Sticky warthog fix [Video]
SinusoidDelta replied to Frusheen's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Where's the fun in that though? I've had mine apart 3 times now! :) Fix it until its broken! -
I watch again (not on my phone this time) and you're right, nothing special going on there. The t30 heads are in really bad shape. Luckily there are a ton of them and they do the knock test haha. You were correct, just tight for flight! :)

Probably shapeways.

New TM HOTAS Warthog not recognized
SinusoidDelta replied to EagleDCC's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
don't take anything apart until you speak with TM. The next thing I would try is going into your bios settings and turn off xHCI mode. Make sure you're using a rear USB port, see if the error is same, reinstall drivers and check again. -
I think you misunderstood me. I was saying an SFS could be incorporated into a stick that does have displacement. I understand none exist as of now. Regarding pure physics FFB, even with a perfect mechanism the limitation is in predicting what force should be applied at any given moment. God only knows how you'd predict that in a hydraulically boosted and augmented control system.

Tight for flight :) I'm fairly certain the mechanic in that video is using what's called a torque limiting socket. Hear the click when he stops fastening? They are very accurate, very repeatable and very simple. automotive manufacturing uses what's called an ETC gun. They're electronically controlled and depending on the gun the set torque falls within a specified range. The issue is there a cumbersome usually attached overhead to their power source. What they do allow for is traceability, every bolt and every nut torque achieved can be stored in a database. But they need to be calibrated on a regular basis. As far as wrenching in the garage, I probably won't use my torque wrench bolting on my cool new footprint gas pedal but almost anything else I'm going to use a clicker torque wrench, even on my lug nuts.

Wow, sure does.

Any model in particular you may be interested?

hahaha....Totally kidding. All I've ever wanted was the F-15C. The F-15E would likely be better, but I wouldn't use any pounds for ground when I'm piloting it. I just want the -229's and avionics. -

Make sure the stick grip is correctly attached to the base. The connectors may not seated. I had a similar issue. After checking that try updating the bios. If that's not the issue, I'd contact thrustmaster, maybe RMA. -
Sticky warthog fix [Video]
SinusoidDelta replied to Frusheen's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
if you don't have the problem I would say yes leave it alone you're more likely to break something than make the stick perform better. if you're confident in your abilities then start out low grit then repeat with a higher grit sandpaper, until you get to the highest (400-600-1000-2000). Mostly you are just trying to get rid of whats called 'flash', leftover plastic from the injection molding process. Its pretty unacceptable from a QC standpoint that TM's parts are not finished, they don't break hard edges or ensure proper fitment of mating surfaces. I was shocked when I opened my warthog up. Edit: Do not use silicone spray lubricant. Use a known, plastic safe, non- conductive lithium grease. -
I can't wait to get my hands on my VKB stick. It should be here in a month and a half. The warthog has been the single biggest disappointment I've spent four hundred dollars on. It is literally an oversized gimbal design out of a console gaming controller. There is also the maxfighter and their line of projects. They are a pit though, not a desktop item. In a perfect world I'd want a stick with redundancy, Hall IC's to measure displacement, a linear force curve inherent to the mechanical design and a load cell / stick force sensor to correct any error in commanded stick force vs predicted force for a given displacement. This could actually be done somewhat cheap now. There are certain automotive load cells that are very compact and have an incredible degree of accuracy, are extremely durable, and near identical calibration coefficients from part to part.

Universal Model Visibility Setting Mod
SinusoidDelta replied to Why485's topic in Utility/Program Mods for DCS World
This is a great effort you've gone through but at my native resolution of 3440x1440 Have difficulty spotting fighters within 2 miles, even when I know exactly where to look there is no contrast between the background and the aircraft. There is a haze pervading the entire caucus and NTTR. Looking at your screenshot I see the same thing. In 4K the effect is what I imagine glaucoma would feel like. I have tried every possible setting on my PC and monitor that I can think of and nothing helps. Do lower resolutions not have this problem? It's sad to say the enviornment still looked better in 1.2.6, and I made that same claim in November. I know I'm not the only person experiencing but it seems only those with greater resolutions are effected and more white noise is added. Maybe the full zoom is unfair at high resolution with the model scaling but all I want is the same visibility I had in 1.2.6. -

