  1. For our gen 4 CPUs definitely not. I've been with this game since 2004 and it has always been asking for better and better hardware.
  2. OB 2.7.7 to 2.7.8 shaved 1-2 FPS from my meagre 45 average. But as Bignewy said, we all should just wait for multithread/Vulcan implementation.
  3. If you don't care about rgb, you can find cheaper Ripjaws with same timings here: https://benzhaomin.github.io/bdiefinder/
  4. Yes, that's the one I was hoping to buy, but did not find anywhere in Europe ((. So I ordered Aorus Elite DDR4...
  5. Smart! What motherboard would you recommend? I don't care about rgb or wifi, but plan to overclock 12900k on a custom loop...
  6. I have my eyes on this kit (~400€), but no motherboard list it or anything similar as compatible... Does anyone have it working with 12xxx or know for sure that it will?
  7. I've just given myself three weeks do decide between DDR4 or 5. That's how long to wait for EK waterblock to arrive.
  8. What was your previous CPU? Do you see much difference after upgrade to Alder Lake?
  9. This I know. Except my keyboard has dead Enter button and I maximize DCS with nircmdc in my .bat script )
  10. 1tb is enough, no hardware can play DCS at max settings. So whatever you buy, you'll have to make compromises and numerous tweaks to make it work to your satisfaction.
  11. After maximizing DCS with Alt-Enter, I cannot access left side of the screen with the mouse (to click Close button, for example). Both screenshots came out the same, despite the right one was taken while in full screen mode. The mouse pointer's position is at maximum to left, cannot be moved further. 'Confine to game window' enabled. Switching to full screen helps my fps...
  12. Yes. Uff, I lost track, unfortunately, need to make a list one day, for future installs. Basically, clean up Windows from bloatware and spyware, turn off stuff that hurts DCS, overclock CPU and GPU, config NVidia and DCS for performance. The latest trick was to replace DCS folders with hardlinks.
  13. My 4-core CPU also runs at 90-100% utilization on all cores after I switched to W11. That's how I get 45 fps on GS server (no reprojection). All unneeded background processes killed and other PC optimizations done. I think W11 better distributes load among threads, or maybe DCS is not as single threaded as it used to be.
  14. Wow, this hack does seem to work! Just flew in GS and my shared GPU Memory never went over 0.2 GB (Dedicated has maxed at 10.5/11 GB) and I did not have the slideshows like earlier today on this server. Will test more in the coming days, but fingers crossed! However, googling why this trick works to disable file caching yielded no results.
  15. Oh, sorry, forgot to end with /s! I mean to say the devs never look back ((
  16. Stable was updated to 2.7.7.15038, now there is no difference lol.
  17. I get 50-60 in SP and 40-45 in MP on my aged hardware. I very much want to upgrade my CPU this year, but reading threads like this makes me sad and scared to do that!
  18. To compare performance, I'd just record a track flying in a dense environment (Dubai or Vegas), run FRAPS with it before and after. Bind Pause in FRAPS as start/stop button, and if you are in VR, place the HMD on the desk and center the view beforehand. This should be a decent benchmarking method for any changes you make to config/overclock etc. FRAPS gives you min/max/average in the end of the run...
  19. @Viper1970 I'm on W11 and Target works fine for me. The only small problem is a few seconds delay when it stops the script, because Windows fights disconnection of virtual joystics. I don't do scripts, only UI, but my profile is pretty big (use only one for all my modules). Foxy I don't have, but did love it with Cougar.
  20. Oh, thanks. Did not notice when this setting was added!
  21. Hello. I was trying to showcase DCS to a friend using M2000 Persian Gulf landing quick mission. I did not fly over Vegas for a few years and was shocked how poorly it looks right now! Most buildings are a low-res mess. I remember it looked stunning when the map first came out. Now to properly see a building one must fly very close AND zoom in the view!!! Both VR and non-VR. I first thought it was due to my low settings, but even after changing Terrain Textures to High, Visibility Range to Extreme, removing all mods, repairing the game and deleting all shaders, I got the same result. Please check if you see this. And don't tell be my PC is too old. The game at high settings should look properly even if at 1 FPS. Normally I don't care how buildings look as I fly CAP. But it would annoy me greatly if the devs have dumbed down the rendering to such an extent, to mask the snowballing problems of the poorly written engine. If so, we are really at the end of it's life...
  22. Hello. I am thinking to build a custom loop to heat my room with a passive wall mounted radiator )) Any suggestions for a water pump? It needs to be really quiet but push at least 3L/minute through 2 meter head. Oh, and available in the EU...
  23. With power management on DIMMs and memory controllers on CPU, motherboards are just "wires". But we want the lowest noise and no switching ranks, so only look at 2 DIMM models. Aorus Tachyon is the most future-proof mobo, in my opinion.
  24. Sure, I hope so. Want to order all pieces at once. Right now the RAM support list by Intel is too short: https://www.intel.com/content/dam/www/central-libraries/us/en/documents/xmp-memory-for-intel-core-processors-datasheet-ddr5.pdf
  25. I might be reading this wrong, but full speed for DDR5 is only supported in 2 module configuration. Tridents and Ripjaws were announced as 2x16Gb sets. DCS in the foreseeable future will need 64. So for me it makes no sense to take a plunge, I'd wait another year or so, for 2x32 DDR5 6600 (or more) with good timings...
