Happy Birth Day bro!!! S!

Since everyone feels the need to constantly stray off the original thread's topic, I'll bite: Can you be more specific on who these "elitists" are please? I'm sure we can all benefit from your master list and certainly avoid any contact with these people at all costs. If by "elitists" you mean they are those who want to fly the Shark as close to the real thing as possible, then that's quite a large group. Do people that build accurate modeled sim pits in their basements qualify as "elitists" as well? They put countless hours and money into their own immersion factor, so they must be people who don't want to have fun. As GGTharos nicely put it: "A flight sim is what you make of it. " Cheers....

Read Section 11 in your DCS BS Ka-50 Flight Manual (it's in your Docs folder of where you installed the game). Start at page 11-11 and go from there. It's a big manual, but it's got a lot of answers to everything related on "how to's" in the Shark. That should get you going.

INU alignment coordinate versus orientation question
Toadster replied to ChromeWasp's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
I never once implied that you were a NOOB Slayer. I'm simply eluding to the many, many negative responses from G940 owners right on the Logitech Forums, and the lack of Logitech solution from Mark Starrett (global product marketing manager for the G940). Quite possibly, your rudders slipping themselves are the result of those variable resistors - period. That's why I said "good luck with your G940", as not too many other people have had luck with that system. You can post all the track files that you want, but if your Rudders slip, it's probably not the game, it's most likely your G940 Rudder Pedals. I would also double check your in Game Axis setup, too ensure there are no other Axis' working against you. Sorry you took it to heart. Peace. -
 LOL... Yes, we're too busy playing Hockey and Drinking beer..(mmm, Beeeeer) We are suppose to be getting some F-35 a few years down the road, so I imagine it'll be even tougher to pass into the Fighter Community now... http://www2.macleans.ca/2010/07/29/weapons-of-choice/ Hopefully we can afford the cost of not just the aircraft, but all the training and support that will be required on these aircraft. Lots of moving parts equals lots of chances that something will break. And woe to the first Private that scratches the Radar Absorbing paint on the skin....

Nice work as always Aero... not detested here, I'm sure.

INU alignment coordinate versus orientation question
Toadster replied to ChromeWasp's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
With all due respect Slayer, it's speculation about what you say regarding in game rudder trim slip. I have flown this Sim since it has been released with my TM Cougar and Saitek Rudder Pedals, and NEVER have I experienced my rudder slipping past where they shouldn't be - with FD enabled or not. PS: here's what Matt Starrett said about G940 Hall sensors in this forum: http://logitech.lithium.com/t5/PC-Gaming/Hall-Sensors-in-G940-rudders/td-p/405411?nobounce "12-01-2009 09:51 AM The Rudder pedals, throttles and rotaries use variable resistors. Only the Stick X and Y axis use a Hall effect contactles sensor. Mark Starrett Global Product Marketing Manager Logitech" Good luck with your G940... -

Hardened Aircraft Shelter Interior Textures Mod
Toadster replied to Mustang's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
That's awesome Mustang.. Kudos and S! -
I've had my ATI 5870 for a few months now and I absolutely love it! This DX11 news makes me even happier about DCS A-10C, just when I thought that I couldn't be more ecstatic about it! Top that glee filled joy off with the soon to be released TM Warthog, and "By the Power of GreySkull", I will be in my own version of heaven...

Concur Lio, but I never mentioned turning off the AP Channels altogether, I was exclusive to the ALT Hold procedure that ChromeWasp has mentioned. The 3 dampner Channels should always be on, but adding the ALT Hold is not necessary for low level flying. Also, the type of flying as it applied to this particular thread was low level combat maneuvering for engaging targets, which requires lots of hands on. Transitioning from point A to point B is a whole other matter of course and having the FD Channel engaged is also a matter of choice as you mentioned. (I too use the FD to fly low level). I would much rather be in complete control at low altitudes during combat maneuvering, than rely on the AP to guide me around, but again, personal preference as you said. S!