I apologize, I'm sure multiple people have requested this. Either the MD-150 Lun Class Ekranoplan: Dat ground effect. Or this masterpiece, the KM, A.k.a. The Caspian Sea Monster: -
I omitted the reason I upgraded to the warthog. After 2.5 hours trying to hook up to the boom my 3D Pro went flying across the room. At least the warthog is heavier and more difficult to rage throw. :)

Supporting wingman's SARH ?
SinusoidDelta replied to Dirty Rotten Flieger's topic in DCS: Flaming Cliffs
Comms are overmodeled, if anything. If realism is what were after, TS or third party comms give us an infinitely powerful radio, that is extremely easy to operate, can't be jammed, can't really be eavesdropped on, and sounds clear as a bell 400 miles away. -
After reading most of the threads in other subs, you would think such success with the flanker is impossible. Nice flying and good videos!

Supporting wingman's SARH ?
SinusoidDelta replied to Dirty Rotten Flieger's topic in DCS: Flaming Cliffs
When year did the flanker get datalink? Did it show position of friendlies without ground radar? IRL the historical eastern doctrine was to be vectored by GCI, the fighter was just an extension of someone on the ground with a birds eye view. They told you where to go and it was assumed you would comply. And Cik, it's not a paragraph of BRA information. With all due respect, you need to be a bit more respectful here. People are trying to help you, if you don't want to hear it then don't post. -

Supporting wingman's SARH ?
SinusoidDelta replied to Dirty Rotten Flieger's topic in DCS: Flaming Cliffs
Sorry, didn't mean to imply anything. I'll keep my worthless advice to myself. Best of luck navigating through the F10 map. -
Too many of my aerobatic displays end by riding a deep stall into mother earth. You may talk to Sweeper, his high AoA pass with 3 bags is legendary. :megalol: As far as formation flight (or attempting it) I've found setting up a 'User Curve" under axis tune too be incredibly helpful. My 3DPro with a simple 20-25 curve and a 5 deadzone made it pleasant enough to get comfortable. When I upgraded to the Warthog stick I found a pure linear response too twitchy for my liking with small stick movements. Using the same standard 25 curve and 0 deadzone made it tolerable when making small adjustments but more unpredictable as you increased input. The picture below is a crude user curve I made but try it out on both pitch and roll axes. You may need to add a small deadzone for your stick. It should be a good starting point though.

Supporting wingman's SARH ?
SinusoidDelta replied to Dirty Rotten Flieger's topic in DCS: Flaming Cliffs
What is an atypical wide spread? You don't need to maintain visual to coordinate. You need to navigate. Human nature is to latch on to inaccuracies and shout for a quick fix to keep their K/D ratio around one bum rushing their adversaries. Many neglect what DCS does well. It provides us an opportunity to understand the value of a compass, the unexpected effect of angles and more importantly the necessity for three dimensional thinking...something very foreign to us terrestrials. Bombers didn't navigate to their targets and back home by wishing in on stars and praying. They did the math. Long hand. If combat spread doesn't work, don't do that anymore. Flying line abreast right to the enemy is not a tactic. Switch formations mid flight, be unpredictable. You have to find a weakness and exploit. Set up your wingman to be unexpected by that eagle. You both win. Bracket them, get creative. Set a trap. Make your priority to stay alive at all costs. RTB with zero kills and every missile on your rail. If you learn to survive you'll become deadly quick. Do the same thing too much and you'll become tired of DCS in a hurry. -
Supporting wingman's SARH ?
SinusoidDelta replied to Dirty Rotten Flieger's topic in DCS: Flaming Cliffs
I apologize if I'm misreading your comment but the single biggest issue in multiplayer is a lack of communication, coordination and mutual support. How did the eagle drivers get by in the decades before data link? Or anyone the decades of air combat before. They did it just as you described. It's not about being very good as a lone wolf. You can shout bra calls all day. I often hear a cacophony of them in MP TS and it's totally useless because I have no clue where you are and where your nose is pointed. Act as a cohesive group. Make a plan. One wingie is scanning low, the other is scanning high. Lose sight of your wingman? Call Blind. If you need to build SA then start giving your bullseye reference and request posit from your team mates. Now they when they get a contact you know roughly wear it is. Build a picture. That is situational awareness and it's the next best thing to datalink.
