Huge performance hit between Caucasus and NTTR
fltsimbuff replied to Fred00's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
I usually ended up turning that off in the FC3 aircraft where it was on by default... with both hands already on throttle and stick, I'd sometimes bump the mouse sending my view somewhere random. I've joined the TrackIR ranks now though, and it is working pretty well. -

Had a chance to try it out a bit. Gives me a bit of a crick in the neck, but definitely much better than trying to use the POV hat. I was holding out for the consumer version of the Oculus Rift, but ED has forced my hand with the beautiful Nevada map. I need to see the sights now... Yep, 1080p. -

Very briefly. I watched it again and caught it at slightly above 60 when facing the airport. And yeah, I pretty much have a neck collar on. But my TrackIR just got delivered... -

Sample I am running a 4970K with a GTX970 G1 Gaming card (Gigabyte, overclocked), and here's an example where you can see the FPS in the upper-right. (Don't make fun of my terrible Huey piloting) I had everything turned up except view distance was Ultra, not Extreme. It stayed above 70FPS -
A long wait, a long time downloading but was it worth it ???

Road Trip! Last night I took SR160 from Las Vegas to Pahrump in a HMMWV with a .50 mounted on top. I was surprised by how detailed this is even at ground level. I have a brother that lives in Las Vegas. I might have to try to find his neighborhood... -
Iraq *had* a truly integrated Air Defense network. Mostly Russian built and French-integrated. That was dealt with by cruise missiles and Apaches coming in low, taking out the I part of the equation in the first hours of the war. It may have looked easy, but it was really the epitome of the Soviet IADS strategy that so many countries still rely on today.

I would like to see Canada remain in the F-35 program even if the US has to somewhat subsidize it. With tensions heating back up, it would be nice to have some 5th-gen fighters covering near the arctic. While we have F-22s in Alaska, they can't really cover further East over the North Pole.

I wonder when it will be released the EF-111a raven
fltsimbuff replied to paidapinga's topic in DCS Core Wish List
Sadly, I seriously doubt we will see any E- variants of any aircraft in DCS. Electronic warfare is heavily dependent on secrecy and thus there is not enough information out there to realistically reproduce it. It would also require radar to be accurately simulated so that the requisite jamming techniques could be simulated. It would be cool to have, but I won't hold my breath, knowing the challenges involved. -
Go into the notch and get out of its "basket" before it goes active. I've had a lot of luck avoiding AIM-54Cs in an A-10C, so it should be pretty easy in a fighter.

I am on a fast M2 SSD, and an i7 running at 4GHz and it takes about 10 seconds for the splash screen to load. According to process monitor it spends that time loading luas and textures for all installed modules. I am just more careful now clicking the icon and let it take its time. It is more than worth it once it starts up :).

It probably has more to do with it not being a high-fidelity model. If you notice, all of the ones with dedicated sub-forums are the full-featured ones with clickable cockpits. It would be odd to treat the Su-25T the same as those.

This takes some tweaking of the curve to get it working well. Too slow and it takes too long to slew/search the target area and too fast and it is tough to point precisely. I spent a lot of time setting mine up for the best balance (the tiny slew control is not precise enough to be perfect). I need to do that again for 1.5 OB still, but I've been putting it off for the fun stuff.

I tend to use manual myself, unless I have no Wingmen or friendlies around. Keep in mind though that the default profile that is selected only seems to dispense chaff, so you'll want to change to something appropriate. Regarding missile launches, it also helps to maintain situational awareness. If the MLWS indicates the missile launch at your 3 O'clock and there are no friendlies to that side of you, then you should assume it is hostile. The key is knowing where all the units you make contact with are located and keeping track of them.

That's not the only reason. Intel has a huge advantage in R&D budget and semiconductor facilities. http://techreport.com/news/28033/report-amd-r-d-spending-falls-to-near-10-year-low

Random numbers at end of post problem
fltsimbuff replied to tovivan's topic in Forum and Site Issues
Very very odd. I can't think of any reason a virus would do this (at least, intentionally). Possibly a firefox plugin? Does it do this in other browsers? (try IE?) -
Yes, this... AMD has done awesome things for consumers in both the Processor and Graphics markets. I prefer Intel/nVidia these days, but AMD keeps things marching forward and keeps prices down. When I was on a budget, their Duron and Athlon CPUs were great too. I would be sad to see AMD falter.

You mean like the Strait of Hormuz thread they are also well underway working on? http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=129972

Random numbers at end of post problem

Tone was joking with that (42 is a reference). What are you using to post? What browser/system? Are you using a phone? Do you have something set up as a signature on your profile? -
Since my GTX970 was getting 120FPS on highest settings, I went ahead and expanded this to all 3 monitors at 5760x1080. Looks beautiful and averaging 50FPS. I would really like to know how well this works with Oculus Rift...

I had expected a significant improvement in both visuals and performance given the updates, but this... 120 FPS at 1080p with everything turned up... That is just awesome!

Quick reminder about download rates... This appears to be reporting in MB/s, whereas most connections are measured in Mb/s. There are 8Mb in 1 MB, and with TCP/IP overhead you can usually multiple MB/s x 10 to get the Mb/s. So my ~25Mbps cable is downloading at 2.1MB/s, which is around 21Mbps.

You guys are cyber-stalking an app repository... That's just weird :P

My guess would be that damaged the gear. It's a 15 ton warplane, not an ATV ;) I am thinking the ground damage modeling is probably necessarily simplistic too (though it does seem to handle realistically in most situations).
