104th Phoenix - Operation Longbow - Dynamic PvP Mission
Terrificfool replied to 104th_Maverick's topic in Multiplayer
Looks like SRS has come out with a new version and is no longer compatible with the previous SRS version running on the server. -
Also I think it's safe to begin the alignment after the engine is started and finish up the FBW checks / final configuration adjustment of the aircraft. If you start the alignment ASAP in the startup sequence and add some pre-flight planning it's not bad at all. Then again half the players I've run into online don't even bother truing out their altimeters to the field QNH,
-
That's what I do. While I'm aligning I finish up any flight planning and enter all of my flight plan plus a few waypoints to update the INS on my way (try to have 1 update per hour of flight-ish). While a lot of people criticize the alignment times for 'slowing' down the game, I appreciate having the dead time to plan my sortie accordingly, especially in MP where you typically have no useful briefing or flight plan whatsoever.

Yes, should be as long as they are both on the same version. I am not sure if Steam is on 2.5 but today the standalone stable release got moved to 2.5.
-
Question: Does this VABase software you are using allow for meaningful logging of combat sorties, or is it just the typical virtual airline from here to here in this plane, etc?

+1 for a victory condition that automatically resets the map! +2 for some weather variation to make things even more exciting -

Do illumination rockets work with deferred shading on? I had heard there was a problem with them but haven't tested it myself. If they do, then that's the proper way to KA-50 at night. Even better if you can work with an Su-25 or F-5E pilot to drop illumination flares as they'll last longer. -
Sorry to necro this thread.. but does this actually work on the AV-8B in the latest 2.5 patch? My buddy and I were attempting it in MP last night and couldn't seem to get it to work. Set channel 29Y, AATR and 92Y AATR like we had done in the A-10 but wasn't getting the distance indication on the EHSD.

Personally I would hate to see platform numbers. What if me and five buds want to fly a two vic-3 strike package in the F-5E or Mirage 2000C? we'd likely have trouble either finding the available slots, or be stuck unable to even fly our sortie because those precious slots need to be dedicated to the top of the line fighters. -

Awesome mission guys! Pretty much exactly what I've been wanting to see in the DCS MP scene for a good five or so years! I give it a 9/10! For a true 10/10 experience, can we please get a second KC-135 for the A-10s? It was a bit disappointing flying 20 minutes the other day to a tanker I couldn't catch even in a fairly clean and light A-10! -

Doesn't appear to be any rockets, cluster bombs or JDAMs at Vaziani for the A-10C? Is this intentional or a bug? -
Once there is the Yak-52 in DCS OP will have his wish... the ability to train on Yak-52 and transition to L-39 before moving onto a main platform. The L-39 can be set to western avionics so saying we need a 'western' platform to train on doesn't really hold much weight as an argument. I think this is a non-issue at this point... it's already coming to DCS.

On the subject of KA-50 performance, I did some testing with a FARP placed at the same location as in the mission, at 30C, 29.92 and no wind. Looks like you need to keep under 24000 lbs weight to be able to take off effectively. That's 80% fuel or so with the standard KA-50 loadout. I made sure I could take off with dust protection engaged, and no power set limit indications during my takeoffs. Do note: You'll have to fly IGE off the FARP and gain about 30-40 kph before you will be able to climb OGE. However, if you back yourself up on the FARP pad, and then roll off the FARP pad into your climb you should have no problems getting off the ground. You could even manage this with a heavier load nearer to 24500-25000 lbs, but it requires you to be 'on the numbers' with your controls. Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to some challenging helicopter flying!

In the Nellis Night mission it's 30C outside. Did you set the temp to 30C in your test? I was flying the A-10C and made sure to lightly load my airframe to maintain performance in those conditions. The KA-50s spawned at Nellis on the ramp right? If so, you should just do a rolling takeoff rather than try to hover IGE/OGE. However, I'd strongly suggest at least slightly lightening your loadout to increase your survivability.

Can you consider adding a second KC-135 that the A-10C can actually rendezvous with? It would be especially helpful for pilots who want to fly the FAC role on missions.
-
Is it the intent of the server hosts to allow the CA slots to issue move orders to units? Seems like this may be contributing to lag, particularly on the F10 map when in the CA slots.
-
Just want to say I've really been enjoying the weather you all have added to many of the 104th missions. It really adds a whole new dynamic to the server!

