  1. so far there is really only one known method of over the shoulder capability that was reported the french use a tactical data-link from their awacs or buddy aircraft and program the missile to turn around and search for the target that way (americans use data-link method too I believe) i suspect that any helmet mounted site could look behind their aircraft and program the missile to look in that area for the target but i can not find a source on that.
  2. Yes it is advertised as such, although i doubt its usefulness in a fight with Fox 2s, should be pretty good against larger missiles that are designed for bvr, ie s-300s, sa-6s r-33s etc. although i assume the pilot has to target the missile manually and tell it to fire, especially since the thing carries like 300+ chaff for defeating missiles, and the plane can and will tell you to turn at a certain amount of g's inorder to defeat the missile. it may have a use if you somehow go through your 320 chaff and there is another missile inbound or if there is a missile that is added that has no notch and nearly perfect countermeasure resistance
  3. The iris-t will not be a game changer, it is better then the aim-9x we have right now without a doubt, but its not enough for hornet players and f-16 players to write home about and fear the skies, it will come down to skill with aircraft more then anything. the game is a first spot and first shoot/high skill kind. I also have been reading quite a bit about the eurofighter and i could find nothing about the iris-t being slaveable to the missile warning approach system or by the rwr (for an aircraft). Unless you have information that is above a random person who loves plane then i do not think they can. which means it can only do it via datalink, by radar or by pilots helmet which means for dogfight servers you should be golden (unless they have awacs on them) Iris-t does talk about a higher countermeasure resistance then competitors but they specifically talk about the aim-9l so it might be on par, above or below the aim-9xs flare resistance. The iris-t does have anti missile capability but that's for missiles farther out, i doubt the pilot would have much time to aim a iris-t against an incoming aim-9x within 3nm, i assume that intended role is for say r27s from bvr or sa-2,3,6s etc. I also doubt the pilot would want to waste a missile in a WVR fight to destroy one of his missiles when they could dump flares, especially since the target may have fired more then one aim-9x I also would not worry about people running over to the meta just because its meta, people fly what they want to fly for example when the JF-17 came out it had better missile performance then it does now, and the radar could not be notched whilst the amraam had 10-20 percent less range then it does now, I never saw a massive amount of jf-17s flying around. The f-18 also out performs the f-16 right now in terms of meta/ especially payload and its a mixed balance for that aircraft. especially on pvp servers where one would argue meta matters more You also have the f-14 outperforming in terms of bvr then any other aircraft in terms of range and we dont see the f-18 or f-16 player count suffering for it. it mainly comes down to the fact most people like to fly nato aircraft that is either modern or iconic so those are more popular. That is to say the euro fighter wont be popular because it will, i assume most Europeans will main it alongside the mirage 2000 and for french lovers turn the exterior into a rafale exterior or a swedelover with a gripen exterior I also really hope servers don't ban the weapons or the aircraft, it seems a tad bit silly to sleep for the aim-9x (and to an extent the aim-54c for bvr) even though i would argue the aim-9x trivialized WVR fighting but suddenly wake and get upset when something better comes along. Also truegrit have posted pictures of the eurofighter firing meteor missiles on their instagram so it is likely they will be added
  4. most likely will be calculated, although with the CEO being a EF pilot like what shagrat said will be massively helpful to having a accurate pretty close flight model, although with a partnership with the EF team in Germany they might be able to get their hands on a EM chart whilst we can not
  5. probably because the ins gyro on a f-16 is fragile and the aircraft shifting messes it up
  6. ? how does that help realign after rearming, especially after landing from a sortie? how does that help with confirming the coordinates of your aircraft for servers that don't have f10 location?
