  1. What are the current night vision options? I just looked on the DCS pages for the Ka-50 and it says the OVN-1 is available, but can't find it anywhere in the control options. (Except the switch on the back wall, which I assumed referred to the NVG tolerant VC lighting). https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/products/helicopters/black_shark/?PAGEN_1=3 Not flown in 2.5 at night yet, so... If it's not working, that would be a nice addition, too
  2. Hi - no, I don't have the software installed at all as I think it's more trouble than it's worth. I always assign the controls directly in the sim. This also gives me the option to change anything on the spot, while I'm flying, if I want to. You should put these files into the ...Saved Games\DCS\Config\Input\SA342\joystick folder and it will then work with all variants of the Gazelle. Once you have put the files into that folder, go into the sim and bring up the controller UI in options. Select the SA342 from the drop-down menu and it should display "All" controls. I highly recommend that you first delete each of the profiles (for the X55 stick and throttle) before importing these profiles. DCS has a habit of leaving default controls in that you don't want if you just import without clearing out the old stuff first. Just click on any empty space in the X55 stick column and then select to delete the assignments (or profile - don't remember the exact wording). Then select to import profile and point the selection to the relevant files. Do the same with the X55 throttle. You then need to set the two modifiers I mentioned. On the same UI screen, click on the modifier button (bottom left iirc) and a box comes up. You need to choose the right controller (X55 stick) then press the pinky button on the stick. It should come up in the box as Button 5. Then type in the name "pinky" and OK. Then do the same with the throttle, but this time type "perky". After you have done this, there should be no red highlighted lines anywhere on the controller UI. Scroll through it just to check. I would advise then just checking your axis UI as well, to make sure it is how you want it and to make any axis changes or tuning you require. Seems a lot but it's really very simple. You don't need to pm this - I'm quite happy for anyone to use it, and the info may help them, too :) Any further questions or problems, just ask.
  3. This is completely untrue. I've never had "the fastest rigs in every respect" Every other sim I have had I have run on high settings and had excellent performance - including VR - whilst wondering what people with performance woes were complaining about (also including 1.5.8 ) All my rigs have been at the top end of the medium performance range. Never had a top of the range CPU, RAM, Motherboard and only once had a top of the range GPU as it was about to be replaced by the new DX10 cards.. I can't afford such things. So that statement is complete hogwash.
  4. Looking nice - just need a Central America map now... :)
  5. Okay - as always, I have used two modifiers, "pinky" and "perky" (please note that you need to type them in small letters) These need to be set by yourself to make the profiles work in the sim (If you don't know how to set modifiers just ask). They are both for button 5 on each controller, as shown in the diagrams. Always press the modifier before the action button. There are also lots of spare buttons/switches. I tend to use the cockpit controls a lot more in VR than I did on a monitor, so I have less assignments than normal. If you use the VR UI Layer controls, then you need to set the modifiers in that profile, too. Until you set modifiers, the assignments will be highlighted in red in the controls UI. You can just delete any you don't want, of course. Daigrams below, profiles attached (I included the diagrams in the archive, too). If you don't understand any of my abbreviations, just shout :) I have used axes with modifiers, too, as seen with the radio volume and NADIR brightness controls. The controls shown in turquoise on the panel sheet are those I have assigned to my MFDs - so they are not included. You could assign them to the spare buttons or not, whatever ya like. Please also note that the twist joystick is not assigned to the rudder, as I have pedals, but you could easily do that yourself. Hope it's useful - have fun :)
  6. Then don't use it - and don't talk rubbish. If you want to troll (why else would you be posting that here?) - kindly do it elsewhere. Short list appreciated.
  7. Got an X56 one - though it is optimised for VR.
  8. Have they stated this or is there any proof? I ask because they have always said the vast majority are playing single player (and Flaming Cliffs aircraft are more popular)
  9. I don't know if they still work in 2.5, but last year I went flying =STP= Dragon's old training and combat missions with the A-10C in a small online group and it was really good fun - in fact I did it with two separate groups so I had double the fun! They are old missions, but everything seemed to work very well still. Like I said, whether they are okay in 2.5 I don't know - but it's definitely worth a try. You can do them in SP, too https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=68802 https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=71655 Yes - first made in 2011 and still working in 2017! :shocking: Maybe still working in 2018?? :dunno: Might need saving in the current mission editor first. I'll definitely give them a try myself as soon as I have some time for it.
