Just got the mail - mine's being delivered tomorrow. Not bad, that - collected by GLS just yesterday, so 2 days delivery. That would be about right for Netherlands to UK, but the other hardware I've ordered from Steam in the past usually took at least a week to arrive. I'll post if I have any issues - have to get my 2060 overclocked tomorrow - was missing some dll files before so Afterburner wouldn't work, but I reckon they must be on my system by now, with all the stuff I installed since yesterday.

X56 is reserved, pending payment. Graphics cards are sold.

It also appears (apparently, from Reddit reports) that those ordering individual items are being shuffled back in the queue, and those ordering the full kit are getting priority. Whilst some customers have received orders such as controllers only, they seem to be the minority, with many who ordered only the headset still waiting - even those who ordered it early doors. I reserved on May 5th. I see that the US is pretty much caught up on full kit orders - people are ordering and getting their kit within a couple of weeks (one even within days), whilst the EU has just moved on to May 4th onwards reservations - seems like all of the reserved kits after then are now being offered for payment. The lighthouse 2 units have been in stock for immediate purchase for a while now.

If you haven't used SteamVR you should be pretty safe. Many of the issues people seem to be having, going from a previous headset to Index is settings being left over from that older headset being applied to the Index, from the many, many posts I've read on Reddit. It didn't take me long to back up and reinstall Windows 10 - including the updates, maybe an hour (using an installer download for my specific PC a few months back, via my MS account). The O/S itself took minutes to install - it's the repeated updating that takes a bit more time. The most time is, of course, reinstalling anything you decide to chop along the way. I got my tracking info this morning and just checked - apparently on a truck in Holland. So hopefully have it by the weekend. Not so long to be without VR. I'll set up the CV1 on PC2 after I have decided to keep the Index - else I'll just put it back on the main rig. PS - troubleshooting thread on Reddit:

Motherboard Replacement Smooth Transition
Johnny Dioxin replied to Johnny Dioxin's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
As it happens, I only did this to check it was possible - yesterday I backed up all the necessaries and today I reinstalled from scratch. My Index is coming and I was contemplating doing a clean install anyway. Just have to redownload 168GB of DCS World modules. Thankfully I have fibre these days - but even at 74Meg connection it takes a few hours. Think it was a whole afternoon last time. Everything seemed to be working okay, but I wanted to clear out all traces of Oculus and related settings etc before installing the Index. -
Agreed. My Index has now been paid for - hope it doesn't take long to arrive, so I can do a Windows reinstall from scratch (having just replaced mobo and deactivated everything) - I'd install Rift on a 2nd PC then, so I know nothing is interfering with each VR system.

I did have some heart-stopping moments along the way, but I have just swapped a dodgy motherboard for a "new" one (it's new, but it's 6 year old tech - LGA 1150/Haswell) and it has gone extremely well. Windows 10 is, so I read, the only version where it's officially possible to renew the motherboard and not have to reinstall windows - and this has proved to be the case. Things didn't go completely as planned - I had cloned my 120GB Windows SSD onto a new 480GB SSD, but it refused to work. When I cloned my old SATA 3 mechanical HDD to the 120GB SSD it went perfectly, so I don't know what happened this time around. I also bought a wrong M2 SSD to PCIe card, so I can't use a lot of my software until the correct one comes. Minor points, though. When first booting on the new motherboard, I got the Windows 10 loading screen and the loading circle thing just went on and on for about half an hour - so I rebooted and that time I got a message that the relevant updates and drivers were being loaded, which took a couple of minutes and voila! Sorted. Really pleased, but the big test will be when I run DCS World and VR (I can't run them until tomorrow as my saved games folder is on that drive which I ordered the wrong adapter for). I used my account info to find the low down on my activations left etc, but was a bit confused because most of the modules shown as requiring Starforce activation (i.e. with a number) I couldn't find any evidence of a protect file anywhere (such as the MiG-21) -so we'll see what happens. I'll report back on how well that goes. Short & simple = duff mobo? Don't worry about slapping a new one in. :)

