suggestion for motivating chopper pilots, it would be really really cool to have a leaderboard of chopper-pilots in terms of troops dropped and captured areas. Especially the huey but also the Mi8 are very very limited in fighting capabilities and are shot down really easily, but at the same time they have to travel the longest distance at minimum speed. They are vital for mission progress, but they do not get much recognition.