  10. I'm not going to play silly quotes but what I said about how many vehicles are destroyed is entirely correct. You are talking about a specific vehicle, which is not the same thing. Like I said - it's about pouring firepower onto the area. You can't aim at a soldier with a rocket to take him out! It's an area weapon and this is how you use it to destroy such enemies and succeed. As for "knowing where the enemy is is cheating" is a pretty silly thing to come out with. Okay - so fail the mission and then never fly it again, because it would be cheating, as you know what is going to happen. That must be valid for evey single mission that you have flown once. By your definition you are cheating by even attempting it a second time - or do you have some magic switch that makes you forget everything you've seen before? It has been flown in 2.5 it has been completed in 2.5 Listen up, I can try and help you and you can continue to try and pick holes in that and pretend to be so clever, or you can just keep on failing and blaming anything but yourself, but I'm finished here because you're not worth the effort.
  11. I couldn't see that much of the enemy in previous versions anyway - it's just a case of saturating the target area.
  12. The mission is not impossible to complete - others have said they completed it, and I have - several times, so saying that is just disinformation. You know what's coming by now and you know where it is coming from. Initially I found it difficult, too - though how many vehicles get destroyed is not a fixed thing. You need a certain amount to survive to get a mission success - I think I got 4 or 5 through once and got success. Like I said - you know where the ambush is coming from, so be prepared to attack that area. I flew along normally to it - but I am a bit ahead of the convoy. I position myself for a rocket run - if you shoot up the area before they shoot at the convoy (and kill Sergey) it will count for nothing. So - wait until the first contact (don't remember if it is the enemy firing or the call that its an ambush) and then immediately start raining rockets on the area where the bad guys are. It's all about laying down firepower. Turn around and do a second run-in, by which time your wingman should be about ready to help - then just hang around the area above the road and poor cannon rounds on the remaining baddies. IIRC a second lot appear after you have killed off the first attackers. I had similar frustrations as you guys - but once I had succeeded the first time, using this method, I did it every time. Edit: I remember once being shot down by the "Golden AK-47" - it's just bad luck if that happens. Edit 2: The place I position myself for the first rocket attack is well to the right of the valley at the point of the ambush. I'll find some old screenies. From an AAR I posted: As the recce vehicle rounds the bend, he is immeditaely hit by an RPG-7 AT weapon, fired from within the trees to port - we react immediately with a barrage of rockets The remainder of the convoy rolls into sight - their orders are to push on through, rather than take up defensive positions, and they, too, come under fire we pull back a short distance and make a full run-in, firing off multiple volleys of rockets as we close on the geurillas I close in to finish off any remaining enemy with the cannon Looks like we took out any manpad-toting geurillas with our first strike - a good thing, else the result could have looked very different. Only 5 vehicles survived - enough for a successful mission... The pics are from 1.2 (yeah - a while ago now) but the tactics are the same now.
  13. Please delete - I'm sure it will get moved/deleted or whatever, so...
  14. You did press the "VAL" button? This is what actually kicks off the alignment process and starts the countdown. I do believe that ED have not yet implemented IFF properly - so it doesn't matter what you do, it won't work anyway, or it will be an on/off generic function. Not entirely sure of the current state of IFF. The info is there in case you are instructed to set it in a mission briefing (for procedural realism). As BD said - make sure the fuel cut-off is definitely disabled and ensure the throttle is off before you even start setting the switches for start-up. I've not had the issue you are having, so I don't know what else to suggest. I've had a break from DCS for a few months and one of the first aircraft I flew on return was the Mirage and I used my guide for the procedure and it all worked as it should. You're welcome - I can understand your frustration but do stick with it, because it is well worth it :) If you could save a track of your attempted start-up and attach it to a post, we'd have a better chance of seeing where you are going wrong. Good luck, anyway. PS - Dave, have a quick look here: Hope that will help you.
  15. If anyone wants they can access my pictorial start-up guide. It was for the kneeboard, but you can also access it on a tablet or phone whilst going through the procedure on the PC: LINK Doesn't fix any issues with the training missions, but might help you get the aircraft started and/or INS aligned.
  16. Be nice to have some in the sim (loose surface runways, not PC-24 )
  17. I disagree, but I'm not going to argue. I use the trim less now than I ever have before (unrealistic, apparently) except in the Ka-50. I don't use it at all in the Gazelle, Huey or Hip.
