  1. From reading your statement I can only assume you've never spent $10 on a DLC campaign...only for the next update to immediately break it becasue of taxi/AI/trigger/scripting problems :)
  2. As opposed to stopping running the moment they release a slightly newer model?
  3. Why are you demanding answers, it's still months away from release and they should take all the time to properly decide whether it is too much effort to sustain a product still currently being sold in the ED store (today 11/8/2020) for $60
  4. I can see it fine too! If that's as straightforward as the statement seems...then that's good news indeed!
  5. Point of note: I'm not asking or expecting continuing support...that would be unreasonable... I'm merely asking to be able to continue using it in its PRESENT state, as it was sold...with the DLC I purchased for it...to continue to function in the way it was sold... Now, when i bought the A10C module the NTTR terrain and DLC campaigns...they were sold as being part of DCS world...(and indeed continue to be sold as such) I take that as meaning I can utilise it with the F18C I purchased in early access state shortly after...and from a literal point of view SHOULD also mean it will be usable with the F16C module that is being sold in early access... That would mean as an absolute minimum expectation that the A10C (legacy) and the currently sold DLC should be supported and function correctly with DCS versions up to the point those module LEAVE early access status The A10C & the DLC Campaigns are certainly not being sold currently with the caveat...will not be functional with the completed F18C and F16C modules in DCS World is it? If an ED representative can confirm that...that would be helpful and would clarify the confusion around the module. I'll have no issues if I'm able to "freeze" my DCS installation at a version point that includes all the modules and content I purchased prior to being told they would no longer be supported and compatible and are released in a completed state...
  6. The "in continuous and active development" is a bit of a red herring...its not at "no cost" new modules/maps/campaigns/assets have a substantial $ value attached to them and any development of the base game is to support revenue generating sales of those modules and/or to ensure legacy modules meet the minimum expectations of year 201x/202x purchasers to generate sales of those modules... Besides...my beef is with the fact that it won't be possible to take the module i've purchased launch it in the current version of the game and use it to play other products i've purchased at a substantial $ cost... The example you give BF2 Bad Company STILL works if you install patch to the latest version and launch it...and I challenge you to find any 2010/2011 examples that doesn't apply to) so we're not comparing apples with apples... As far as I'm concerned ED may/maynot continue to develop new functionality/modules etc etc...but surely any customers BARE MINIMUM expectation of ED is that they DON'T DISABLE product i've already purchased without an apology and a refund... (ANd no such esoteric fixes such as identifying which legacy version still functions and then installing it side by side with a current version ISN'T a realistic solution) As i've repeatedly pointed out the cost of the new A10C module isn't an issue (or the Syria map etc etc) BUT its a far more unappealing prospect if I have no idea how long they'll be functional for...how long (for example) should we expect the F18C and its associated DLC to be functional for? Will ED release an F18 E/F and thus render it and its associated DLC (Serpents Head/Raven One etc) null and void? The fact that this concern has been raised a number of times here and elsewhere with zero comment from ED repressentatives about the future viability of peoples original A10C & content purchases is concerning to say the least...
  7. Blimey...that's a whole 4 pounds cheaper than buying a new set from the manufacturer... What a bargain LOL
  8. You don't have many games that still work after 10 years? Really? Seems unlikely...which games do you have from 2010 (the year of Football Manager 2010, Starcraft 2 etc) that no longer work? Purely out of interest, what do you think is an acceptable lifespan for an entertainment product you purchase...before the owner of the IP renders it unusable without jumping through a number of technical hoops?
  9. TBF its not so much the expense...its that DCS will be taking one of the very few finished documented complete modules, supported by a significant amount of playable content & replacing it with one that (being charitable) lacks any playable content - and who knows if it'll be released in a completed and fully documented state... As I said earlier I have no issues if ED wants to "milk" a bit of low-hanging fruit for extra-revenue I'll jump on that band-wagon myself...even if its in an unfinished state I'm sure it'll be fun for a bit of training/switchology practice (In the same way as the F/A18 is) I'll be happy to purchase it... What IS unacceptable is the (effective) removal of the earlier A10C and all associated content unless you either have multiple c200MB+ seperate DCS installs on your PC or unless you resign yourself to not being able to use any other DCS content (IE: just maintan a legacy DCS install out of sync with current releases) In fairness I'll leave it here...really the onus is not on us to guess what will happen...but for an ED rep to answer a very straightforward question from users about the future status of a paid for module and associated DLC...(particularly in line with their statements that "it would never happen again" after the VAEO fiasco) could Nineline/Bignewy please comment on what will happen with the existing (legacy) A10C module & associated paid-for DLC in future DCS versions (IE:>DCS 2.5.6.52437) subsequent to the release of the new A10C II module.
  10. Which ones...which modern games (barring the CLoD example I quoted upthread...which is borderline as CLoD was abandonned by its developers and picked up by a modding group) have built in obsolescence...such that the product I bought...no longer works moving forward? I don't have a huge game collection...so I'm not best placed to answer it...but I can categorically state that ALL my Crusader Kings DLC still works...that despite the release of multiple "themed scenario DLCs...my base CMNAO and it scenarios still work...despite the release of Battle of Bodenplatte, my Batttle of Stalingrad still works etc etc... Even that most egregious of Software companies didn't "break" my Office products...when I upgraded to a new Windows!
  11. I PAID for this DLC in Jan 2020...7 months ago...it no longer works (I'm sure we can ALL agree that is an EXTREMEL BAD thing) It's been uploaded to the user files (in a currently non-functional state) in the hope that someone will work on it and fix it... I'm not sure that's a example of how great things are!
