  1. Thanks for all the great replies! One, I've decided a while back rather than getting involved with Steam and DCS I'd stick to DCS itself as standalone. I do use Steam for other games though such as CoH, etc. Good point on creating another store account separately from my existing one too. I think I will try that. I guess I could have two separate store accounts under the same name though, would I have to make it under her name although I don't know because the registration will come back all to the same house address when filling out the info. Don't know what it's peimarily based on for registration. Thanks for the invite for flying as multiplayer team. In fourth month of full chemo now and it seems like I'm having slightly more "good" days than "not so good days". It's scary because they said 4-6 months of intense treatments so as I'm nearing the last few months one can't wonder "how well will I really get? Will this be about as good as it gets?" Oh well, I'm maintaiin the positive attitudes and try not to look into the future. The main problem now is getting up through the nights for bathroom breaks (I know....TMI!) which interrupts my sleep then I feel fatigued much of the day hence I end up grounding myself from the PC. Plus my hands still shake from side effects of the new chemo which REALLY drives me nuts. So I'm not getting the flight time practicing that I need and I have shakey hands! Its not bad when flying stick or using rudders, it's just when I'm concentrating on "small" things like switches and dials or even just writting things down or holding a glass that it becomes noticeable. So, until I learn what the hell I'm doing in this completed vast and awesome new DCS world with all the tons of options with mission designs and multiplayer and learning each aircrafts systems I'm going to be doing the best I can when I can in the meantime. I guess the nickname under my cockpit would say "Shakey"! Thanks again. The machine I built in the den I have the ASUS Rampage Extreme V running my new 5930 chip at 4.5 with H110 water cooling and 16 GB of the DDR4 and the GeForce 780ti so everything seems to be stable. My good friend helped me assemble it as I found it really hard to hold hands steady for the small screws and stuff. The one upstairs is almost the same setup using water cooling and about the same hardware but is three years earlier and is coupled with the GTX590 graphics card which is fine but showing its age I think. That rig was running my 780ti before I swapped it into the newer machine. I'll just have to see how frame rates are with the older rig before heading into multi player I guess but I suppose I should be good with the new rig as I don't want to lag anyone. Thanks again Gang! Good advice and I appreciate it all! Jeff B. Aka mrmertz PS - have been showing off DCS to a couple of friends/family via the vids on YouTube and they are pretty impressed, especially when the professional flight chatter matches the flying. They all say it's like watching a documentary more than a flight sim! So, I may have two more people coming onboard to DCS here very soon too...hopefully! Keep up the good work guys!
  2. Greetings to all and Happy New Years! Quick question. Just built a new rig and have DCS installed on it plus many modules. The "old" gaming rig went upstairs to the loft computer table. It has DCS installed, no extra modules besides the two that came with it. I take it since when installing the modules they ping the hardware to define the computers they are residing on hence if I wanted to run modules on the other computer upstairs that would mean purchasing the same for upstairs then too. I other words, one plane module can't be installed on two machines even if residing in the same household. One module purchase per machine. Just wanted to know while the sale is still active. The wife must be taking pity on me as I no know personal friends that are into flying so she wants to see wants to see what it would be like flying side by side in the computer screens with two SU-25t's after some training and practice. That's when I decided if she takes to it purchasing a couple of additional modules for her to fly on the rig upstairs. Which now that I think about it means another stick and rudder. Ugh. Poor credit card. Thanks everybody and best wishes for the New Years. Be safe and healthy. Jeff B.
  3. You and me both buddy! And this December sale certainly didn't hurt any either! I had no choice but to put a $120. hit on my credit card last night but I like the idea of supporting our hobby and it eventually helps everyone in the long run. Best wishes for this Christmas season and New Years blessings also to all you DCS supporters out there! Be safe and be healthy. Jeff aka mrmertz
  4. Well hell yes then, definitely Happy Bithday wishes to you from mrmertz!
  5. I'd rather see it later and really have its "act together" bug and otherwise. Realize the impatience, but I've always leaned on the 'quality over quantity' route, even if it is a single piece of software. I'd hate to see them go the Microsoft route of shoving something out half baked just to meet some deadline. Ugh. DCS seems too smart for that.
