No one escapes in front of the Russian aircraft
Sweep replied to Ragnarok's topic in DCS: Flaming Cliffs
You guys might like/dislike a certain thing, but it still can be more (or less) useful in combat. The real funny thing here is that the Russians are using Westernized displays in their newer aircraft/aircraft upgrades. I saw something that looked like an F-15 SIT page in the Su-30SM. MiG-29K for example, uses a HUD layout similar to...was it F-14D? I forget. It makes me like their newer jets a bit more. :) -

This cockpit would feel pretty nice to me: wrong video (scratch that, found it) There we go: [ame] [/ame] -

There are other (external) colors...and cockpit mods! But yeah, metric and stuff makes it a bit difficult for coordination/navigation... -

All those numbers help you, though! :D I'd like a modern Flanker, even thought it won't happen anytime soon... -
Yeah, nothing beats vertical scan in the Flanker down low...R-73s outta nowhere FTW! :D Too bad the F-15 doesn't have supersearch mode...That'd be a fun fight!

I'm not getting into that in this thread, but I will say this: I'm not "denying" or "discrediting" anyone's work, I appreciate what they're doing with the whole SARH thing, I think its based off feeling and not data though, so it probably won't fly with ED. I disagree; Go get in a Flanker and get on TS with Stuge or the 51st guys (or anyone else who's good with a Flanker). They'll show you what a properly run Flanker flight can do (hint: it kicks a**). I generally don't fly it because I don't know what's going on around me: Its a mix of how it works and a bit of a skill/lack of training thing. :book:

This is sound advice for any game, but especially simulations because crap takes a while to fix... -
I bet you'll fall through the carrier. Maybe one day you'll fall into the hangar bay so you can repair your gear! :megalol:

^^Stuge the teacher.^^ :worthy:  Also, for the rest of you: 104th isn't death for Russian planes - they make you work harder for less result, but its still fun to hop in a Flanker sometimes and fling ETs at people. Then I realize my trade rate is 1:5 and I'm killing my (not-so-)glorious stats... :megalol:

You mean an ER in a chaffstack? :D But anyway, I suppose I meant that myself and a few others don't really have the data to compare it to; I understand that you and ED have more data though, right? -

I do, I can go fly a Flanker on 104th. :) -

Lets put it this way: Everyone here thinks there's an issue, but we have NO DATA to compare it to - we can get as many tacviews and tracks and videos as we want, but it doesn't prove anything. I want this chaff stuff fixed too, but I also want your radar to drop track and never come back when I turn my jammer on. (half joking) -

Chaff does jack-you-know-what head-on. Get past 135 aspect and try again. Edit: I mean below 135... -

You guys already do those workarounds pretty well. -
And thats where the Cats'll slap them in the merge, too! :megalol:

You'll also be much lighter in that configuration, so merging low level would be quite the fun time. Hey look kids, its a 30 DPS nose track, fox 2 inbound! :megalol: Now I want to go try that on 104th... -

You don't win, but you can survive...Or at least I think you can. I'm sure you understand this, but let me say it anyway: The Flanker guys need to get creative if they want to win. Its hard to get creative when you have practically no SA and an ineffective WEZ, but thats that (for now). I'd kill for a modern Flanker - But the odds of that happening are quite low I'm afraid. -

Well why are you going 1v4 to start with? -

^This. I fly high and fast because high mach = survivability, IMO. Sit up there at 35k and mach 2.2...then drop down to 20k and mach 2.0...I think I hit the pressure limit! -
loooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooool That is hilarious! Even if the Rafale had an RCS that low, putting any weapons on increases it by a LOT...

The loadouts are bugged. Honestly, I don't know why you'd want the default loads...Normally in the campaign its like 422 and 3 bags or something silly. The briefed loadouts are what I'd change to (generally 6 120, no Sparrows, 2 AIM-9s and 2 bags - IIRC).

Quora article: Is the MIG-29 a better plane than the F-16?

Hey, I think both the MiG-29 and F-16 can carry those! -

^Exactly, its a system of systems vs a system of systems! -

What was more likely a match in 1990-2010, F-16C Block 40 vs MiG-29A (yes, 9.12A) or F-16A Block 10 vs MiG-29M? :music_whistling: This isn't about comparing "similar" capabilities, this is about match-ups that happened, could have happened, and were thought to have been likely. Guess what, F-16C Block 40/42/50/52 vs MiG-29A is still a realistic scenario that could easily happen right now. There are 0 combat-coded MiG-35 squadrons, there are a LOT of active, combat capable, F-16C/D Block 40-52s squadrons. In the 80s, MiG-29s had BVR first shot, but not first ID - Not that it mattered, GCI/EWR coverage in most areas was probably sufficient for whatever ROEs were in operation. In the early 90s, the F-16s got that first shot capability along with updated radars and what-not - to my knowledge the stock APG-68 had NCTR (there's your first ID, even if its not perfect). I don't know what the IFF was like on the F-16s or if it would have mattered. Remember, most useful conclusions will be drawn from evaluating a scenario of things and not just 1v1 gunzo... -

Why do you think everyone is trying to get ARH AAMs? For lulz? So the MIC can make more money? Or maybe because SARH is so 70s? You know, if it wasn't your missile being susceptible to chaff it'd be your radar...What we have here kinda represents reality, not perfectly, but it gets the feeling right-ish.