  7. During wags video he talks about verifying the coordinates that you start at, unfortunately not all servers or settings allow you to see yourself on the f10 map to verify. It also hurts due to the fact you can have a completely different set of coordinates on the f10 map and you need to change them with the keybinding Ed please add You also have to apparently realign after putting on weapons so we should be able to update our kneeboard, sort of like the JF-17
  8. f-14 is easily beatable in terms of bfm even upon initial release especially with the f-16 that was released 2 months after it, the hornet is also better so was the mirage etc. a unnotchable/undefeatable radar? many dcs rios i know would laugh at that. damage model of the f-14 was fine for what the aircraft is, do you expect the plane to disintegrate on a missile hit or something? upon a aim-120 hit the plane is 90 percent guaranteed to lose engines, hydraulic power and ins deka jf-17 radar tracks are not undefeatable, the radar in the jf-17 is actually horrendous compared to the f-16 and f-18 it has such a small range for fighter sized targets. but do you expect radar contacts to disappear suddenly for modern fighters? they have memory of the target will typically extrapolate for a couple of seconds before losing lock. over performing bvr missile? barely, the missile more or less hasnt changed much since release, its the amraam that was buffed to realistic levels. should deka have nerfed the sd-10 because ED messed up with the aim-120? also truegrit what is the the exact process for developing a dcs module? do you make the cockpit first with modelers until its ready to code and have the coders working on weapons, or is it some other variant?
  9. this is a key critical thing about the eurofighter ITS NOT COMING OUT FOR AT LEAST A YEAR AND A HALF at that point the f-18 and f-16 will be 100 percent complete with stuff like towed decoys which help defeat stuff like meteor missiles. Not to mention there is also a chance that another company is already making a counter to it, it just isn't announced yet. i feel like a lot of people are under the assumption that the eurofighter is this year or SOONtm if people want balance they should be clamoring for a full fidelity mig-25, mig-29, su-27. All of them have at least one variant America knows about due to defections or America outright buying or NATO countries having after the fall of the soviet union redfor also really needs a strike aircraft that isn't the frog foot, or another good multi-role aircraft but lets assume that improvements to the game stop today, with no more modules except the eurofighter. With the eurofighter getting all of its bells/ whistles and it being released today the f-14b would be the best counter to the eurofighter in terms of BVR the phoenix is crazy and IMO underrated for high altitudes especially from tomcats launching them 30-50k feet up (which is where the eurofighter should be). missiles come down nearly 60 degrees up from ranges 60-120nm depending on the version while still going supersonic WVR is a different story but with missiles like aim-9x's and r73s WVR is basically dead unless one of the planes catches the other unaware especially in guns range i guess dogfighting with just guns the eurofighter will come out on top with a big advantage so i guess watch out for that.
  10. lack of content? there is a campaign for the jf-17 that is 8ish missions long...
  11. for when it will be released it is very interesting. but a comparison with the f-14 and to an extent the f-18 isn't exactly accurate, the f-14 is a two seater whilst the euro is one seater, there is the fact the euro is a glass cockpit and the f14 is analogue, plus the f14 is a variable swept wing and they had to model the animation and code for it and have it change its aerodynamic model when it does sweep. not to mention the euro fighter is a FBW plane whilst the f-14 is not a more accurate comparison would be say the jf-17, since after all the jf-17 is a single seater multi role aircraft with a glass cockpit. it also is a partial FBW system. The jf-17 was 31 months to release there is also the critical aspect of team size relative to release date, i don't think heatblur had double digits for team size when working on the f-14 i would say 24-32 months for a full fidelity mostly complete eurofighter for a system like the hornet where it comes out partially complete maybe 14-22 months for how realistic it is clear it will never be 100 percent accurate but i do want as close as possible, there is no game balance in dcs and if there is it is by heavy coding from multiplayer servers or they just don't allow the overpowered stuff but i expect most weapons from all the eurofighters to be released, unless one of the eurofighter nations say you cant even have it, they likely wont have the same range or as powerful seeker-head or as big as warhead
  12. same problem and its the same as my two other friends as soon as you use map mode radar in multiplayer the games fps dies the problem in single-player was a long time ago and i don't think happens anymore. at least it hasn't been a problem for me for a long time the problem itself isn't just the mapping radar, i believe it has to do with datalink, the datalink is being flooded with these contacts and is trying to send those to every other player on a datalink although i have to stress its for multiplayer only. although the mapping radar is still partially to blame but it only is for multiplayer single player you can have pic attached levels of ground contacts and flood your radar with no-minimal fps loss. the pic has about 130+ ground units in scope
  13. i was looking in my aircraft at the several A2G modes and i noticed WA and BCN submodes for it. what exactly do they do?