  18. Well I have to admit I had a big surprise in DCS 2.5 this evening. I decided to have another go and set the 'system' options to VR - didn't change a thing, just clicked the VR button. Gamma is set at 1.7 I ran the Hornet start-up tutorial first - that went fine. I then jumped into a Hornet mission (Hornet - Nalchik Strike) and it ran flawlessly in VR. Okay, so the scenery looked like LOMAC, but that doesn't overly bother me in a combat mission. I didn't take it as far as the combat, though, as I've no idea what I'm doing in the Hornet, as yet. I then jumped into an Su-25T mission (PeteTrainingSu25T). Again, the scenery was a bit plain looking - and the AI models were all a bit naff, mostly due to gamma, shimmering and jaggies. The Mirage 2000C did look great, though, despite this. I counted 16 AI aircraft airborne, all in the Kutaisi/Kobuleti area, with unknown number of ground units also active and yet the performance was still well within the acceptable range. No stutters, freezes or the like (with the exception of when I pressed the Print Screen key - a fraction of a second's pause each time). So - there is hope yet! :) That's an i5 4690k @ 4.3GHz with 16GB 2133 RAM and the GTX 1060 6GB - oh, and this all running from an old SATA 1 hard drive! Load times were no worse than they have been over the last couple of years with 1.5 The screens look a little better, of course, as they are from the monitor - but not far off:
  19. @wormeaten - I disagree about Leap Motion. I'm not saying Captoglove looks or would work any better - I won't get it myself - but I've used Lm for years, or rather I've had it for years, having bought it specifically for use with FlyInside and not used it since the last LM integration update test I did (was on YT at the time, but I closed the channel). The problem with LM - and may well be an issue with Captoglove, too - is having the space around you to reach and operate the switches and controls in the virtual cockpit. I was forever bashing my hands on various hardware in my simpit. There were certain switches I was just unable to get to at all with my virtual hand because they were just the other side of my real throttle quadrant. Right now I still prefer the headlook cursor control, though I would like it refined more. I feel that for something like LM or Captoglove you need the sort of space around you that you need for VTOL VR (which has an entire virtual cockpit around you, including HOTAS) - and that just isn't feasable for DCS World atm imo. Not unless you want to use it just like VTOL VR and use all virtual controls - which I wouldn't want in any case. I have tried it and don't like it. There has to be a minimum of physical feedback for a sim.
  20. Does the X55 have the same spring choice as the X56? I use an X56 with the strongest spring and it's the best control of helicopters I've had. Didn't make any adjustments to the axis tuning. Some use an extension - which you can get hold of for these HOTAS, but it isn't that easy. I had one for the Warthog and it made a nice difference, but I haven't felt the need for one with the X56. Maybe try smaller stick movements?

Right - I' ve just had a look at the procedure. Whilst it all works just fine in the training mission (1.5.8 ) it doesn't quite go according to plan in practice. However, the linked pictorial guide (and the text one in there, too) do seem to be correct, as per the tutorial available. The thing I would add is to release the parking brake before attempting to taxi - and I don't know how the module is currently behaving for others, but in my Hawk the steering is back to front. Left foot forward = rudder left = turn right! And vice-versa. There's also no mention of setting up the lights and radios, but that is pretty simple in any case. Good luck! PS - I forgot - you may also find that the HYD warning lights don't like extinguishing much, either ;)

Hi rephiled - a couple of years ago I did a few start-up guides in pictorial form that you can have appear in your kneeboard. I did cover the Hawk - but I know there have been some changes since then, although I think it's very easy to see what to do in those cases. I'll check the Hawk guide and maybe make one or two simple changes (this is for start-up only, until the module is declared feature complete) and update the guide as necessary. It's very useful in VR - if you have a look at this video I made a few days ago in the Ka-50 I am using the same utility: https://youtu.be/jZYClMqXgiU?t=4m7s Here's a link to the current (older) guide: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1t5-ZlohiEIffFzL-F-tXWiLJ26_Z6__I?usp=sharing You would download the folder then copy the contents to: C:\Users\*username*\Saved Games\DCS\Kneeboard\Hawk then you can access it with the kneeboard controls in sim. You may have a bit to scroll through first, as usually all the maps are shown on the kneeboard as well, but I find this tool invaluable in many modules either on the monitor or especially in VR
