  1. I think depends on the price you would get a 980Ti for and whats your intentions. For normal (non VR) DCS its good enough for triple screen. I even enjoy VR in it sometimes. However, I think DCS is not ready vor VR primetime, yet and there are many issues to be resolved. Some weeks ago I was looking at the the price for a 980Ti and it was still 600 € while a 1080Ti was "only" 200 € more for like 50 % more GPU power... However, prices are pretty crazy currently so not sure how this is at this very moment. I would also suggest to get a 1070 instead of a 980Ti (it has the same power but is most likely cheaper)
  2. Did some more testing today and setting the FOV to 120 seems to be the only workaround for now... :( I also noticed that running with FOV120 has actually removed ANY stuttering. Can anyone confirm this? Besides the freezes I had some remarkable stutter with FOV140. With FOV120 all seems very smooth. FPS was always good, but with stuttering I mean thos strange little hickups, that appear from time to time. In case you are a triple screen user I think I found an acceptable solution to run triple screen with FOV120 https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=201601 Maybe it will help you to ease your pain for the time being.
  3. Hi friends, if you are like me and are suffering from the DCS freezes you have possibly already found out that limiting the FOV to 120 is the only working workaround to "fix" this from happen. However for us triple screen users this is very painfull since limiting the FOV will also greatly reduce the vertical field of view and everything is too zoomed in. Not sure if anyone already came up with this idea, but I think I found an acceptable solution for it. Via the camera.lua file I split my left and right monitor "into half" and will fully use the center monitor. Please have a look at the attached screenshot which has a FOV of 120 to get an idea how it will look like on triple screens. As you can see the vertical FOV is good and this way its actually usable. Sure, you are losing one full screen of full fidelity flightsim, but still maintains some beauty of triple screen and you can actually play and enjoy DCS. Please copy the attached lua file into the ..\DCS World\Config\MonitorSetup and select it in the settings. After a restart of DCS you should be good to go. This file was made for triple FullHD monitors, in case you have another resolution you need to adjust the numbers. I hope if you look at the file it will be clear what to do. Once the freeze issue is fixed you can go back to your normal settings with a single mousclick and a DCS restart. MyFOV120fix.lua
  4. Just spent my Sunday morning with some research on this. All was done on the first A-10C instant action mission in caucasus. I made some experiments with differnet graphic settings, deferred shading on / off and lowering bushes and trees. Bottom line ist nothing seems to help. Sometime a session runs longer, sometimes not... seems really random. First I thought that it usually happens while I play and that it lasts longer if I "do nothing" and just orbit, but this was also a wrong assumption. After my graphic settings experiment I set everything back to normal and did 10 runs where I just climbed to approx 6000 feet and orbit there for 20 minutes... I get 10 freezes out of 10 (yay!) Below you ca see in Minutes how long it took DCS to freeze. As I said, all I did is orbiting in ~6000 feet height and then going afk and do something else in Real Life (so no looking around or anything ingame) 17m 5m 15m 2m 2m 7m 2m 17m 4m 2m absolutely unplayable... :(
  5. Doesnt it show the price in USD if you visith the webpage? http://mfg.simundza.com/products Includign VAT for Germany its 320€ So I'd say its also ~300 USD WITHOUT taxes for the US (maybe a bit less) + shipping + customs (I guess?) I'd say they are very well worth it. Own them since like two years and I am very happy about them!
  6. Would also be interested if this mostly happens to people with more than one monitor? I have three. If you post here please also mention the number of monitors. Maybe also the map? Have not tested NTTR yet, but in 2.2 I could fly NTTR pretty well but Caucasus in 2.5 gives me regular freezes after very few minutes.
  7. Also have freezes like 5 - 10 minutes into the game. :( Unplayable actually. I will try the NTTR map next to see if it is any better... I hope they find a solution soon...
  8. Not having read all pages, but here are my two cents: How about like a 14 day grace period (maybe even 30 days?) everytime you log into DCS it will try to renew the license. If you have internet it will do so and you are "safe" for the next x days. If you dont have internet nothing will happen until those x days have run out. I think the importance here is that it will try every time. This will prevent "bad luck" situations in case you want to play, but have no internet or connection to the ED servers for whatever reason just when the grace perios ended.
  9. Funny... Earlier this morning I also wanted to suggest to look for VKB or Virpil Sticks... ;) While they currently dont have a "real" F18 Throttle/Stick they offer good quality products with interchangeable grips. I think the main benefit is that you might get a much better quality and modular product from them with a stick / throttle which might not look the same as the F18 options, but offer you the possibility to bind your buttons as close to the original as possible for many aircrafts in DCS not just the F18. Have a look! :) Also, I would bet that Thrustmaster will only release their product after DCS F-18C has been released. Since the F-18 grip and throttle dont have so much buttons I'd say: sacrifice some "realism" to get a much more versatile option with like 90% realism (besides looks) for your F-18! It is also not clear if Thrustmaster will ever release more than a F-18 Stick and possibly no Throttle... And its very likely that the new F-18 Thrustmaster Stick is instantly compatible with the Virpil base unit since it is Warthog and Cougar compatible out of the box.