  6. You'll probably soon forget all about food and gas money the first few times you take to the skies in either of those! Well, at least until you find out you don't have enough gas money to go buy lunch. I'm new here and applaud your decision. You only go around once in this life - enjoy it. Be responsible, but enjoy it nonetheless. Congrats! :)
  7. So with that being said, not to beat a dead horse, would be nice if they could incorporate that same tasking to the back seater if flying solo in an F-4E. If indeed, such tasking would be available and work in a realistic manner. Since they are flirting with the B-17 in the new theater module and talk of being even at some point flyable, would be cool to be able to implement a single player into the element instead of always having to play multi simply because it's a multi-command aircraft. I'd love to fly solo missions in a B-17 or B-24 during a career while having an all AI crew, so long as it could be integrated correctly. Perhaps even let the AI take over then go man the bomb sights at the critical, time would jazz things up even more....but would probably have the devs pulling their hair out too.
  8. One reason I decided to go standalone and directly with DCS themselves. Plus all the cool downloads by users and such. And you deal directly with DCS if any problems arise.
  9. ..."yet" ...but fingers crossed...this year has been a killer for us financially. A good decent sale would mean CC charge then transferred to another introductory CC at zero interest. Oooooh, if one wants to fly bad enough there ARE ways.
  10. That's the team spirit!
  11. So based on that I guess no flyable WW2 bombers then would be available. Bummer.
  12. I know myself all too well what Jim must have gone through. You're at peace now my friend, and fought one of the toughest fights a human can ever face. I pray that this stupid cancer is someday irradicatted from this world but each day advances are being made to help future generations. You will be missed. a true sim pioneer. God's speed.
  13. Windows 8.1
  14. P-47D in PFM form - same for a P-38 Lightning! Preferable in J but I'll take whatever.
  15. Gee, guess I'm in the minority here! I prefere the new ones without all those little dots trailing behind the ignited flares themselves. I've seen them dropped, but never to me looked like the old models...always had some vapor expended behind them, not droplets or whatever the old pics show. Just basing on real world, not game visuals. I prefer the new. Perhaps a little less vapor trail though on some would tweek it just right.
  16. Now I like that idea! Get the heavy stuff done and completed THEN perhaps spend a little extra time going back and resolving older issues. Could work. Priorities, priorities. Lord knows we ALL deal with them on a daily basis in our own lives, let alone being paid to HAVE to deal with them on a full time basis as devs do. Respect all feedback to my post, as well as all others sir! Guess that's what posting should be based on to begin with anyways! Sometimes things get out of hand but everybody here seems very respectful and willing to help.
  17. I'm new too, so lots to learn after being out of computing let alone sims for over 6 months due to health issues and some side effects nearly make it impossible for me to perform physically as I should be, but that aside I see lots of promises with EDGE including improved graphics so I'd be tempted to wait and see what it delivers. Sound like a major improvement and step up for the future with DCS. Trying to boost my CPU up some notches already just to keep on the "safe side" after reading all the things it will I prove upon too! Can't wait. Hopefully improves and fixes some issues more than it causes, though I have no doubts it will. Fingers crossed.
  18. K...understood now. Let's re-write it. But again, since brand new here with DCS how important is their ATC interaction anyways? I hear lots of weird stuff happens. In MSFS it was quite critical.
