Whats you strategy to keep track of moving targets with the TGP?
Ayindi replied to Ayindi's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
Thanks for your input! :) Well situational awareness is a problem thats right. While I basically have an idea where my target should be in the area (so basically I think I would be able to roughly point my finger on it if asked) I think its still not easy to "map" this easily to the TGP. My tactics is to use the TGV (not 100% sure about the name - the small square in the hud to point my TGP to the right direction in front of me) So what I get from your answers is basically that I was more or less on the right track... :) There seems nothing I am missing, it just requires patience and practice. (like fly another NM away from the target to give you a little extra time finding it again) or flying parallel to it. I know I can see the SPI generator in the bottom left of my screen, but it actually takes really much thinking for me to figure it out... :D I guess its just practice, practice and even more practice... ;) -
Hi, I sometimes have issues to keep track of targets especially when they are moving and I am wondering how you guys handle it. Maybe I can get some hints or maybe just confirm that its a hassle sometimes...:D Basically, I have issues when I fly over the target turn around and then usually the TGP focus is lost and I have to find my target again. I guess this happens because the TGP tracks things visually so it cannot track them when it cant see them. So only when not masked and within gimbal limits. What I usually do is set a markpoint and go from there searching it again meaning that if I need too much time finding it again (usually its ok, because the targets did not move far from the point) I have to turn around again... rinse and repeat... I think the markpoint is the only thing that will really stay at that point since the SPI will also move sometimes (I am still not sure, what the rules for let call it "unwanted SPI movement" is - does it have to do with masked/gimbal limits as well?) In flat areas this is usually no big issue, but in the mountains it can become a real hassle. So I'd like to know if you have any hints or how you do it. :) Thanks!

I'd say if someone has ANY plans of "seriously" flying the A10C in DCS this campaign is a must have! Adds like 100% more content to the A10C module with a good storyline (not that I am far into it, yet :P ) but it gives you 21 very well designed missions, while the build in Missions from the A10C module dont seem very realistic to me...

I am also quite satisfied with the Track Clip Pro. Yes, quite fragile but I think its "ok". Accuracy is a little better than with the passive reflector. Maybe its really my setup that does not play very nice with the delan clip. As said I use some "strange" zoom settings for the MFDs. Probably not for everyone, but works fine for me. Once I play Elite Dangerous I will try if this works better with the Delan Clip. It has much more relaxed settings.
-
I attached a screenshot. Maybe it makes is a little more clear. It seems that the Delan Clip is the "center" and not assumed to be on the right or left side of my head. it behaves as if I would turn my head around the Delan Clip and not the other way... Also tried "standard" precision, but no impact. From the camera view everything is detected perfectly fine. It just seems that it is not interpreted correctly. If I could somehow plug the delan Clip in front and center of my face everything would be fine... :megalol: PS just by the way of course I centered via the appropriate key before doing the screenshots! ;)

Thanks for your input guys. First, I think I cannot change the dimensions for the Track Clip / Delan Clip as far as I know (I expect that this is the problem) I know that that this is possible for the Free Track Software, but I guess the Track IR guys did not include this in their software not wanting to support 3rd party solutions... :( Also some guides to build your own "active clip" mention to exactly copy the ProClip dimensions so I think this is probably of some importance. Using the Track IR camera view shows three perfect dots, that seems fine. I use the precision mode. To be honest I cannot say if I placed the Delan Clip left or right, I have to look this up... :D I did not mount it to a Headset, but to a baseball cap. But if I remember correctly I also tried both sides by just holding it against my left / right side of the head. If I place it on the left side, I think movement to left was ok, but when moving it to the right it starts strongly moving with the z-axis (or wise versa not sure). It seems logical to me since the bottom LED does move "more in 3d space" than the standard ProClip. Therefor I can understand this behavior. However, I wonder that you do not notice this. Maybe you dont use such strong z-axis movement settings as I do. I did set the forward movement pretty agressively so zoom into the MFDs without moving my head too far forward.
-
Just a remark using the delan clip instsead of the Track Clip Pro. I bought it as well but it does not work as expected. It is detected without any flaw. However, the third (bottom) LED light is like 6 mm "nearer" to the IR camera as the original bottom LED light from the Track Clip Pro. This results in a severe Z-Axis Movement when I just turn my head. I think this comes from the different dimensions. You could work around this by setting a big deadzone for the z-axis, but this will basically criple all z-axis movement. This may be ok for some, but I use it to "zoom" in on my A10 MFDs.

