Operation "Blue Flag" - 24/7 PvP Campaign - ROUND 5
RoflSeal replied to gregzagk's topic in Multiplayer
Neither do they represent 85 degree FoV on 1080p, 24" monitor, especially when 1920*1080 is about 9*5 degrees in real life assuming resolution of 0.3 arcminute -
Operation "Blue Flag" - 24/7 PvP Campaign - ROUND 5
RoflSeal replied to gregzagk's topic in Multiplayer
Disagree massively on the zoom. Real fighter pilots are not restricted to 1920*1080p pixels. -
I would imagine currently no, since T.5 map engine (Straight of Hormuz and after) is supposed have dynamic mesh technology (so supposedly bomb craters). Otherwise I think there can be scripts in multiplayer where if the runway gets bombed, you can't spawn at the airfield anymore.

i5 Sandybridge still does the bizz...
RoflSeal replied to Johnny Dioxin's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Better to use DCS Benchmarks http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=157374 Sandybridge 20fps avg lower at baseclock compared to Skylake and 15fps at 4GHz Also remember Sandybridge has max RAM speed of 2133Mhz. Increase to 3200mhz you get extra avg 10fps -
If they were, I wouldn't expect them to be packaged for 60 dollars. Each of the three harriers (GR.9, AV-8B(NA)/+) are significantly different in terms of avionics.

[Re-Poll] MiG-29A as a free airplane for DCS:W
RoflSeal replied to TheFurNinja's topic in DCS Core Wish List
I think that comes every time when you have people coming in. A certain portion will get hooked, another certain portion won't like whatever it is. -
[Re-Poll] MiG-29A as a free airplane for DCS:W
RoflSeal replied to TheFurNinja's topic in DCS Core Wish List
But what if you bought 6 car pack and you never use 1 of them. Would you care if the dealer started giving that 1 for free. I know its a silly analogy, because people don't buy cars in packs, but then again FC3 aircraft come in a bundle and only 2 of those are aircraft are used seriously (F-15 and Su-27), whilst the Su-33 and MiG-29S populations are due to increase when their PFM gets released, I don't see the masses going to the MiG-29A/G. Honestly the best analogy to this is when we were young and played trading card game, you don't care if someone is giving away crap/non-rare/non-special cards for free eventhough you already have got those cards in the packs you bought because those cards are of little value to you, but hey, if your friend gets them that could be a basis of a deck for them to play with you. In the same way the MiG-29A/G add little to no value to the FC3 pack, but if you offer one as free, it could entice people in. -

DCS: F-14A/A+/B by Heatblur Simulations coming to DCS World!
RoflSeal replied to Cobra847's topic in DCS: F-14A & B
With the F-14 its pretty impossible to use it in combat without a RIO. -
It's both, but it has FLIR camera at the front to allow night missions.

i7 2600 is not overclockable whilst the i5 4690K is. DCS benefits a lot from overclocking and doesn't take advantage of hyperthreading that i7 CPUs have (Basically DCS performance doesn't increase after 4 threads). So 4690K is the better choice for DCS, especially if you can OC it, however if you are planning to run at stock speeds, the 2600 should be adequate. Btw here are DCS benchmarks comparing 2600K and 4670K at stock speeds (with a GTX 970). 4670K and 4690K are basically the same chip but with different Thermal Interface Material, so with 4690K you should be able to slightly overclock better. 2600K is running at stock speeds so it should have similar performance to 2600 And more benchmarks http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=157374

That is such a gripping after action report.

[Re-Poll] MiG-29A as a free airplane for DCS:W
RoflSeal replied to TheFurNinja's topic in DCS Core Wish List
I honestly don't see how people throw such a fit over the A or G possibly becoming free planes. They are not exactly capable especially the G compared the SU-27, F-15 or MiG-29C. But a fast aircraft, that is easy and fun to fly can definately draw people in (and it won't draw in CoD kids, they haven't heard of DCS anyway). Su-25T the most fun aircraft to fly, handles like a pig. And I don't gain anything from a free MiG-29A/G, I have FC3 already, and I never touch them. ED has every right to charge for every update, if they do the however, playerbase will cliffdive. -
I'm pretty sure that's wrong P-47 was nicknamed the Jug (either from the razorback variants which looked like a milk jug propped vertical or short for Juggernaut) F-84 was nicknamed the Hog or Ground Loving Whore due to its really long take-off.

AJS Viggen can also act as 70s aircraft if you don't use some weapons like BK 90

Universal Model Visibility Setting Mod
RoflSeal replied to Why485's topic in Utility/Program Mods for DCS World
This mod is really great and I urge ED to follow on this line of development of the imposter system. -
Why aren't there today any real good joysticks?
RoflSeal replied to FlightControl's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Aye, there are good sticks on the market Low end T.16000M and probably the new VKB gladiator series sticks. High End TM Warthog/CH/VKB Other low end sticks (I have had 3d Pro and Saitek Cyborg 5) tend to wear out after 6 months daily use and Saitek sticks in general seem to be a lottery from what I've heard on X52 and especially X55, no QA at all. What is disappointingly absent in the market however are force feedback sticks, which is a shame since even low end steering wheels have force feed back -
Saitek X-55 Rhino H.O.T.A.S, advices
RoflSeal replied to Lenux's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
You could try looking at CH products. They are extremely reliable with some people having had them for 20+ years though they have less precision (256 position, don't confuse with accuracy). Both CH stick and Warthog though don't have twist stick, so you have to look at rudder pedals (though if you only fly modern jets, the analog mini-stick on the CH Throttle should actually be good enough) -
[Re-Poll] MiG-29A as a free airplane for DCS:W
RoflSeal replied to TheFurNinja's topic in DCS Core Wish List
Because there are 3 MiG-29, which are pretty much the same as each other with the exception of different weapon loadouts. MiG-29A/G having the most restricted loadouts. I don't think the PFM of the 3 MiGs are going have significant differences if any at all. -

I honestly wouldn't mind a free MiG-29A or G, a manoeuvrable jet could definitely bring people in -
Relative performance of the Mustang, the 109 and the 190
RoflSeal replied to Reflected's topic in DCS: P-51D Mustang
You are the one going in circles with "oh its not historical", "oh it doesn't need to be balanced" "oh it's not an airquake game" (ironic since the most popular server, the 104th is an airquake server). From a historical and realistic basis there is no reason to not have 72" available to the Mustang. -

I honestly don't know how you can say 120 extra horsepower, especially at the altitudes ingame, can not help, with a straight face. -

Relative performance of the Mustang, the 109 and the 190
RoflSeal replied to Reflected's topic in DCS: P-51D Mustang
Made a difference 0-3000(up to 11000ft RAM) in the first stage and 8000-22000 (up to 27000ft RAM) in 2nd stage. Considering ingame battles take place below 6000ft, I regard it as quite a difference. -

About 120hp difference in max power http://www.wwiiaircraftperformance.org/mustang/V-1650-3_7_power_curve.jpg