In that case, the tweaks must be working very well! I've changed nothing from my usual settings for VR. Be interesting to see how it runs on my Index, too, but I think this is possibly the best and smoothest scenery I've seen in my Rift CV1. Looks like I'll be flying a lot more in PG, then.
-
I've no idea what the exact location is (the city), but it has some very remarkable features: Persian Gulf hasn't had any VR performance updates, I think, so I'm even more astounded that things ran so smoothly.
-
I've read a lot of posts by people complaining of washed-out textures on Index, but there are apparently simple fixes. So if yours seems that way - don't give up and return it, just look for the fixes (which IIRC include doing a verify of SteamVR files)
-
You can fly in DCS using a streaming program like ALVR or Virtual desktop. The sim runs on your PC just like any other VR game, but it is streamed to the headset via 5GHz WiFi (so you have to have a good router). Some have had issues with it, some haven't. Those who try it usually say it's pretty awesome. There can be restrictions, of course, based on battery life (though some say you can just keep it plugged in the charger/USB). It wouldn't be ideal, but would be about the only option left.
-
That does it for me, then. I can get my 2060 up to just over standard 1080 speeds, but that's the lot. Reverb was my second choice if the Index didn't cut it, but looks like I'd have to go for the Quest and rely on Steam streaming. Shame.

Has anyone done the Su-25 Dogfight (1v1) mission in the Rift CV1? It takes place over a city in PG - and I've been reading all sorts of comments about poor performance when low over PG cities. I ask because I had zero issues at all in VR whilst flying down to just below the roofs of the highest blocks in the city (I actually won the dogfight when I chased the enemy Su-25 down and he flew into a block). I was surprised at how smooth it was, considering the comments and my relatively medium-specced rig. I'd been avoiding flying PG since I bought it a few months back, due to the comments. Was going to try once I'd overclocked my RTX2060 - but no need, it seems.

Hi Pappavis - loooong time no see :) (about 13 years, I think) Cuplla quick points on your post - 1st, you don't have to put Oculus Home on your C drive - you can choose where to put it, and then choose a different drive to that for your games. (mine are on E: and M: drives). Also - for large IPD Rift S is quite poor, due to a much narrower FoV. I agree with everything you said, though - but I didn't like the audio (like you said, it's tinny and I really don't like that on any audio). Guess you'll be doing a lot of VR flying now you can see properly!

Das überrascht mich nicht!

What I find hilarious is that the guy keeps saying how rubbish VR is, yet he hangs out in the VR section so much. :megalol:
-
Is anyone running one on anything less than a 2080 or 1080 and getting acceptable framerates and clarity? This is what has made me discount getting one, as I'm happy to continue using CV1 for roomscale games.
-
Very encouraging. I'm still checking my email more times a day than I care to remember - can't be long now. I know the image will be at least as good as my Rift S was, and that's good enough - it's just a question of how high I'll be able to push the refresh rate. The only way I'll know that is when I have one on my head - but I'm going to do a complete clean install of Windows and DCS World prior to installing the Index to be sure it doesn't get messed up by anything lingering, which shouldn't be. Getting some new hardware anyway, plus new and larger SSDs, with the cost having plummeted of late. I'll set up the CV1 on my old PC as a back-up, so I don't have the two VR systems interfering with each other. Can't be long now.
-
I'm sure you'll be encouraged to hear that I actually run out of assignments long before I run out of inputs with the HOTAS. The first time this has been the case.
-
Personally I take that witha pinch of salt. I'll see for myself when mine arrives, but those who are using it as intended by Valve are saying they have no issues with the no clicking. Anyway -as this is the Reverb thread, that's enough Index talk from me.
-
Well this topic has wandered quite a way from it's subject, but I'd like to get it back on track by saying that I am thoroughly enjoying my CM throttle and the more I get used to it's large array of inputs, the more I enjoy it. Especially now that I have it mounted in the ideal position for comfort as well. There are a couple of minor things that disturb me when using the CM2 stick, but I can live with them- and this thread is about the throttle, anyway, so...
-
Guy just posted in the Index reddit saying he has zero issues with racing and flight sims. Or anything else...
-
That's not quite right - the designation does come from Virpil - look in the store and you will see (and especially in the configurator software - it's the only way you can tell it exactly which device model you have). The throttle is currently designated T50CM and the latest stick is T50CM2
-
Hi Cypher - I really like the new configurator software - thanks for doing that! All I have to do now is remember to change the profile - I have a terrible memory these days. It's a shame there needs to be a third virtual device with the single input - but if it's the price for having seperate devices, I can live with it. The best thing was, after making the firmware updates (for CM throttle and CM2 stick) and making the 3 device profile for the throttle, I could then go back to my single device profile and keep all my assignments for DCS World and IL-2 that I had made prior to the updates. Nice work.

Gees, you guys, have never heard of resizing before uploading?
