Its probably because the vast majority of users (those on stable) don't understand why we have to wait half a year for ED to work on complex lighting and TGP rendering changes to the core engine to be resolved before we get some simple additions to already PAID for modules... Be honest does ED REALLY need to get those sorted out BEFORE we get the additional assets? Is there any reason they can't just add simple stuff (like new assets) to stable in the interim?

Are you SURE that things like new manuals, new training missions, campaign fixes, 3rd party plane updates (graphics, new weapons, HUD fixes etc etc) are REALLY tied to the core engine code that's causing lighting and FPS problems with 2.5.6 ??? I'm pretty sure most of them aren't...and if so WHY SHOULDN'T stable users get them? Especially 3rd party changes...the user PURCHASED the module from a THIRD PARTY, the THIRD PARTY releases updates/new functionality/bug-fixes to ED in the expectation that will be distributed to their CUSTOMERS. Not that it'll be distributed to a tiny fraction of their customer based and locked behind a wall for the majority simply because ED values the minority on Open Beta MORE than it does the majority on its release version. Yes, ED has had many, many problems with OB...but there is no reason AT ALL for ED not bundling up the third party changes and adding them to stable...for ages ED hid behind the claim that a stable release could ONLY be the previous Open Beta release (as that's the "way it works") well lo and behold! When it suited ED for marketing/promotional purposes...what do we get? A stable release that ISN'T the previous OB release - but something completely different (DCS 2.5.5.41371.1) so there's simply NO REASON for ED not to do the same with all the third party content that has been developed and walled away from stable users...

Start with telling us what version you are on. Lower right corner of the main menu screen. You KNOW exactly what version he is on...and that he hasn't got the new AI models/assets as he's on Stable not Open Beta You're ONLY asking him so you can go on to tell him...that he needs to be on Open Beta to access them... Well truth be, maybe the REAL queation is why are ED only releasing the new assets, for an ALREADY paid for module...to a small minority of users on a test-only version of the game.
-
Over TWICE as many users are on stable as on the Beta Test version (EDs OWN figures) instead of trying to ridicule him for utilising - the most popular version, the official release version, the version without many game-breaking bugs across various modules... Perhaps start wondering why ED doesn't release something as simple as AI assets/3D modules to its user base that has ALREADY purchased them...and they consider it normal/acceptable

Training mission : Air to Air, can't set HUD to Air to Air
jasonbirder replied to d0ppler's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
Its a long press (press and hold for a second or so) on the Master Mode Button to activate AA Mode Short Press (as you've already found out) cycles through NAV, GUNS, CCIP, CCRP Doesn't masster what you have as SOI Master Mode button works independently -
Good lord...open letters! I remember them well from IL2 1946 and ED!

Indeed! I thought one of the MAJOR points of the Supercarrier module was going to be realistic comms/ATC which would ultimately be ported to groundside airfields too... Not going to lie - was one of the key reasons I bought it in EA. If its just pretty graphics/animations and extra spawn points for MPers...what's the point of it?

Given that ED has now shown they can release "Out of Sequence" Stable Versions with DCS 2.5.5.41371.1 (IE: A stable Version that isn't simply a tested and functioning Open Beta release, but a different update containing completely different items) Given that a) the overwhelming majority of players use stable and b) its been 4 months since an update to stable (and could be many months more) would ED consider an update on Stable version 2.5.5 adding things such as bug-fixes, DLC/thrid party fixes/updates, adding in the JF17 etc Seems to me this is a matter of import and would have the benefit of a) showing there is still interest in/support for the majority of users and b) could allow many people struggling with the OB version to revert back to stable without losing their modules/newer F16/FA18 functionality?
-
Thanks for the answer and apologies for assuming otherwise!
-
Was Released purely so the majority of DCS Customers wouldn't be able to say - it hasn't been updated for 4 months? Its the VERY first time a Stable Release Version HASN'T been based on an Open Beta Candidate - so seems a huge step to take for such an unimportant and trivial change

It works in bad weather - TGP doesn't Whilst DCS multi-player always exists in clear skies (or nearly so) Atlantic/Pacific/Indian Ocean, Scandanavia/NW Europe/Balkans/Korea etc are notorious for having alot of fog/cloud/rain...which renders the TGP ineffective.

Update 2.5.6 for Supercarrier requirement
jasonbirder replied to hawa0835's topic in DCS: Supercarrier
Its not just about Supercarrier though is it...thats not even released - so fair enough it can sit in OB as early release fora while before the stable "scrubs" get it... But what about the JF17, what about show-stopping bugs introduced in the December stable-updates, what about paid for DLC Campigns broken in the last stable update...that have had fixes created by their 3rd part developers... What sort of timescale do you feel is reasonable to wait for those? We're at 4 months with no end in sight...so what's OK...6 months? A year? At what point do you think ED ought to give some feedback as to an expected date for that? now? June 2020? Sept 2020? Later? -
My favourite log book error was during a campaign when I completed a mission, won a medal (I forget which) and was congratulated for being "promoted" from Major to Captain As it had obviously subtracted flight hours from the particular pilot instead of adding them on!