The Enemy Within DLC
Ayindi replied to baltic_dragon's topic in A-10C The Enemy Within Campaign (legacy version)
Yes I know that I can create a waypoint and/or markpoint and did this. (after some tries... -.-) :) However, this is just some feedback to make the missions "better" or to iron out some things that have not been realized so far. I think in reality I would expect that the waypoints are directly at the outposts and not above them? Not sure though... Ah and by the way there is not JTAC in this mission! :) -

One question about the second Hammerfall mission. (Patrol) I think its the fifth overall mission. Is it intended that the ECHO Outposts all have an EL of 10000? I would suppose that it should point at the outpost and not above it?! The reason I am askin is because I have some problems finding appropriate targets. My intention is to select the attacked ECHO outpost and "start from there to find my targets with the TGP". However since the actual WP is above it and there are mountains it is quite difficult to find the street and go to the appropriate direction from there (dont want to spoil too much... ;) ) It always seem that I have a mountain in my face before I can actually find something... ;) -
@hegykc I already have TrackIR5, but would also be interested in your solution because of the wireless construction. Just one remark: it would be great if you would consider some "baseball cap mount" for this. (maybe even as some extra paid accessoire?) I personally dont like wearing a headset all the time, but would love to be able to mount an "active IR LED" item (not just the reflectors that the TrackIR construction provides for a basevall cap) to a baseball cap. (even more when this item is wireless, like your construction) Additionally, if you would consider this it would be great if it would be possible to wear the baseball cap with the sunshade backwards. I personally dont really like having it in my field of view so I would wear the cap backwards if I could... :)

If its "just" for support how about the Nevada map? I think one day it will be must have buy anyways... ;) Since you seem to stick more to the modern aircrafts like I do I would suggest the Mirage. Dont have it, but since we seem to have similar interests I would buy the Mirage. :) The L-39 has some use in Multiplayer for teamplay, but other than that its more or less a trainer with not much use in my opinion. (Actually I dont understand why people buy rather "simple" trainer aircrafts... but anyways... ;) )

Saitek X-55 Rhino H.O.T.A.S, advices
Ayindi replied to Lenux's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
The ghosting can be solved by using an active USB hub. (or maybe an USB3 port?) As far as I have read it, this is a result of too low voltage from unpowered USB2 ports which will cause the ghosting. I have returned mine, but it was not too bad actually. Nevertheless I dont regret I have spent more for a Warthog + pedals. The X55 Throttle is not "smooth" enough using it as collective for a helicopter in my opinion. It "sticks" too much. There are some ways to fix this by DIY actions, but this will void your warranty. If you stick with planes, you are fine, but I'd give this a definitive nogo if there is any chance you want to fly a helicopter with it. -

Interesting! Thanks for your input, guys! :) Would like to hear what baltic_dragon's intent on this was since I am interested to use the editor to create some missions as well! :) -
The Enemy Within DLC

Hmm I thought it means wind "heading" 069 so in this direction? :D I might also remember that there is a difference in the editor an the sim (heading / bearing interchanged or so?) However, in either case something is wrong. Either ATC tells you to take off in the "wrong direction" or the last Waypoint at least "suggests" to land in the wrong direction. Am I correct to say that in reality you would take off and land in the same direction? -

Hi, some feedback for mission 04 (Hammerfall part 1) - I'm missing a map of the overall flight path during the briefing. I started the mission without really knowing where the Mosque actually is. I just get a picture of the target area. I would suggest so add some proper naming of the Waypoints (I think this can be easily done in the editor) MSN03 is not really a speaking name and I think in reality I would expect that your WPs are named properly. :) - First Time I have flown the mission I did not destroy any escaping truck, but the Debriefing said that I did destroy them completely. I MAY have hit a truck with the gun, but I am very sure it was not destroyed. Even my wingman did not kill them. There were definitly surviving trucks, but debriefing states all of them were destroyed (however, not a big issue just want to let you know) Not sure how the triggers are setup for this - ATC tells you to start and land with the wind and not in the opposite direction (guess its a ATC issue). That also means that WP 5 is placed "at the wrong side" of the runway when approaching. ATC will always (??) tell you to takeoff / land on runway 07 (wind heading is 069). Also not a big issue and I think its mainly due to ATC "failure". However, not sure if you want to adjust WP 5 to the "ATC expected direction" of the runway to match the ATC order even if it would be different in the real world. Not sure if you want to consider this, but maybe you want to add a very small part of remarks for each mission to tell the player to ignore some DCS related strange behavior (like "ignore ATC command to start and land on runway 07 and do it in the opposite direction") I think as long there are no spoilers, it would be ok and sometimes less confusing to players (I always try to do what the guys are saying... :D ) Overall, its a fantastic experience to fly these missions and for the price it is of such good value. These missions, seem to be much more realistic than the basic A-10C missions which seem to be unrealisticly difficult sometimes. Like a mission where are like 8 manpads in one area and you cant go high altitude because of clouds. Or some convoi mission where you are basically supposed to kill several Shilkas with MK-82 bombs... o_0 Maybe I'm just a bad pilot, but I cant imagine that any "real" mission would expect any A-10 pilot to go vs AAA with unguided bombs... seems like suicide to me... However, thanks to your campaign the first time I am really "entertained" by this sim. Before I just had fun because flying and handling the weapon systems are already fun in some crude way! ;) -
Just started the Alpha and I am currently downloading the update. Have started it like 2h ago and there was nothing. I guess just waiting is the key. Not sure if everyone will get it at the same time?

