  1. Phil Style easily has the best review of this aircraft up to date. He did mention in the video he may compare the performance to other aircraft in a later video. I'd really like to see this, especially up at 25,000ft.
  2. I find myself unable to fly the Dora without eventually destroying the engine, despite being extremely conservative. Even the slightest touch of MW-50 destroys my engine within 2-3 minutes despite decent cool. I've even found myself destroying my engine in level flight with good cooling. I've only truly been shot down once but I've destroyed my engine countless times and each of those times I've tried to be more conservative on my engine management than the other. From my knowledge MW-50 provides cooling so I should in theory be better off flying with it than without it. Also on top of that I've got 40 minutes worth of MW-50 and I'm permitted to use MW-50 in 10 minutes intervals. So this engine is supposedly capable of handling 40 minutes worth of maximum power per sortie and I'm sure it was capable of doing this for multiple sorties, not just one. However this is not the case for me at least. Also, yes I warm up my engine before take off. Someone please enlighten me, because I am royally confused.
  3. If we are getting a Fw-190A8 does that mean we are getting a Bf-109G-14?
  4. Hah, just saw this on the facebook page.
  5. D-22's top speed was with wing racks. So add 15mph at all ALT.
  6. Slow down there, lol. The fact that we even have a P-47 is a blessing.
  7. Imagines aren't anything new though. They are just rendered in the game engine. These exact photos were released years ago. At least its a sign the P-47 is actually coming. :)
  8. How is it possible to complete the P-47 if all of the documents have been disposed of? What are the means to complete the P-47? How is time an answer if from what we know there is nothing to work with? The only solution I can think of is to put a real P-47 in a wind tunnel, but when will this happen and is that even the plan? What exactly does time mean? I'm not angry I'm just confused. Anyways, a P-38L would be nice. More realistically a Bf-109G and Fw-190A would be great.
  9. From a facebook post on the P-47 facebook page "I had the opportunity to interview Col. Robert S. Johnson back in 1988. I recently found the yellowed written material in my garage and I'll be typing it out in digital form to be posted here." ROBERT S. JOHNSON INTERVIEW
  10. I stand corrected. I was just judging from my anecdotal experience. I usually fly whatever team has the least amount of players and I find myself flying the P-51 over the Fw-190 quite a bit. Crumpp wanted to challenge me to after I said I'm not afraid of P-51s in my D9. I don't know why people underestimate the Fw-190 all the time. You may not like dog fighting me because I refuse to play to the enemies advantages. My aim is absolute trash so I wouldn't be surprised if I ran out of ammo before I even hit you. In BOS its the same story I just spiral climb away from yaks and they consistently and stubbornly stall out before I do. Then its a matter if I can even hit the target xD.
  11. There's nothing rare or dreamy about flying a P-51 using 150 fuel against a Fw-190A8. There isn't anything historically accurate about an entire team only consisting of D9s and K4s. Lets admit it this game isn't historically accurate from the choice of map to the choice of planes. But you know what? That's okay. I think its interesting that they choose the D9 and K4 over the A8 and G-14. Whats not interesting is a team full of bare bone P-51s and soon to be P-47s. My "dream" is to see a Big Week campaign. P-38Js, P-47 razor backs, early P-51 with -3 engines against Fw-190A8s and Bf-109G-6s. An extremely balanced scenario while also being historically accurate. So believe me I'm not calling for a P-47M to fight against a Bf-109G-6 without MW50, lol. The way I view it is this is the Luftwaffe in the best case scenario without going too over the top by adding Ta-152H-1s and D-13s. So why not expect the same from the allies? Btw, whats you're point? Its okay to add whatever aircraft if the enemy can't tell the difference? Is this not whats happening in game right now? There's a reason why there are more K4s than P-51s, Fw-190s and Spitfires. Flying against the P-51 isn't that difficult if you take the Fw-190 in the vertical. IIRC the P-47M's reliability issues were due to poor shipping of engines. P-47D was running at 70"Hg while the P-47M was at 72"Hg with a CH-5 turbo allowing it to have a higher critical alt. The difference between 2"Hg in manifold pressure wouldn't suddenly plague a plane with countless reliability issues. 1. Depending on where you're looking on the D9 and K4 timeline you could have anywhere from 4 to 1 Fighter Group(s) using P-47s in the 8th air force. 2. I can't speak for the Spitfire but what would the difference be if an entire team was flying 25lb+ Spitfires against a team only consisting of D9s and K4s? 3. I highly doubt you'd have a player base at that point, lol. You've got to draw the line of realism somewhere so you have predictability of what to expect in a simulator. Frankly DCS has no line or at least a very vague one. This is why a big week campaign would be ideal since the Luftwaffe was still very much prevalent :smartass:
  12. Sorry, are you going to suggest German planes were built to the same quality as their previous variants in 1943?. Nope, I never said the K4 and D9 were rare. What I said was the K4 and D9 are the best German planes available by late 1944 - early 1945. So why not use the same logic for the allies? Now that you've mentioned it at bodenplatte only 86 K4s and 157 D9s were serviceable. What we have in game is a P-47M and Spitfire XIV vs Bf-109G-14 and Fw-190A8. If you can't see the equivalence between this and what's in the game then I can't help you. Try rereading my reply. If you had read it, you wouldn't have repeated yourself on I point I've already addressed. I'm not calling for the removal of MW50 on German aircraft. Who'd want to fly without a necessary addition that dramatically changes how your plane performance? <- Get what I'm saying now?