  14. You are forgetting that the jf-17 has a fuel tank for the center line pylon, but i don't know why people keep saying it has short range, you can fly the aircraft nearly 300NM or so with just the internal tanks and carrying a heavy load but if you like flying low you can do about 230NM low with a heavy loadout on the deck. not to mention with the refueling probe that was graciously added by you guys you can just use a tanker and refuel in the air. the only time it has short range is if you fly low with after burner on with no tankers nearby. :joystick: edit: in fact just to prove my point here is a track of flying in death valley with 2 802ak, an spj, 4 sd-10s and 2 pl-5s flying 250nm ish range of the jf-17.trk
  15. I think that all weapons should be allowed no single weapon can ruin a game, weirdly enough looking at it, it has less range then ed with their roadmap for a SLAM-ER missile if the missile is overpowered for multiplayer all mission makers have to do is just not have them supplied at airfields, sort of like the nuclear bomb for the mig-21bis there are counters, i assume the aim54c phoenix can intercept them since it was designed to intercept high altitude anti ship missiles same logic should apply for just high altitude missiles, not to mention any ships if the target is also on the coastline should intercept them too. Ed is i believe trying to make ballistic simulation so why not use that, it would be logical for them to create some sort of anti ballistic missile weapons for Russia and America once that's released
  16. he talked about being annoyed of having to change it manually every time he spawned in
  17. i find it unlikely that the jf17 can't carry any type200s on the inner pylons or gbu-12s or any cluster bombs for that matter plus we don't have the raad yet but anyways nice mod
  18. Nice mod  this is a nice fix for some of dekas choices
  19. A keybind that would be incredibly nice to have would be to combine the emergency jettison cover open and pressing the button itself. That way we don't have to press two separate keybinds to do the singular thing of emergency jettisoning our fuel tanks especially when we have been fired upon and we need to quickly react where time is very precious edit: nearly forget it would be nice for a reset trim button for when you have expended your weapons, especially if it was a asymmetrical load
  20. With the Jf-17 limited pylons the WMD-7 can be a risky choice, however some aircraft can actually provide those targeting points to each other. the A10c and the Ka50 can share those. i was wondering if the Jf-17 can give sensor point of interests to other friendly Jf-17s via data-link either in real life or in DCS?
  21. yeah this bug is pretty annoying to deal with.
  22. wait are you saying that they didn't see spitfires? next you would be telling me the final countdown isnt real at all and the tomcat never fought a6m zeros! why is this even being humored at all? this is a video game where aircraft from all sort of times are mashed together. almost every aircraft in the game would not be able to identify the jf 17 with that sort of logic for example the f16 is set to 2007 and is national guard which is the year the jf 17 was introduced does that mean the f16 should not be able to identify the jf 17 in its rwr? with this line of logic aircraft like the f-5 would not be able to identify almost every single aircraft on its rwr
  23. I will keep it brief and simple any time that you use iff will overwrite what is actually there and turn on for example even if you do not have any targeting pod you can still use the wmd 7 so for example you can have the station empty or a fuel tank and it still will "turn" on the pod the invisible pods work completely with an example shown in the second attachment guiding a laser guided bomb onto the target the same is for the tvir, and the datalink pod
  24. you mean exactly the way the dcs f18 hornet is where you have to turn on the iff?
  25. What a lot of people are not noticing is the fact its only if jf-17s are on both sides of the conflict. they explicitly state that if its any other aircraft/or ai then that tactic will not work how many servers have both sides the same aircraft? also the custom iff string seems a bit silly and it should just be complex all the time, there are several ways to check to make sure its an actual player if its an enemy jf-17s giving false iff one is to have some people not in a jf-17 and data link with them. awacs should be able to defeat it since its ai so data linking with them should defeat it also the f10 map a commander looking at the map and guiding friendlies to enemy targets etc
