Should we expect wednesday release?
jasonbirder replied to laertesson's topic in DCS: A-10C II Tank Killer
Was the HMCS confirmed as being included Day One? I know the new Digital Radio wasn't... Wonder if tomorrow we'll just get the new externals/cockpit/flight model & the weapons we've seen demonstrated (Oh and please, please, please let the external lights be fixed) -
That's because in the real world they're using a simulator as a procedural trainer to learn/review/embed specific knowledge/processes... "Flying a whole mission" would make no sense and waste time/effort/money The OP isn't even asking for "Only Hot Starts" he's asking for on PAID DLC Campaigns...he wants the "full mission experience" with cold starts so ehe can enjoy (as part of the entertainment package he paid for) a full end to end mission experience.

I think Northstar98 pretty much nailed it... Start up is a time to get your Aircraft set up - by the time i've set up DSMS profiles, CMS profiles, put in Mission points for threat rings, no fly areas, contact points/holding points etc I might as well have done a cold start...far preferable than trying to get it all done "on the hoof" en route!

[FIXED] HUD: A picture is worth a thousand words?
jasonbirder replied to randomTOTEN's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
I have a strong feeling that the POV is positioned too far forward - as I can move backwards using 6DOF and get a much better position. Also looking down seems to give a very acute view onto the Front Panels...and looking left you have to look a long way back to view/interact with the Radio's/IFF panel. As far as i'm aware its not possible to move the seat forwards/backwards (unlike up/down) to correct this... -
[FIXED] HUD: A picture is worth a thousand words?
jasonbirder replied to randomTOTEN's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
I didn't hate the old HUD view (Track IR User) but i'm finding it difficult to find a position where I can see the heading tape AND the top row of MFCD buttons... Any tips? -
Definately worth it...i've got & flown all 3 (Basic, Advanced & Tactical Training) Was a brilliant learning experience flying them starting from Ground Handling & Start up to advanced multi-element missions. Good replayability - as they're great refreshers to help agaisnt "skill erosion" if you haven't flown for a while...

If "Early Access" and "Release" are RAZBAM internal definitions rather than direct descriptors of a modules development status...how would I, as an external customer know WHEN to purchase a module and be confident it was in a completed & fully functional state?
-
Yes please :)

To make this aegument moot...couldn't ED just disable 8/10 AMRAAM, 6 AIM54 and triple maverick loadouts on the F/A18, F14 and A10 and wveryone will be happy!
-
Is it possible to be a “hater” if you have both bought multiple products from a company AND engaged with them on the forums (whether in a positive or negative way) If doing those two things doesn’t qualify an individual as “one of the most avid and engaged supporters of RAZBAM it is possible to be” What on earth are the criteria? Send all the shareholders birthday presents each year?

How do you learn the systems without the manuals? How do you relate real world workflows to the DCS sim without the manual... Things like Chucks Guides and You Tube videos are great to help you out and give you a top-level overview...but there's not enough to get to the real "meat" of employing the Aircraft...

