Flying DCS F-18 in the Marianas in VR
TAW_Impalor replied to Laika007's topic in Game Performance Bugs
Marianas is the worst map FPS-vise. I get about half compared to Caucasus. Just curious, what VR headset have you got? If not using SteamVR, it must be Oculus? -
Performance (FPS) loss from 2.7.6 to 2.7.7
TAW_Impalor replied to Limaro's topic in Game Performance Bugs
I concur. 2.7.9 in VR is back to 2.7.6 level, i.e. FPS are 6% better than 2.7.8. Hope they have indeed found the cause and not dialed some settings lower! -

Guys, the Multiplayer VR...What's going on??
TAW_Impalor replied to Perfeckdarkk's topic in Game Performance Bugs
See this thread. Tips on freeing VRAM and symlinks eliminated my stutters on GS, even with old 4670k with 16Gb DDR3: -
Underscaling (SS<100%) + sharpening shader. We already can do this in VR.
-
Yes, both as admin. Joystick IDs are the same, but I downloaded new v208 and v02exp and ran from there (default .cfg), but same result. Uninstalling and reinstalling SteamVR and WMR for SteamVR did not help. I plan to do a clean Windows install, hope that will do it!

What's your Visibility Range? Anything below High will make you see much more details when zoomed, because all it does is moving camera closer.
-
@NobiWanHello. v208. Why wouldn't it connect? Started happening after I changed motherboard. Everything else works normal.
-
Ah, yes, thanks, did not use hand controllers to look for it. So, does it still work? I used to fly with it on DCS 2.5, was working. Just tried with a better CPU, Auto and Forced, and it just drops my FPS from 50 to 35 and gives artifacts. Switched it back off. Also, what does Motion Smoothing on General tab do? I don't see any effect from it.
-
Hi guys, how do I check if motion smoothing works? I remember there was an option in Developers tab of SteamVR, to display an indicator in top left corner. It changed colors, wether it works, or CPU or GPU limited. Now I cannot find that setting...

DCS *in pancake mode* prefers DDR3

@Flappie Hi, what GPU utilization do you see when running DCS on Low at 1080p? -

TAW_Impalor replied to TAW_Impalor's topic in Game Performance Bugs
I posted my settings in the folder with link at the first post. All that such was set. -
Hello! It seems DCS deletes or corrupts the d3dx_user.ini when I temporarily disable your mod in OvGME. Upon the subsequent launch of DCS, I get this error: When I launch DCS again I get only this: Finally, if I re-enable your Mod and launch DCS again, all my settings are lost and replaced with defaults. Should I copy d3dx.ini and/or d3dx_user.ini to my MODS folder to preserve the settings? One more thing, it seems the cockpit sharpening has no effect in the latest OB, do you reproduce? And I go from 51 FPS w/o the mod to 46 with it, which is a pain...

DCS *in pancake mode* prefers DDR3
TAW_Impalor replied to TAW_Impalor's topic in Game Performance Bugs
Did you try downclocking it all the way down to 1066? I can't find how to remove the 'Solution' flag which I originally meant as a sarcasm... -

Hi, no, I am not on a laptop and my CPU (EK loop) and GPU (AIO) run cool. Just tried again in 1080p with RAM at XMP 4000-14 and CPU at 54. I have no idea why, but my hardware only works at full potential when the settings are maxed out (or in VR)! 1. My "Barebone" settings: Frames, Time (ms), Min, Max, Avg 3973, 60000, 62, 87, 66.217 2. DCS Low preset: Frames, Time (ms), Min, Max, Avg 4639, 60000, 62, 109, 77.317 3. DCS High Preset: Frames, Time (ms), Min, Max, Avg 5961, 60000, 90, 108, 99.350 -
DCS *in pancake mode* prefers DDR3
TAW_Impalor replied to TAW_Impalor's topic in Game Performance Bugs
It is a fact that upgrading from 4670k/16Gb DDR3/1080ti to 12900k/32Gb DDR4/1080ti my FPS dropped 50% on 1080p screen. It increased 6% in VR on the same settings. I furter observed inverse relationship between memory bandwidth and FPS on my PC in 1080p. I have no motive to lie about that. I informed the commutiny and devs about this strange fact in hope that it would help debugging the decrease in performance from version to version. -
DCS *in pancake mode* prefers DDR3
TAW_Impalor replied to TAW_Impalor's topic in Game Performance Bugs
I don't think you understood my results. In VR, there GPU is fully utilized, lower clocked memory is detrimental. I think increasing 'eye candy' in 2d will have similar effect. It is with 'barebones' settings in 2d I see a surprising effect that CPU and GPU are idling! And to combat that, on my PC at least, downclocking memory all the way to 1066 (half the SPD) push the performance higher. -

Hello. To reproduce, did you run with my settings (Preset 1 in the Google drive), or yours? -

Same. 60 fps do not suggest I can improve visuals. Why barebone settings run so slow with fast memory, but double the FPS with slow? That is the question. I only fly VR, so the test was rather theoretical.