After doing some ground pounding on Axis side with a buddy I have the following feedback: 1. 10 flak guns seems a bit excessive. Most flights will probably be 2-4 aircraft and I suspect this will be rough on most players. Large flights would have a much easier time managing, but I suspect those sizes will be exceedingly rare. 2. Once we destroyed the targets at Bzyb we got a message saying a transport was taking off from Sochi. We flew towards the airfield but didn't see the troop transport on the way, or at the airfield itself. Does it actually spawn at the airfield and take off or is it already in the air? We should be able to know the details of the friendly transport aircraft, such as flight altitude and speed. Maybe I missed that in the SOP? 3. Axis AI aircraft are getting stuck on the runway and taxiway at Gudauta. 4. A specific AI BORT number would be nice, so we could easily identify whether aircraft are AI or player. I'd request specific BORTs for each player aircraft too, but I understand this would be time consuming for you guys to implement.

Nice work!

Heck yes. IMHO the one thing that would help ignite WW2 air combat the most: an Axis A2G platform that people can feel comfortable flying and have fun in. Bring on the Schnellbomber!

I've flown the Mustang extensively with lots of people on the DoW server, including all of my fellow squadron mates, and guests such as OutOnTheOp. I've taken off with 68% fuel + tanks, 68% fuel, 50% fuel, 40% fuel, etc. Not once have I been in an engagement where I thought 'man if only I had less fuel'. Nor have I heard any of those players that I regularly fly with make comments to that end. On the other hand, I have been on climb outs over mountains where I wish I had taken less fuel. I have loaded down my aircraft with large amounts of ordinance, and wish I had reduced the fuel below 68%. In situations where I've jettisoned said ordinance due to enemy aircraft I have not seen a sudden fortuitous change in my BFM situation, even though I have suddenly reduced my weight to well below the clean + 68% fuel weight. With a fixed tank system, I can't make these changes, and am stuck carrying a2g ordinance at very high weights. Similarly, I have never been in a German aircraft and felt 'man, this Mustang is so light, I can't take him.' Quite frankly, I don't think the advantage is as large as some may claim, or even very perceptable to your opponent. A slippery opponent is slippery because he is good, and/or you are bad. The enemy is on your six shooting at you because you made bad decisions, not because he loaded his aircraft lighter than you. Taking away someone's ability to reduce fuel to counteract payload or adverse weather does not change these facts. Furthermore, if we want to talk about 'realistic' loadouts and sorties, I think we should first focus on some more glaring issues that are, imho, much easier to fix. Such as taking off in a 1-ship fighter sweep, and not using that wonderful radio simulator we call Teamspeak 3. Anyone can fix these with this free add-on (don't worry, it will never make you fail an integrity check!!) and by communicating with other players in the server. With this 1 SIMPLE TRICK you will have loner turn and burners off your six in no time, no fuel adjustments necessary. Oh and one more thing: Since your fuel depletes during flight, you can't just expect every dogfight to be 'the way it was meant to be played'... you have to fly the aircraft, not the stick, or the ideal in your head about how your plane should behave. It's just like the BF-109 stick forces thread: move the control surfaces to get the maximum performance available out of the airframe at that time. Assess your performance relative to your opponent, and adjust your tactics accordingly.

So the RSBN implementation in Mig-21 is based on a custom .lua file that defines RSBN stations for airfields that currently do not have RSBN stations? Have those airfields in question ever had RSBN stations? Are RSBN/PRMG stations field deployable? If a Mig-21bis squadron was stationed or deployed to an airfield lacking RSBN/PRMG/ARK for an extended period of time, would they not also set up a navigational aid at that airfield? Just because they use their own file to store the location of the beacons doesn't mean their implementation is inherently unrealistic. Similarly, if these sorts of beacons could be deployed to the field along with the aircraft, it's not unrealistic to put them at the airfield. In my opinion, accurate simulation of the technology and its functions is much more important than whether or not airfield A had the beacon at year X. On the L-39C there appears to be separate PRMG/RSBN channels for an airfield, i.e. 24 for nav, 26 for landing. Is this how it is supposed to be on the Mig-21bis RSBN? I would like to see that added if that is the case.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Orders,_decorations,_and_medals_of_the_Soviet_Union#Military_medals 373rd guys, do you think you all can bestow some decorations on the brave heroes of the Western Caucasus this Tuesday, September 15th. I'd like to thank methosXX, Viking_Tsunami, BadHabit, Ram, the 127.lae Vitezovi, and many others (chime in, I have missed some who definitely deserve recognition) for advancing all the way to Gudauta and suppressing the heck out of Sukhumi while we reinforced our position. In this darkest of hours, I could not have asked for finer men. За успех! За дружбу! За удачу! (forgive me if I butchered that, I was just googling for something to say!)