Mission 5 Sturmovik Campaign for A10 C
jasonbirder replied to Goofeyfoot's topic in Mission and Campaigns
The 3 sets of Targets are all "moving targets" So the co-ordinates tend to refer more to their point of origin than their final positions You'll need to do a VID search for them - work on the assumption they're moving from the co-ordinates in the direction of the FLOT and you'll be OK I alwasy assumed the campaign was called "Sturmovik" because it wanted to try and create the "vibe" of the old WW2 Russian Ground Pounder...so strafing/rockets/dumb bombs rather than Mavericks/GBUs If Memory serves me correctly (its been a while since I flew this one) Hope that's in some way helpful -
Why are they mad? We're literally the very definition of "perfect clients" We've all brought one or more of their products AND are engaged with them (or in this case their 3rd party Partner ED) about their software...to the point that people are even assisting them gratis on bug ID & tracking most of us are happily looking for an excuse to buy future products from them if current issues can be resolved... If that makes them MAD...what kind of customers would make them happy?
-
WE'll put it back into EA status to reflect its current state and demonstrate we are commited to significant development resources being allocated to the AV8B II. We are releasing the Manual xxx, we are adding the campaign yyy, critical issues brought up in the COmmunity Bug Tracker are being investigated and we hope to release ongoing fixes monthly as they are completed with each ED update with a view to brining it out of EA at the earliest possible time" Its not rocket science is it?
-
Can I just say, that its not on you! With you writing the manual, we're all confident it will be superb...your work is always of fantastic quality! Similarly delays CAN happen - especially in these unprecedented times...most of us have expreienced disruption to our work & project schedules...that's not unexpected. Peoples only beef was that it was taken out of EA...even though the manual wasn't available (for good reasons) logic should have dictated...manual essential for a module to be considered "complete"...no manual...module still in EA status until manual published.
-
As I should always - I'll preface my comment with the caveat..."I know its not you...you're just communicating what you've been told" and as its so, so easy to dismiss me as someone always critisising DCS - I'll point out that far from being a "hater" I have purchased 6 fully detailed planes, 11 DLC Campaigns, 3 Terrains & 1 supporting module - and by definition go so far beyond the definition of "supporter of DCS" as to be ridiculous But seriously...AV8B Pocket Guide (even Razbam don't dare call it a manual) 125 pages are you seriously suggesting the A10C (Manual 671 pages) is an Aircraft more than 4 times as complex as the Harrier? Even the simple daylight fighter the F5 Tiger 2 (IR Missiles/Unguided Weapons only/Ranging Radar only...no TPOD/LST etc) Manual weighs in at 289 pages...is it really TWICE as complex as the Harrier Razbam calling the manual complete is nothing more than sleight of hand so Razbam can take the Harrier out of Early Access status. Out of interest when I purchased the AV8B module a Campaign was listed in the Products. "Instant action, single, and training missions as well as a campaign" This line doesn't currently exist in the Harrier Product Page - what happened to that?
-
Whilst you are in one sense, correct - the F/A18C Early Access Guide is in a far more up to date state than the last time I browsed it (so apologies) It does concern me a little...that your take away from my "2 Full price Products - No Manuals" comment was...how dare you critisise...ONE of those modules you paid good money for HAS got a manual... Rather than...what can we do to address your concern as a customer about the lack of documentation for a product you paid $60 for nearly 2 years ago...
-
Surely, but surely a proper Manual is an absolute bare minimum requirement before leaving EA...even if there are future systems to be implemented/polished Crazy they could even consider calling it out of EA (even if not feature complete) without a manual...its meant to be a study sim...what are you supposed to study? I truly hope this isn't something being run up the flagpole to see if they can get the F/A18C out of EA without a manual...
-
Aren't most of us "eternal trainees" though...or at least those of us with open minds...if you want to be even moderately competent do we ever stop learning/practicing...and isn't DCS the perfect example of the Dunning–Kruger effectin that the more we learn & practice...the more we realise there is left to learn...and perfect... Or maybe its just me...and you're already perfect in your prefered airframe (s)
-
I'm pretty sure nobody starts out magically capable in Formation Flying....just like AAR it takes practice...the question is does telling people most the playerbase can't fly formation to save their ass in my experience encourage people to give it a try and then get better...or put them off joining in with others before they've even started?
-
I'd suggest that AAR is substantively easier than formation flying...your baseline is either straight level and stable speed or in a gentle even turn, throw in the fact that you're staying very close (holding formation counter-intuitively gets easier the closer you are) in a static position relative to your baseline have only a single "sight picture" to master and no turns/transitions and its easier to master!

Do we have ANY evidence (even anedotal would be interesting) that MP players are uber-L33T-Ninja pilots and SP Players are dumb noob scrubs who take off on the Taxiway at full afterburner... Or are you just being pointlessly controversial... After all, if its just MP players that can AAR...the answer to the OP "What percentage of DCS Pilots can Reliably Air Refuel at least one Airframe" is therefor obviously...only a small minority of the DCS user base...

Where are the Instant Action Missions for Syria Map
jasonbirder replied to Gpruitt54's topic in Bugs and Problems
The Missions added (I know there's A10C and Mi8 at the very least) in the last patch are Missions under the Mission tab...rather than Instant Action Pretty sure not every plane has them yet