  11. Yes, but if I understood him correctly, he has only a certain amount left that it not big enough to store 2.5 so he has to remove a version to even install 2.5 ;) I'd remove 1.5 since the map has probably no reuse value for 2.5 while NTTR can probably be used for 2.5. Just a guess, though...
  12. Since your Warthog will be a new Joystick you will have it instantly mapped correctly. You might need to clear the axis of your old joystick to avoid "ghost movements". (just in case you leave it plugged in for other games)
  13. I can 100 % confirm that more than 2 MFD's work flawlessly on a single PC. I currently have 3 up and working in front of me. One broke (right after the warranty... :/ ) and I bought additional 2 with regard to the hornet. From the driver it suggests that 6 are supported (at least) You can easily remap the IDs of your MFD's in the settings of windows. My "new" MFD2 was instantly recognized by DCS and worked out of the Box flawlessly as MFD2 in the A10. So go for it without worry! :) I suspect that MFD3 will be instantly supported by the Hornet.
  14. This would also be nice for VR as well really +1 and good idea to "drag" the mousepointer when reaching the borders of the screen!
  15. I already do that, but in my current 3 monitor setting I am already zoomed out to the max. However, this is something that I also thought about. Looks like this requires a loot of tweaking with FOV, zooming and head position. :crash::D
  16. Thanks guys, your right that I turned the two outer monitors to me. Currently I am quite happy with my setup. I also tried to... well somehow mimic a 4K TV and was experimenting a bit with a single FullHD monitor (same aspect ratio as normal 4K) trying to get the look that I want. Just as a test since everything would be too small on this screen, but to get an idea how it would look on the big screen and to see if I got the result that I hope for. Right now I did not achieve this result, but I did not go into much details with the FOV settings (I tried the aspect ratio settings in the options of DCS, not really getting what I wanted) Looks like I have to do some more testing in the coming weeks! :)
  17. Hi, I am thinking about getting a 4K TV instead of my current triple screen setup some time in the future. Have read a lot about it on the forums and have seen some videos, however it seems that getting a 4K TV will just make the Cockpit and the whole picture very, very large and not increase the actual field of view. I know there are lua files that can be edited to increase the FOV (which I have done for my triple screen setup), but this will sometimes distort the picture to some extent. What I basically want is the similar size of the cockpit as on my current triple screen setup (where the cockpit is basically on the middle screen like it would be for a single screen setup) and just more viewable area around the "normal sized" cockpit on the 4K screen. What I have seen so far seem just very big cockpits on screen. Hope I could make clear what I mean. Does anyone have such settings for his 4k setup or do all of you have "just very big cockpits" on your screen?
  19. Just want to mention that Virpil has a sale right now until Jan 16th... 15% off + 5% founder bonus... Now they got me... ;)
Ahja on topic: Hab auch vorbestellt! :joystick:
  21. 128 GB might be a bit too short for DCS 2.5 + several maps + Win 10. While it may be enough right now I think you might hit the wall in the very near future. I'd suggest to get at least 256 GB, but only if you only want to run DCS. If there is anything else get at least 500 GB. (500GB still have reasonable prices)
  22. Cant you possibly say you need your PC (and your old card) for work? Well, this still leaves the chance they dont stress it enough to make it crash and reproduce the issue... :/
  23. Since 1.5 will not be updated to 2.5 (this will be a full new install) I think it depends on your intentions. Consider that you possibly need to take over a lot of settings to a new more or less "temporary" 2.2 installation until 2.5 arrives end of the month. Maybe a lot of work for a few hours of play. However if you have slow internet connection, downloading 2.2 right now will shorten the time to get 2.5 since this installer will basically coppy the whole map from your local hard disk if you have 2.2 installed and you dont need to download additional 36 GB during the "rush hour". Just be aware that 1.5 will not be upgraded to 2.5 so you will need to download a very big chunk at some point in the near future and you will need to carry over you settings tp a new version. You can mitigate that with downloading the open alpha right now if that matters to you!
  24. I'd say the following (which is a little different what others said before in this thread) If you are not sure if you can "reignite the spark" to play computer games I would suggest to buy a Geforce 1070... It is affordable and about the same speed as a 980TI (I have one) For normal VR this Card is quite good and can handle all current VR games due to the more or less low resolution of the common headsets (Oculus and Vive). However if DCS in VR is your major priority I'd agree you should buy the biggest card you can / want to afford.
  25. This link may hopefully help you! https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=143536 Basically add to this file: ...\DCS World\Config\MonitorSetup\1Camera.lua (you can copy/paste this file and create a new one with whatever name you see fit and edit this new file - select it in the DCS options ingame!) I named it my3CamProfile.lua I added this: _ = function(p) return p; end; name = _('my3CamProfile'); Description = 'One monitor configuration' Viewports = { Center = { x = 0; y = 0; width = screen.width; height = screen.height; viewDx = 0; viewDy = 0; aspect = screen.aspect; } } Gui = { x = 1920; y = 0; width = 1920; height = 1080; } UIMainView = Gui This makes all the above changes in this thread obsolete. In a nutshell: it should be enough to add the changes above to your "monitorSetup" file and you will not need ANY changes to adjust to your 3 monitor setup anymore. Your new "custom" file will never be replaced by any updates and will remain through updates. As of now it seems that you can basically forget everything that has been written above (including things I have written in this thread) and just do this and you should be good to go! Hope this helps!