  13. That doesn't make any sense. You're confused of what the actually baseline for the plane set should've been. The reality is the Spitfire IX, P-51 and P-47 should be fighting poorly constructed Fw-190A8s and Bf-109G-14s while using 150 grade fuel(I can't fully speak for the IX). <- This should've been the roster from the start if you're calling for historical accuracy. So why the hell are they using 130 grade fuel against top of the line Doras and Kurfurst. Also the rare as hell Me-262. The P-51 and P-47 should get their righteous historical boost settings. This wouldn't be a matter of balance of gameplay its a fact they were running on higher boost settings than portrayed in game. Too suggest any kind of historical accuracy would be to remove the D9 and K4. However, Its quite clear DCS is interesting in historical accuracy. They are going for the top of the line aircraft of the Germans while for some reason only the lowest grade work horses for the allies. So they should follow through with the same logic they used with the Axis. That would mean the addition of the Spitfire XIV, P-47M and P-51 with all the bells and whistles including 150 grade fuel. However this isn't going to happen because of time constraints so at the absolute bear minimum the allies should have 150 grade fuel.
  14. Engage MW-50 and spiral climb away from a Mustang with ease. Try to stay between 400-450kph when fighting a Mustang. Any slower, you'll be out maneuvered and any faster the Mustangs superior high speed control and zoom will come into play. You can still combat a spitfire at equal energy. Just don't turn fight a Spitfire. Simply keep distance by engaging MW-50 and keep your speed above 400kph. You don't necessarily need to zoom back to altitude after you strike. You can just gain separation in level flight as your 50kph faster at all altitudes below 6000m A real nasty trick that applies to the Mustang and Spitfire is to yank the stick at high speed if their on your 6. Due to ze superior German engineering Dora can't break like feeble allied fighterz. So if the allied pilot falls for the bait they'll snap their wings off lol.
  15. Yeah, I just took a look after reading this. I'm going to check it out right now too in game. Thanks for sharing. Yeah we're definitely moving in that direction, but I feel DCS is actually stepping more in line with reality The tracers and bullet streaks are quite reminiscent to the youtube video I posted below. Where as IL2 looks like 6 laser cannons from the X-Wing and there are now streaks of smoke. DCS is always just a matter of time. :P. This is a pretty good video showing the sparks we all desire. Visual gore is nearly as important as a proper damage model. How am I supposed to know if I've damaged my target or even hit for that matter if there are no visual effects?
  16. https://youtu.be/nubn_QpkHnI?t=819 DCS please make this happen <3. P-47 looks so good in formation flight. Notice the AOA the P-47 has to keep to fly with Corsair.
  17. There still isn't any sparks of magnesium burning when you hit an aircraft. :/. Also you mentioned the tracers still aren't prominent enough too. My gunnery skills are rather poor and it doesn't help if I have no indication of hitting my target. However I can now one pass a Bf-109 at 100-200m, anything beyond that the .50 cals become peashooters. The AI have also changed, the friendly P-51 in the instant action dogfight now announces every time he's been hit, lol. The Bf-109 now breaks off if I'm targeting him while he's targeting my friend. I think they changed the sound effects for the Bf-109 too. I had made a head-on pass with a Bf-109 and the 30mm sounded like pops of thunder flying pass my canopy. Terrifying sound to complement the terrific firepower of the Bf-109.
  18. right in the feels.
  19. I can upload some photos of the P-47 from 2014 for you guys.
  20. They did say if there is nothing new to show then there is nothing to show. The actual model of the P-47 should be complete. We have just yet to see the model being render in the EDGE. Visually there is nothing to show about a flight model being made. So they really do have nothing to show. Also if they were to explain to us what they were doing step by step that'd only lead to criticism on how they perform they work. Lose-lose situation.
  21. You're talking about a K4. The same tactics do apply but if you make one mistake in the P-47 you're dead. Great banter guys, lol.
  22. Too big to be a fighter. Exactly, the irony is despite the P-47's size and short comings it still kicked ass. The P-47 should be called for what it was built to do.
  23. I always thought of it as the Jug being way too big, but still made for an excellent fighter. The Ideal fighter is nibble and small, but Republic said **** that ;). Imagine this freight train spiral climbing away from you at 30,000ft.