  12. You can't edit paid-for DLC beacause of copywrite protection
  13. If I substitute..."Not Broken" with "supported" it seems pretty reasonable to me... No-one is asking them to add content, update it with new graphics etc etc...simply have it operating at the current level of functionality - without any degredation or breakage... Have our expectations of software companies really fallen so low...that "You've had it a few months...so if it doesn't work anymore...that's not an issue" is a typical user response... Besides...its far from free isn't it...A10C module at $80, 7 DLC Campaigns at $10 each...how long should I expect them to continue working for at that price?
  14. Has anyone from ED confirmed there will be full support for the legacy A10C and all legacy A10C DLC in each future release version of DCS... If they have that's fantastic...if they haven't aren't you just being the pollyanna to my doomsayer?
  15. If they don't break the content I have paid a substantial $ investment for...and don't break legacy created content... I'll be happy as a sandboy... Is it REALLY unreasonable to just ask ED NOT to take away the products I have purchased by rendering them unuseable except by jumping through convoluted technical hoops to play a legacy version that WON'T be compatible with any of your other DCS content? I mean...I believe Audi have brought out a new version of the A6...but I haven't seen a VAG rep...come round and tow my existing car off the drive...
  16. Thanks :)
  17. AM i missing something in the UFC/HUD functionality As I read it and have tried it out the "HACK" function seems to merely add an (ostensibly synchronised) Stopwatch countdown to the HUD Now maybe I'm remembering something from AnotherSim.TM...but is there a way to add a "time hack" that alters the DTOT for all of your waypoints by the entered time? EG: My flight is running late adn we ant to add a +5:00 MM:SS to all DTOTs to bring required speeds within limnits or to co-ordinate with other flights that are running behind schedule etc etc If there is where is it and where is it documented as I can't find it Cheers!
  18. Game - an activity that one engages in for amusement or fun. Seems pretty straightforward to me
  19. I was/am prepared to be happy about a NEW A10C module - it probably would have slotted right alongside the Syria map as my next purchase - IF it had been a new module to tinker with occasionally like I for sh*ts and giggles occasionally dabble with the Harrier and the Hornet If it ever leaves early access AND had a full and complete suite of purchased/user created content to support it...it would eventually supplant the DCS module I currently enjoy (The A10C) As it is, "rumour" or "jungle drums" seem to indicate that ED might well dump it into the game in a semi-finished state with ZERO playable content whilst simultaneously dropping and then fairly rapidly (given the historic progression of DCS updates) crippling the Module I currently have and enjoy along with the multiple paid for DLCs i purchased for it (7 campaigns at last count) So we'll get something un-usable except for multi-player/messing around and lose one of the few finished, functioning and content supported modules... I don't call it a cause for celebration... ED/DCS does apppear to be the only extant game i own (amongst many that have cost me a fortune in DLC/content modules) over the years...that feel its quite acceptable to just "trash" things you've bought historically... It does just make you wonder if for all its great points I'd be better off just getting rid of DCS and focusing on a more customer responsive title... **I've come back to edit this...I remembered Cliffs Of Dover eventially trashing all the desastersoft paid-for campaigns - so, fairly comparable - but look what happened to CLoD its not really extant except as a mod-group released semi-commercial add-on to sit alongside the BoX series...**
  20. That's not CONTENT - is it? That's a plane module CONTENT = Paid for and/or free Quality Campaigns and Missions Yes, it'll still be available to use as a Cockpit/Switchology simulator (ED's preferred vision for DCS us) but there'll be nothing to DO will there?
  21. Obviously existing content won't work with a completely different aircraft. If (as happened with Blackshark 2...and in exactly the same scanario...new paid for add-on/reduced cost to existing owners) they stop supporting the old A10...do you really beieve existing DLC/user-made campaigns will be updated to be compatible with a (now outdated and no longer available module) particularly as you'd need to roll back your game version to a previous one to make it work at all! Blimey...the A10C is still CURRENT and some of the DLC i've bought for it no longer works...(OPF/Stone Shield being prime examples...haven't tried EW 3.0 with the current version yet) So yes, no historic content for your current A10C seems a given...ED won't release any content for the new A10C...as its an anathema to its visualisation of a combat flight sim (IE: ideally no combat unless people want to SPAMRAAM each other) and we're reliant on mission creators going back to the A10C and releasing new content for what is essentially (HMCS/APKWS notwithstanding) the 2nd oldest module in the plane set... Look at User Files...how much A10C stuff is uploaded currently (then filter in how much GOOD A10C stuff is released currently) We're not going to be swamped are we...
  22. To be fair if ED themselves pumped out a selection of free and paid-for content for the modules (a few SP missions with new updates in the way they add additional functionality and a regular release of paid for DLC campaigns (official ones would be better - as then ED would be obligated not to trash it a few weeks after you've purchased it) then they'd start adressing the content gap... Dynamic Campaigns might be a bit of a stretch until ATC, WIngment and AI start working better - as you're reliant on assets acting in appropriate ways without extensive scripting...
  23. Christ alive i never thought of that...lets just hope its a hell of a long time before the newer version is rleased If they're intending to kill off a mature, complete and well supported module and replace it with a new version with ZERO content!
  24. Not a massive issue by any means - but just running through these missions again as a "good habits" refresher and noticed that on Mission 01 (Ground Handling) when it checks your start up procedure it fails you (UQ rating) for not turning on the Jmr on the CMSP, even if you are in Standby mode and have RWR, dispenser and MWS switch on... However, in the default loadout for the mission you don't have an ECM pod loaded. As I say not a huge issue and I suspect the mission objective is to teacha good "standard start up flow" that fits common situations...but just thought it worth mentioning!
  25. Very interested to know what happens when if) I upgrade to the A10C II - will I still have access to the original A10C module and all associated missions/campaigns/DLC... Or will it be a 1 for 1 replacement (IE: making it unplayable for existing SP users)
