  1. Too big to be a fighter. Exactly, the irony is despite the P-47's size and short comings it still kicked ass. The P-47 should be called for what it was built to do.
  2. I always thought of it as the Jug being way too big, but still made for an excellent fighter. The Ideal fighter is nibble and small, but Republic said **** that ;). Imagine this freight train spiral climbing away from you at 30,000ft.
  3. Easily my favourite P-47 video. You can even see my comment lol.
  4. Source on effectiveness of P-51's radiator compared to Spitfire? Yes British mustang please, lol.
  5. I think BuzzU is just a bit irritated on the lack of the official news regarding the P-47 development. All I want is the current model to set as my wallpaper :P. If we need more wind tunnel data on the P-47 for its completion wouldn't it have been found by now? So what is ED doing to compensate for the lack of wind tunnel data?
  6. Razorback is definitely more bad ass looking. IMO the late P-47 series are better looking. Dorsal fin, permanent pylons and the review mirror on top of the canopy(field modification).
  7. That would've been a question if DCS WWII: Europe 1944 was still an idea. Anyways according to Sithspawn the P-47 is coming its just going to take a bit longer than the other modules. I'm going to ask some people in the P-47 facebook group for wind tunnel testing.
  8. No way in hell. I want the best possible P-47 flight model, there are other games I could settle for if I wanted FC3 quailty. The 3D model was pretty much already complete during the kickstarter phase. Its good to see that ED has standards.
  9. You'd think the country that was unscathed by the war would have a redundancy of documentation on their own aircraft.
  10. lol. :cheer3nc: The P-47's turbo may be susceptible to fire due to the extreme temperatures.
  11. Hey can you add the P-47D-30 :). By the way, I think you accidentally added the Spitfire Mk. XIV instead of the Mk. IX. There is 5 blade prop, instead of a 3 blade prop. The tail of your spitfire is also off from a Spitfire Mk. IX. Edit: Just realized that there was a second page with people already mentioning the error.
  12. I'm hoping you meant 2018 and not 2019. I've been waiting for this plane since the Bf-109K4 came out. If you count since the kickstarter its been 3 years.
  13. P-47s were known for hot rodding.
  14. Dive recovery flaps were standard on the D-30. Hopefully this will allow Thunderbolt pilots to escape compressibility at will. The Thunderbolt is said to be the greater diver but there is no evidence for this claim from WW2. However the Mustang X and P-47C were tested equal in a dive after picking up enough speed where the aircrafts power to weight ratios became irrelevant. The second comparison was done in the 1970s, IIRC. The article stated that the P-47 out dived the P-51 while starting and a slower speed of 10knots. I'd guess the P-47 would be equal to or greater than the P-51 in a dive.
  15. https://www.facebook.com/groups/wixhq/permalink/10155426057197552/ Great to see Dottie Mea flying again.
  16. Lol, that's the only thing that's keeping my hopes afloat. I'm dying for some high altitude combat with a P-47.
  17. For the Jugs weight 300hp+ is only a around 15% increase. While German aircraft wereally receiving a 30% increase in power.
  18. However this isn't representative of DCS as Luftwaffe fighters are 35mph faster than what the Americans were combating in early 1944. All fighters in this game will have a service ceiling of 40,000ft+. Americans no longer have a 4000-5000ft service ceiling advantage. Luftwaffe fighters can now produce 400HP+ then before, while the Mustang has no boost. P-47 increases power by about 300hp+.
  19. I wouldnt count on it. A K4's 30mm will.make.quick work of anything.
  20. Well I'm sure DCS's intentions of the P-47 are to advertise it as a ground attack aircraft :/. Which is fair since in late 1944 only 4 fighter groups were flying the P-47 while 2 were already in transitioning to the P-51. They also renamed the the DCS WW2 forum to 1944-1945 for obvious reasons. In 1945 only the 56FG were flying P-47s. So really only one FG from the 8th air force was using P-47 with 150 octane. So I highly doubt the P-47 will be rated for 70"Hg(2800hp). 64-65"Hg is more realistic for this era anyways. Yeah without a doubt the P-47 was the best overclocker of the war. Unfortunately this can't be simulated for obvious reasons. But what would be fair is not having your engine die just because you spent an extra 10 seconds over the mandated time limits. 64"Hg is definitely confirmed
  21. Matt mentioned it in a Q&A a few days ago.
  22. Does anyone know the top speed of the K4 at seal level and at altitude?
  23. Negative, the P-47 were one of the plane that were most affected by compressibility. Second to the P-38 for a matter of fact. The P-51's max permissible speed 505mph is due to structural limitations/concerns while the P-47 is due to compressibilty. So when you start seeing ailerons and elevators pop off at 500mph in your P-47 prepare to cringe. Structurally, I'm sure the P-47 structurally, is fine far above 500mph. The P-47N's maximum permissible IAS at seal level is 564mph. However the wings were strengthen on the N, giving it a 576lbs heavier empty weight.
  24. Yes we will be getting dive flaps.
  25. The Polls say they are equal but in game it's clear that people prefer the easier plane to fly. The Bf-109K4. Kinda goes to show the majority of the community is just turn and burn. The K4 is clearly the best energy fighter too and faster than any other allied plane. You can out turn, out run and our climb a Mustang... while only having to worry about the Spitfire breaking it's wings trying to turn with you :) I actually own the Fw-190 and I can say the Spitfire poses no threat and neither does the Mustang. The only thing you have to worry about is keeping your speed up and not turning. A diving Mustang is scary, but a couple of high speed turns and shallow climb away. Spitfires may as well be standing still as they are too slow the even think about catching a Fw-190. I can imagine it being like flying a Bf-109F4 in IL2BoS. If there's a problem just spiral climb away lol.
