Second Sidewinder won't fire, and first always miss.
Dino Might replied to bigjoe_no's topic in DCS: F-5E
Again, confirming the selective jettison switch must be in safe (middle) to launch AIM-9. I have found when only bringing a CAP loadout (2 x AIM-9 + fuel tanks), when I want to dump the bags, just use the emergency jettison button (dumps all pylons except wingtips). I have had no issues with using either AIM-9 following this method. Not sure if this is truly the "right" way to sim, but it works well. Use selective jettison when you are cruising and just want to dump empty rocket pods or fuel tanks but keep the rest of your kit on the pylons. -
I recommend you get working in the mission editor and roll your own. I have been having tons of fun rocket-strafing convoys, dumping mk-82s on APCs, and providing my own CAP against enemy MiG-21s while doing so. There is a huge user-developed script base that works wonders (MIST, GCICAP, CTLD). You can really make some interesting scenarios if you want. The difficulty is putting in enough randomness so you don't know every play in the book as it is happening. Edit to add: Are you sure your game is in fullscreen mode? It is windowed-full by default. I find that in multiplayer, when my framerate is bad, hitting Right-Alt + Enter to put it in fullscreen jumps my FPS back up by about 20-30. This bird is no slouch! Tons of fun in multiplayer. F5 is my favorite module to-date, and I own almost all of them. I routinely play Blue Flag multiplayer now with the F5. It's a serious disadvantage, but more fun than I have had in a while. As for missions, why not make some of your own? My desire to fly the F5 in a busy environment led me to figure out how to implement a lot of the complicated user-developed scripts (which are provided with excellent step by step setups). Now I have a mission for capturing airfields that are protected with AAA and AI CAP MiG21s. It's a heck of a lot of fun having to dogfight my way in with a load of rockets, then smacking some Shilkas before I call in the troop helos. You can tailor make whatever you want with the ME. It's quite fun to learn. As for flying, I have the Gazelle, and while it's a great module, I just can't get into it like I can the F5 and fly for hours on end.

Hahaha. Now to see if you can land it on a building. I was wondering if the tail hook (despite only being for airfields) would actually work or not on the carrier. I'm guessing that interaction gets coded on a per plane basis? Anyways, I'm both happy and a bit sad that we can't break realism too easily in that sense. At the end of the day, I'd much rather this be more sim than arcade.

Agreed. Get it right. We can wait. More screens and videos never hurt, though they may require additional drool cleanup.

Thanks for the replies, everyone. I'll be in touch in the next few days. Trying to figure out my schedule for available time to fly (right now, sitting with a new sleeping baby - gives me time to think up scene layouts, though). I'm sure there are legal issues with Leatherneck using any vids we make with the Top Gun audio (I planned on using the audio straight from the movie), but at the very least, I think they'd get a kick out of it. They might even build some F14 scenes for us while they are doing testing

I figure we'll set up a few multiplayer missions to set up each scene, so that we don't have to fuel and fly out and waste too much time. I've got shadowplay for in-cockpit stuff and can then use track replays to record from different angles. For the scenes that just show F5s, we could start that now (although I'm a bit busy with a new baby, but once I get some flight time...). I'll start thinking up the mission setups so that we can go right into filming short clips. I figure if we do about 10-20 min flights at a time, that will keep it easy enough to look through the tracks and pull out the footage we want. I think we'll probably start with just straight copying some scenes from the movie, but would rather do some development of our own scenes to fix some of the re-used footage that didn't quite match what was supposed to be going on.

There is already plenty of opportunity for MiG21s to sneak up on F15s and Mirages in the canyons, even when up against the AMRAAM spam, not to mention the incredible ease of notching and breaking lock. I anticipate the extreme range advantage can be made null with a good pilot usin terrain and patience.