Everyone is entitled to fly and shoot how they want, so allow me to pass on some words of experience from me to you: * Regarding PVI target marking: Just because you can do it, doesn't mean it'll help you in the long run. It sounds like a boat load of work in the pit if your already flying fast and low... * Regarding ALT Hold while flying fast and low: Bad flying habits are hard to break, but good flying habits will keep you safe. Flying Low and Fast with ALT Hold on will get you into trouble eventually. Get hit with some ground fire or shrapnel, or even enter a Vortex Ring Situation, and you'll need every bit of response from your Collective immediately. :joystick: Fighting the AP authority at low level will have you porpoising everywhere, and is NOT what the system was intended for (again, a bad habit to get into). From what you're describing, you're letting the Aircraft fly you, and not the other way around. Fly Smart at all times...:smartass: Fly Safe at all times...:pilotfly: Fly in Control at ALL times... OK, that's me off the Soap Box...:D S!

Yes it is possible, but I'm not sure how accurate the Target Gate will still be if you fly around the area a few KM's away if you happen to go defensive and then re-cage the SHKVAL. If the target location is off, you can just align it again. I would think more likely if you're in a hover to use your this feature with VIHKRs and then select your targets 1,2,3 no problem for example. The beginning of this thread asked about going fast and low while doing all of this so my point was, if you're within 2 to 3 KM's of the targets and plan to attempt multiple strikes, it would be far less work to engage them via Boresight Mode and manually take them out with guns or rockets. Save the VIKHRs for some long distance love I always say... Cheers!

Ah, I see. Unfortunately, the system isn't that advanced I'm afraid. Even sending Data Link info to another Shark in the area means fine tuning his SHKVAL sights as well (it will be slightly "off"), especially when you come in from a different approach, altitude, etc. The Shark is pretty good on Navigation for sure, but the SHKVAL can only do so much on it's own, the rest is up to you sir!

You can add it to your ABRIS in a few ways via the menu, which will in turn give you Lat & Long, along with the visual of it. But it'll be more of a workflow to get it entered while you're flying. See Section 7 of the manual for information on how to store and use ABRIS NAV dat. So, it all depends on how and why you want to store the data really. If you're flying directly over the targets and marking to save the goodies for later, that's understandable, but you may catch a SAM in the belly for your troubles. On the other hand, gathering target data from a distance to be able to datalink to your buddies is very cool too. But to answer your question, check the manual Section 11 for using the SHKVAL and PVI, etc. Here's a quick excerpt from Section 11-5 regarding the PVI: Designate Target Points The Ka-50 navigation-targeting system can store up to 10 Target Points (TP), which can be actual targets or ingress points. Setting a TP can be done in two ways: * Target Point fly-over. In this scenario, the TP is the ground coordinate that the helicopter was flying over when the TP was created. (as you had done with the PVI, and therefore gives you the 3D data) * Shkval I-251 Designation. Using the Shkval system and the laser rangefinder, a ground location can be designated and set as a TP. This is done by determining range and bearing between designation point and own ship. (this will also give you the 3D data) However, by using the Data Link system in conjunction with the SHKVAL, you can still set your targets, Ingress point and even use the EnRoute Mode to get there as required, plus be able to share the data with others so it shows up on their ABRIS. Just scroll down to Section 11-6 in the manual and read along. I hope this is answering your questions properly, if not please let me know. S!

Ideally, once you know where one target is in a certain area, it's not neccessary to label them all. If your going that low for multiple kills using guns or rockets, you're better off engaging Boresight mode in conjunction with the SHKVAL instead of relying on the navigation system for targeting. I personally do not use the PVI for close target tracking. The ABRIS can easily store target data for you when used in conjunction with the HMD eyepiece, that way if you get turned around or have to extend defensive, you can easily locate the target again on your ABRIS screen. But be very careful that all the threats, such as Shilkas, Man Pads, etc. are eliminated before running in for the low pass "Hollywood" kills. Also watch for shrapnel from explosions - if you are too low, you will get damaged Use your VIHKR's from a distance to clear out the major threats first, or you'll end up in pieces...:D

Hello GRoss. Please feel free to join our 104th dedictaed server and our TeamSpeak3. There are extensive briefs posted on our website, with maps of target areas, etc. We have multiple channels in TS3 for flight groups to be in constant communication with as well. http://www.104thphoenix.com/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewforum&f=4 Anyone is welcome anytime...:D S!