Suggestion for an early introduction [Early access]
jasonbirder replied to falcon_120's topic in DCS: Eurofighter
Having been badly bitten by the F/A18 - i learned my lesson and avoided the F16 Much as I'd love Truegrit to develop a fully functional late model Eurofighter I'll support them in the traditional way...when they release a working product I'll support it with my hard-earned pounds. -
Update 2.5.6 for Supercarrier requirement
jasonbirder replied to hawa0835's topic in DCS: Supercarrier
That's fine...If that were the case I'd be the first to accept it... But IF ED had a plan to update stable on an ongoing basis...they'd let the community know...as it is a frequent bone of contention amongst the community... In the past, when stable was still actively supported ED would usually give an estimated timeframe for an update (typically 2 weeks after the previous beta...but occasionally longer when updates where consolidated into a single stable release or if there were unexpected problems)...BUT ED would communicate that... Currently not only will ED not give an estimated date for an update to stable...it won't give an estimate for when purchased products such as the JF17 will be made available in early access to users on stable...nor will ED confirm that there EVEN WILL BE an update to stable in a contemparary time frame...try asking them "will we see an update to stable in 2020" and you'll get - we don't want to answer that at this time No update this year, no timeframe for a future update, no timeframe for releases being actively sold etc etc It has the definate whiff of abandonware to me -
Update 2.5.6 for Supercarrier requirement
jasonbirder replied to hawa0835's topic in DCS: Supercarrier
Given stable users money is exactly the same value as open beta users money...having purchased the Supercarrier module - I'd expect that if ED can tell one set of users an approximate release date (currently 15th April) then they could give some indication to the others... I'm not expecting it to be the same date...I'm not even expecting it to be accurate...but a ROUGH estimate wouldn't seem too much to ask... Is it likely to be 2 weeks, 2 months, 6 months, a year or 2 years? (I appreciate this is sarcasm...Stable has essentially been abandoned hasn't it? New product sold & released ONLY to Beta IE: JF17, Supercarrier, no news or estimates on potential updates to Stable, no fixes to bugs introduced to stable in 2.5.5.4137 back in 2019 etc etc) -
New Pay Model / subscription discussion
jasonbirder replied to MacEwan's topic in DCS Core Wish List
A subscription model might (and I stress might) engender a greater degree of accountability from ED At the moment - any bugs/delays/queries/complaints are essentially shrugged off... You've already purchased the module/early-access module - so what incentive is there for ED to be responsive? If there were an ongoing Financial relationship it would encourage them to be more responsive (even if only in terms of comms) as there is the risk of losing that forward revenue... I'd happily pay money out...for the promise of accountability -
Update 2.5.6 for Supercarrier requirement
jasonbirder replied to hawa0835's topic in DCS: Supercarrier
I can understand whilst a new product is in development it can be difficult to give an estimated release date until it is nearly finished - due to the vagaries of projects...but as you've got to a point where you're comfortable giving people a release date for Supercarrier into openbeta (April 15th) - why is it unrealistic to expect similar information to users on the stable branch? I purchased the Supercarrier module as an early access product when it was announced too...If it is that close to completion (merely days) surely you are in a position to give an estimated date - at least as far as saying it'll be days/weeks/months behind the open beta release... -
Brilliant! many apologies for not RTFM - I think the "TAD" confused me...i was wondering if it was related to net ID on teh TAD or similar! I've got Axeman listening now :) Just need to wake up Uzi Appreciate the help Jason

Just starting the campaign...on MissionTAC11 (FAC & JTAC Co-ordination) I'm having trouble contacting the JTACs...I'm told the Tactical Frequency is TAD 12 What does this mean? Preset 12? I thought the tactical frequency was 127.5 M for this mission Besides the first JTAC (Axeman11) is on 30.0 FM - I try to check in with both "Ready for tasking" and "Playtime 15 minutes but get nothing back... Am I tuned in wrong? AM I missing a trigger? Many Thanks! I've watched recon stewarts video and it doesn't really help...

Like the Jeff you mean? -
Likewise - just finished the AAT Campaign as a follow on from the BFT Campaign...really enjoyed it - especially the night missions! A few unexpected friends sharing Kobuleti airfield! Did have a bit of a love/Hate relationship with the final mission (AG Missile employment) without giving too much away - I'd have like a little more armerment to help me deal with target 4!!!! I lost track of how many times I attempted to finish the mission once I was "Winchester" Onto the TTQ Campaign now...

Are we likely to see an update to stable in the first half of 2020 (IE before July 1st 2020) ?