With the F14 likely delivered within a year, I'm looking for people interested in filming some flight scenes to recreate some of the favorite top gun moments (but better in some cases). I know, I know, it's an unrealistic and cheesy movie, but I think it would be a heck of a fun time to recreate the first and last aerial scenes of the movie, and then just dub the movie audio in over the DCS video. So...who is in for some goofing around? :pilotfly:

I would really like to know if we can get individual dispensing. I may macro it on the Hotas like you have set up on your keyboard. I like realism, but for some things I am willing to cut corners.

I spent a whole lot of time doing inverted fly bys of the tower at over 400 knots and I am happy to report that the data on the MiG are inaccurate and this thing handles inverted flight like a champ. Still no sighting of Penny Benjamin, though.

+1 here. I spent about 5 hours on it tonight. Can't get enough. Also, MiG-28 skin is tops. I'm going to watch Top Gun tomorrow when I wake up. Then I'll be back to flying this thing.

Check antivirus settings and run DCS as administrator - I needed to run as admin to allow the patch for some reason.

The Magics eat flares like Pacman eats white dots. I'm not sure the other IR missiles are that much better, but my suspicion is that the P5 and the Magic are the worst of the bunch.

Well, with the zoom function, the lack of IFF shouldn't be too much of a problem. I know, it's not realistic, but because of the difficulty in seeing aircraft that are less than a mile away, I still use it a lot, and it is fairly simple to tell a MiG-21 from a SU-27 from a F-15. Now, on servers where everyone gets to fly whatever they want, this will be mayhem, but on servers like Blue Flag or strict MiG-21 vs F-5, it should be no issue. I would like if they put IFF in the fighter, but I don't see it as a big problem without it. I prepurchased a while ago, and the only thing I'm less than happy about is the wait. To be clear, not complaining - I'm just admitting that I'm impatient to fly this thing! :)

Excellent. Thanks. I wanted to get another copy of FC3 this weekend while I could use all the bonus $ ETA, I got it figured out - I had to have the new purchase bound to my account BEFORE I could bind it to a friend's account. The purchase was simple enough to do and license management page was straight forward after I got the serial # check button figured out.

I got SR to work yesterday, but today, when I run the standalone client, no windows open up. Rather, I just get the windows "thinking" spinning circle forever, and I get 3 processes in the task manager SR-RadioClient.exe. Screenshot attached. None of these three can be force stopped, and I have to restart my computer to shut them down. I can open up overlay, but no radios are working, given 0.0.0 freq and "no radio tag" because the client is obviously not running correctly to allow me to enter an IP. I have uninstalled and reinstalled about 5 times. No change. I have checked the export.lua file on each install. I have made sure appropriate files are in scripts folder under saved games. I can't figure this out. Is anyone else having a similar problem?

Good day. I am wondering if it is possible to purchase a module as a gift for another player using my own account to take advantage of using my bonus points. Do I buy a second copy of the module I already own and give him the product key? Just looking for some clarification on how to go about this before I drop money for a product key that won't be useful to anyone (given that I already own the module in question). Thanks!

No catapult on the SU33 takeoff. The carrier uses a ramp instead of a catapult system and relies on the low stall speed of the planes to be able to take off.

Still rooting hard for the 15th, here. Even though I was disappointed last Friday because of my unfulfilled anticipation, I get the excitement of another week of anticipation. So for those who want to put off thinking about it, you're missing out on the HYPE TRAIN! [ame] [/ame]

I was watching the T-38 training videos posted about stall characteristics and landing. How similar are the F-5 and T-38 in flight characteristics? While they seem to be brothers, or at least close cousins, I'm wondering if the small differences will translate to any kind of different procedures. Also...looks like nothing this week - official patch notes don't mention anything about the F-5. Next week, maybe?

I plan to use it mostly A2A in the hoped for MiG21 v F5 servers. I have a lot more fun with WVR fights than the slammer party that is 104th. I quite enjoy when they run missions restricted to AIM-7 and 27Rs. I'm hoping I can get enough of my crew from another game into this sim so we can field some 2v2 or 3v3 MiG21 v F5 engagements.