Patience is a big Virtue in the Shark. Talk the time to brief (or get briefed) of where you want to go to help complete the obejectives. You would need to know what target areas have been wiped out so that you know what objectives are remaining. Fighter cover is a bonus, but not always possible. But if you team up with the A2G crews (A-10, Su25 / 25T, etc), you can be a lethal combination. Being in communication with your fixed winged mud slingers will lessen the chance that you get ordinance dropped on your head. Make a flight plan using your ABRIS and PVI as a reference that doesn't involve the most direct route and spend some time getting to the On Station area. You don't have create new waypoints, but with the ABRIS, you can see how to fly around to get to them. Each waypoint means that there could be some enemy in those areas, so unless the area is 100% cleared of objectives, always approach with caution. As mentioned many times in this thread, always look for cover and be aware of the terrain around you. Open space can equal certain death in an area patrolled by Fighters, so Look around you for quick flying shadows from over head, fly low, occasionally "Hover to Cover" and move on when it's clear. Yes, it will take a while to get somewhere, but you'll not do yourself and your team any favours if you keep getting missiles in the face. So make a plan, grab a few of your favourite beverages, grab a Bio Break and settle in for a long flight.:pilotfly: S!

Well obviously GGTharos, someone pissed in your cornflakes this morning. If you feel the need to pick apart every sentence that I wrote (or everyone else for that matter), then that's your deal. I'm simply saying that's how "I" feel when I fly a virtual simulation. Of course I know that this simulation will never, ever be the real thing, but it's as close to flying as most people get. Thanks for given me some credit though.. much appreciated. In real life, I am an Aircraft Maintenance Engineer, and I got my start in the CAF in 89 and started in the civilian industry in 96. I have personally worked on and flown in both the F-18 and the Alpha Jet. Does that make me an expert on realism? Heck no, but I can tell you from experience what positive and negative G's feel like, when the afterburner kicks in, and what it feels like to fly straight up, upside down and low level. Check out our company's website ( www.topaces.ca); I get to play with 16 civilian Alpha Jets and other aircraft that help train the Canadian Military elements for all kinds of scenarios. You should listen to what some people say instead of pouncing on what they type. You don't have to be "that guy" that contradicts what everyone says. Peace.

It's clear that ERI does not give an advantage, but pilots who are new to the sim may not take the time to understand how to really work the radar. If a "nugget" flies exclusively on a server that supports ERI, and then flies on one that does not support it, he/she will probably have a difficult time manually working the radar. I would like to see this trialed and reviewed on our dedicated server for a few weeks, to see if there's any bugs, public opinions, etc. I personally like the way the Radars have to be manually adjusted, as it's part of my cockpit workflow. It feels good to me to work hard for the kill, rather than expect it, and then scratch my head if the missile didn't splash my bandit. Anyone who has flown the 25 / 25T seriously will tell you that it is one of the busiest cockpits to manage when deploying weapons, and that's what I love about it. So to me, working the F-15 radar is a breeze compared to that. I support the YES vote to allow ERI PS: Let's please keep this "on topic" regarding ERI only. This is not a missile discussion, nor what DCS should have done to make all aircraft realistic. S!

Hi all. Not sure if it's already been said in this post yet, but to add to the discussion of which way to take off and land from: Take Off: Use the Control Tower (F6) at your airport for a taxi clearance. It will tell you which runway to use. Then look down at your HSI and see if you have to taxi left or right. If runway 30 is the active, taxi your plane so that you nose will eventually line up on heading 300. If you line up on Runway 12 for example, then you taxied the wrong way. I'd much rather see a line up of aircraft waiting to take off the same way than a Los Angeles Freeway merge at rush hour! Landing: As for Landing actives, call the the tower while you're inbound and it'll give you that active as well. For the US planes, your ILS will automatically switch (if you land somewhere besides the base you took off from). For the RU Birds, you'll have to know what the airport identifier number is to select the ILS. Use your ILSN / Return Mode to help with your landing pattern (Downwind, Base and Final as applicable). Keep your eyes open for other aircraft in the pattern, and wait your turn. Remember, please do not use the Taxi Way for take offs! This causes more accidents than even the airshow fools crashing at the airport. Take the time to taxi properly. Yes, this shaves some minutes off your fun time, but it'll be worth it. Nothing looks more embarrassing to everyone than seeing someone mow the grass with their aircraft to beat the rush, or plow into 4 taxiing airplanes because of impatience. Most of all, use your eyes when taxiing, taking off and landing. This will also prevent unwanted pile ups. Thanks and happy flying!

Will this Mod work for Black Shark as well? Yes the ABRIS is easy to use, but I use the the pilot in the pit option myself, and while I'm looking at my legs move, I think a quick guide on the knee boards would be helpful... :) S!