Thanks for your input guys. Will go for the MSFFB2 :)

Hi, I'm currently thinking about getting a FFB Joystick for the Huey to have a realistic Trim. Which would you recommend? The Stick from Microsoft or the G940? I must say that I already have the MFG Crosswind paddels and a HOTAS Warthog so I just need the FFB Stick. I tend more to buy the G940 since it simply has more buttons... and it seems to have a smaller footprint, but this is not really important. Anything else I should consider? What whould you recommend?

Hi, I had exactly the same question. Tried a little more and found the solution. Please have a look here. I hope is is exactly what you need. http://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=2659146&postcount=5

3 Monitor setup: moving all radio texts to center screen
Ayindi replied to Ayindi's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Found the solution, now it works exactly as I want. For later reference: asuming you run a resolution of 5760x1080. The value 3840 you will see later represents 2x1920 and will make your center monitor the "right border" for the messages. These changes are only picked up if you restart DCS completely. Reloading the mission does not work! for the command menu edit DCS World/Scripts/UI/RadioCommandDialogPanel/CommandMenu.lua starting at line 89 for me do local menuPanel = Panel.new('CommandMenu.menuPanel') menuPanel:setSkin(containerSkin) menuPanel:setBounds(3840 - menuWidth, 0, menuWidth, height) -- edit here container:insertWidget(menuPanel) self.menuPanel = menuPanel additionally go to DCS World\Scripts\UI\RadioCommandDialogPanel\CommandDialogsPanel.lua starting at line 175 for me do local screenWidth, screenHeight = Gui.GetWindowSize() screenWidth = 3840 -- add this line local height = 400 local window = DialogLoader.spawnDialogFromFile('Scripts/UI/RadioCommandDialogPanel/CommandDialogsPanel.dlg') window:setBounds(0, 0, screenWidth, height) Doing this will bind your radio menu to the right of you center screen. Exactly where it should be if you had 1 monitor. However now you will still have the radio text spread on your left and right screen. You can fix it by doing this: go to DCS World\Scripts\UI\gameMessages.lua starting at line 54 for me window = DialogLoader.spawnDialogFromFile('Scripts/UI/gameMessages.dlg', localization) main_w, main_h = Gui.GetWindowSize() main_w = 1920 --add this line! --window:setBounds(0,0, main_w, main_h) window:setBounds(1920,0, main_w, main_h) --edit this line Doing these changes will also put the left and the right radio messages to the center screen so you wont need to turn you head. Enjoy! :) -
Hmm strange I could easily import the xxx.diff.lua files for each controller from 1.5.2. (and back to 1.5.2 which I needed in one case...) Have tried it for the A-10C, Huey and Su-27 so far. Dont just replace it, import it via the "load profile button" in the upper right. Edit: you dont need to explicitly save your profile in 1.5.2. If you change something it will automatically be written into the xxx.diff.lua file, just import this file for all your specific controllers and you should be good to go...

3 Monitor setup: moving all radio texts to center screen
Ayindi replied to Ayindi's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Hi, I have also thought about this and have read the tutorial thread somewhere here. However, if I remember correctly this guide was for a 3 monitor profile within DCS. Since I use NVIDIA Surround it pretends to be one screen. Therefor I was already thinking that this might not fix this issue... :( -
Hi, I have a 3 monitor setup using NVIDIA surround (so for DCS basically 1 monitor with a resolution of 5760x1080) which works fine so far. However, the problem is that the radio text and the comm menu are now on the right or left screen so I need to turn my head to read it. Its a little uncomfortable and not really doable in the heat of battle. With some research I was already able to move the comm menu and the "right hand text" (e.g. the instructor text and so on) to the right side of the center screen. Basically be editing a lua file and pretending the resolution was 3840. This is fine. However, the "left hand text" (Wingman / ATC / AWACS / Bullseye calls and so on...) is still on the left screen. Since I have no clue how I should even call these radio texts I dont even know what to search for. All I found seemed to be related to the "right hand text" and the comms menu. So long story short: can anyone give me a hint what file I could edit to bring my AWACS / wingman / Bullseye call texts to the center screen? Hope you know what I mean! :) Thanks in advance!

Navigation in DCS is pretty easy I think. Since you are flying rather short routes you just have to follow the lines in your TAD. Difficult Landings can be done by doing your own missions in the mission editor. Wind, bad weather all is there, but you basically need to do it on your own. I would still say, if you are more interested in "just flying" and navigation stick with FSX, but if you also like the weapon management and strategy part DCS is really worth a try. A10C is probably the most complex module you could get. This module would give you the best in all relevant categories. Hint, its currenty for 40% off on steam (not sure about the regular DCS shop) so it would be a great time to start with it in case you dont have it yet.
