  1. Must say, I'm a bit disappointed about my throttle desk mount. I thought that with me having not ordered it on a restock day, it would go fairly quickly, but still wasn't expecting it any sooner than the two weeks that have been the case for my previous orders (all on restock days). Nearly 2 weeks since purchased and paid and no despatch email. Although I've made my own support, I decided to get the Virpil mount for ease of moving the throttle out of the way, as I do the stick, but as long as I'm still using my own fittings, the throttle is constantly in the way, so its a bit more frustrating than it otherwise would be.
  2. Yeah, I often take my headset off and use the mouse for SteamVR admin stuff. Edit - never mind - deleted - should have just used the ignore function, rectified that now :)
  3. That's a shame - sorry to hear that. At least, as you say, it would seem that they are working on it and seem fairly confident that they'll be able to do something about it. The key, of course, is to make sure you make it clear to support that it is adversely affecting your experience and that you're not happy with it. No reason why they shouldn't make you the same offer as they did me. I don't think it will be a quick fix, though, so we'll probably have to be patient.
  4. Well I've explained it at least twice, but whatever. Don't really care.
  5. Sorry for the triple post - addressing different things, but didn't want a huge one-stop half a page thing! :) If I were you, I would contact Steam support and send them the SteamVR log so they can see what's what. They can take a couple of days, but they are usually pretty good once they get going. Otherwise, we could sit here speculating all day long.
  6. The Steam service starts, but not the Steam client. I can't access anything in Steam unless I elect to do so, at which point the client starts up via SteamVR. So I can't do any admin or download anything etc. This is whilst using a couple of flight sims which I had mentioned, but will probably end up getting the post deleted (even though it's not comparing anything - but had this happen in the past, so...) that use SteamVR but have their own installers and otherwise run independent of Steam. As soon as I have my Rift CV1 set up on my other PC, I'll be uninstalling Home and everything to do with Oculus on this PC, because it's just silly having everything running at the same time when I use Index.
  7. I just got an interesting message from Steam support. Here's the interesting bit: I am outside the normal window for a refund - but they offered anyway, which is generous. However, I have opted for getting a replacement once they have improved the issue (if they do). Maybe this just means they will physically check the headsets they send out for replacemnt with this particular issue. Still, it's a big step forward from "this is normal & expected". :)
  8. Don't give up on the connections you already tried. I've had the headset not detected error twice, and chose another socket and it worked - later retried the one that hadn't worked and lo and behold it was working - so it can be a bit finicky. Also found that it's not always down to the USB. Once I unplugged the G-port and replugged it and it cleared the error.
  9. Not quite - I used to think so, too, but recently have found two instances where it wasn't (and I stopped using OpenComposite, so that's not why). These instances are when I am running two simulators which use SteamVR, but are not installed on Steam. You could say the Steam service is running, I suppose, but I'm not logged in and can't access anything in Steam whilst they are running. It was for this that I was considering using fpsVR and that's why I was asking if Steam needed to be open. I'm already not happy about how much opens and runs when I'm in VR - SteamVR (necessary, of course) Steam, and now Oculus seems to open every time - even when I'm running something installed on Steam - and if I switch Home off, the game/app closes, too. It's ridiculous. This happens every time I run DCS World - taking away vital resources. No wonder it's so difficult to get decent performance. I don't have DCS World in Steam. Wondering if Revive is responsible for that.
  10. I bought it when I got the Index but haven't used it so far. Is it possible to use it when SteamVR is active, but Steam itself is not?
  11. The guy who reckons he has a solution to the vertical lines issue finally posted more details today. I was skeptical - and still am, in all honesty (I'm "TheOldGit" on Reddit): Judge for yourself. btw - LamerDelux has already tried viewing it upside down and the lines were still present.
  12. I wouldn't know whith that set-up - plenty of guys here have got kit closer to yours, so I'm sure someone can help you (or look back through the thread, maybe?).
  13. Welcome to the club :)
  14. Absolutely - people have been saying they've done this and others have been unable to see anything. Which kind of puts the dampener on hopes for a 'fix'.