  19. Agreed on EDGE, perhaps solve existing issues out there already such as visual contact (definitely needs improvement if anyone is going to dive into the pre-war BVR stuff in WW2) and perhaps will bring out new issues as well, but I like see it as a major step forward and able to unleash furthern capabilities not yet seen in DCS. So far as people complaining about the dust and such aka why is this taking so long, where's my new modules and what are all these stupid delays happening all of a sudden, I'd be in the minority then I guess. I'd take quality over quantity ANYDAY, unless I am mis-reading you sir. But then again, I must post that... 1. I'm NOT flaming DCS/ED at all here on their business modeling. I think the complexity and realism of DCS and the ability to plug in modules and still have them perform like they do is heads and shoulders way above anything else out there in the sim world and are truly made serving of praise as they now have me, the newcomer, supporting them... 2. I know bugs and software have been flowing together since the first sim ever came out. I know it's more or less at times like a dog chasing its tail. You solve one piece of the code and fix the bug, then the tail end introduces another problem unexpectedly somewhere else. Poor devs. Perhaps an all expenses paid cruise for a week or two at Kickstarter would help them to unwind and at least give them respite, though temporary, from all the complaints so they could just relax and enjoy life for a breathing moment as we do while flying their products? And no, I'm not being a smart ass here, but kind of tongue in cheek too. I realize it must not be a pleasant balancing act between solving old issues versus new plans. My hats are nonetheless off to them because I still think all the teams, third parties of course included are always working to do things within our best interest in mind which naturally should be true in any business base if you want to keep a customer base with loyalty AND continue by word of mouth to have that business grow. Was just thinking out loud some in my OP. And it's okay we agree to disagree here too! ;)
  20. Exactly. But boy it sure would be nice to just bite the bullet and get these modules up to speed where they should be in one swipe. Particularly, ATC issues, which for the most part a lot of people just seem to ignore on here altogether at times its that bad.

Is that realistic, I mean in the real aircraft? Like having your wife flying back seat. Thank God I have never been in an a/c where she has sounded off so I don't know. If it is, leave it in. But if the devs though let's make her a really bitchin' well, you know, then remove. Other to annoy if not real it should go back to its original state which makes me wonder why the change.
  22. Geez, quite a targeting system! But I think once learned on how to use it correctly will be very interesting in seeing how effective it really is while in combat. Can't wait.
  23. Kinda funny. A trainer aircraft with no training skills to accomplish.
  24. ...just laying here thinking seeing alll of these bug issues, etc. What if ED announced to all of its contracted devs "Okay, for x amount of time one month, whatever, all devs will be required to shift from putting out new modules with new bugs and concentrate on 'playing catch up' and operated soley on nothing but squashing known bugs in existing modules in order to get the modules running as they should have been in the first place and up to speed. Once this has been satisfactory accomplished, work will then continue on new modules...ironically introducing new bugs no doubt but at least we will have dealt with issues that have been outstanding for some time now and result in greater end user satisfaction." Okay, I know there will be 30 or 40 post here flaming this (such as squashing bugs doesn't bring in immediate income - but it DOES say something about how committed a company is by standing behind its product and a commitment to customer satisfaction in the long run and future customer loyalty) but all it is is just a thought. Kind of like a spring cleaning day for the devs. And yes, it would mean delays on all the new toys for us but I think giving stability and the complaints seen here if people just had patience they would in the long run be happier with the modules already purchased without having to list all these problems anymore and simply have things work finally as they were originally intended to. Patience here seems to run short at times. I personally would rather wait and deal with a far more stable and superior product than have something pushed out the door for the sake of timeframe. Not to compare at all, I think the devs do a hell of a job, but let's hope they never approach the Micosoft syndrome of "screw it, it's haf baked, we know it, but marketing has already introduced our time frame release so publish it already. We'll worry about the 20 or 30 update patches later once it's in the consumers hands ala Windows ME." OMG. I hope they NEVER come close to their mentality. I don't see that they would, but OMG wer'e all doomed IF they ever did, but ED won't let that happen. Seem to run a pretty tight ship here. So congrats to that!
  25. Love auto updating. Use it in another favorite flight sim and WW2 squad sim series and takes all the headaches and guesswork out of what goes where, etc. Particularly when updating and multiplayer is involved - everybody is on the same page before playing, same version number. Very slick.