  15. For those who'd like more... https://old.reddit.com/r/ValveIndex/comments/cjhndo/index_headset_vertical_banding_through_the_lenses/
  16. Valve reckon it should go away as the headset warms up - this is the standard answer they are sending out. It doesn't though - not a single person of those who have said they have this issue have had it resolved. I did extensive investigations and testing in this regard - and came up with nothing. It made zero difference to the issue. Not just with my gaming gear - I also set up a completely different PC in a different location specifically to check for EMI effects and ran a number of tests and there was no change. There are credible sounding theories about the cause - but they are hardware based and I honestly don't know enough about LCD technology to be able to comment on them. PS - not that it matters for me, now. I have decided not to refund the headset (to buy another one later) which I was considering. Even with this issue, the headset is such a game changer for me that I will just hope for the best and in the meantime try to look past it. Literally.
  17. It's very obvious right in the SteamVR home - look on the wall, where your library is displayed. The light grey blocks would show it. Not everyone has it, though, apparently - some say every headset has it, but not veeryone can actually see it - but it's all conjecture, as no-one really knows. There's a picture here: Some geezer has turned up on Reddit, claiming to have found a software solution, but I think he's just baiting.
  18. Hey, guys - base station 2 firmware update today - stops the whining noise! Awesome one. :) @RedX - welcome to the club. Valve have said the vertical lines are "expected bahaviour" so they are not trying to fix it, as they say there is nothing wrong to fix. As for whether support would do a replacement, well they might - especially if you tell them it's particularly disrupting your gameplay, it's worth trying.
  19. Support is now trying to tell all those people (and there are a lot) who have this issue that it is expected, normal behaviour - which is just pure rubbish, as I told them, as have others. Anyway, I'm keeping my headset now - even with this issue, but told them if they do find a fix and it involves getting the headset replaced, then I expect them to replace my headset. If I really try I can mostly ignore it - though it does really stand out in high contrast scenes. Have a look at what this guy posted here (make the image full size to see it best): https://i.imgur.com/gFWLDs0.png Valve are just sending copy/paste replies to us now (like the one in my support ticket - see below) - they either don't realise or don't care how infuriating that is to those with this issue, but it's pretty much what I was expecting, at some stage. https://i.postimg.cc/NF8C2qyP/steamvrindex.jpg Onwards and upwards.... He says  :bye_3: edit: another little pointer: http://www.easypolls.net/poll.html?p=5d3de57ce4b027365670333c
  20. IPD shouldn't affect the clarity, only the FoV. Sweet spot may well be the issue. I agree that something is not quite right if he is not seeing a noticable improvement, though I didn't seem to have the issues most were with instrument clarity in the CV1, the S was definitely a step up and afaic the Index is even more (but at a price).
  21. Here's the promised video showing replacement of the throttle T1/T2 flip switch - especially for those whose part was damaged during delivery. Thanks to Virpil for sending out the replacement part.
  22. Someone tested it extensively on the Oculus forum and got issues when they left any part of either headset connected. In any case, if unplugging one, there is no time wasted in unplugging the other (my sockets are right next to each other - and I use the same USB socket for each headset) ;) Also, bearing in mind the current vertical lines issue , it's best to keep the Index as isolated as possible.
  23. Sorry if this has been covered - I just read yesterday on Reddit that Steam appears to have now accepted the issue with vertical lines needs addressing (rather than just sending out replacements which always end up having the same issue) and are looking into possible causes and fixes. If accurate, this is excellent news and I would definitely hang on to my replacement headset - though I still haven't heard back from them myself. btw - I've now got both Index and Rift CV1 set up on the same PC and having no issues. I only have the headset I'm currently using plugged in at one time. It does mean getting on my knees, crawling under a table and reaching round the back by feel, but not a big hassle under normal circumstances as I won't be doing it every day :) Best of both worlds.
  24. Okay I fixed it - details to follow shortly :) Well it seems Waterfox does have VR support - which atm I don't require. So - as suggested in the Oculus thread I typed About:config into the address bar, and got a warning that this voids the software warranty (wasn't even aware there was one, so no loss...) I continued and then entered "VR" into the search bar - this is what returned: Simply clicking on a line changes the value from "true" to "false" and vice-versa, so I did this: and that fixed it :) Thanks for the input.
  25. Already disabled - not a Big Screen fan. My thoughts, too, hence posting about it. Not just that - this is in Waterfox browser (a simplified, slimmed-down version of Firefox), which has no VR support and is what I use for general browsing and reading. I'll see if Firefox does the same, though I'm using installed Waterfox vs Firefox portable. I'll also try and find any info relating to Waterfox and SteamVR, might be some inconspicuous connection. Edit: - Just found this 2 year-old thread on the Oculus forum that shines some light on the subject: https://forums.oculusvr.com/community/discussion/51131/oculus-software-now-starts-with-every-browser-launch-why
