Hopefully one day I will get an aerospace MS so I can make full sense of this.

Are there data available on wing stress / failure in incorrect sweep config using the emergency override (e.g., undersweep for high speed, high g)? I wonder how failures will be modeled and if there is a lot of info on how this would play out. I will, of course, have to try it in the game to see what happens, but I'd like to know if something similar would or has happened in realistic testing. https://xkcd.com/242/

F14D would be a great follow on module. But I still want the A/B regardless of whether the bombcat would ever get to DCS. I keep thinking back to when games like Tomcat Alley were state of the art. What we are getting now is unbelievable by comparison. I've been trying to get people interested in DCS, and I will probably try to do the same as you, Scorp, by getting a few copies to get people into multicrew with me.

You would choose a SWO slot over a Pilot slot? Heresy!

Mav, Please remove me from the list of Blue players this round. I will be unavailable due to new commitments. Thanks. -
Cobra, you guys keep doing your thing. Most of us appreciate what you do and will show you when we buy another of your products. You guys could be working at national labs or other high salary places with the skills you have devoted to this enterprise, which is really more than just a game. I'm glad you are doing what you are doing, and my hope is that you and your team get enough out of your endeavors to make them worthwhile to you. They certainly are worthwhile to most of us.

I would love to have the LANTIRN capability, but it doesn't have a chance of changing my decision on whether to buy. The core of F-14 play will, of course, be nighttime touch and gos at dangerously low fuel levels and communicating with F-5 pilots. What more do you need? I'm also a bit concerned that they are being chided more about the LANTIRN capability than if there will be a beach volleyball map and asset pack (ball, jeans, and baby oil are key elements) included.

Like most, I am tempted to just jump in the B and not worry about it. But I think I am going to force myself to start with the A and suffer the consequences of my terrible piloting. I sincerely hope that the BuddySpike crew puts the F-14A on Red Side for Blue Flag. It would move some more people to that side (desperately needed), and you could have the F-5 v F-14 matchups we've always dreamed of in a nice objective-based mission environment. If they give F-14 to the Blue Side and don't shift F-5 over to Red, I will riot in the streets (after flying my F-14 non-stop for about 5 days or so). So, question to you all: Who is going to start their cockpit familiarization on final approach to the carrier? "Where's the gear handle? Flaps? Flaps anyone? Why does this guy keep yelling "power" at me? Jester, why do you have your hands on the ejection handles? I've got th" *SLAM* *emergency sirens*

Thoughts after the campaign

Recommend modding the missions to pop smoke markers for these locations. It's not like it will affect the AI, and it makes the missions much easier to follow. -
I finally got back to blue side in Blue Flag yesterday. Took the F-5 out today and went 4 for 1 against SU27s in them-thar hills around Sochi. Got very lucky a few times, but I'll take anything I can get. The F-5 rocks! I also ended up hitting friendly ground targets twice because I didn't know we had captured particular cities while I was enroute. I blew the hell out of a bunker in Bzyb city with a great Snakeeye run. :)

And tear your plane apart and send the rest flying off the front of the deck. Sure. But they'd probably have to make a whole new damage model just so you could rip the ass end out of your Tiger like that.

Multicrew in this beast is going to be so much fun. One question, was I hearing an RWR tone in that video? Watching on a phone with family blaring the TV in the background. Hard to make out.

No special method other than looking for him and, if it's another player, talking to each other. I usually have to call out my altitude and heading to help my friend find me when we are flying together and he loses sight of me. Knowing altitude and heading usually is enough if we're within 5NM of each other.

This is astounding! What great workmanship. Envious does not even begin to describe my feelings about your setup right now.

Thank you so much for the offer! I'm in the US, however, but if I'm ever in the area, I'll shoot you a PM! Same goes for you if you ever come across the pond to Maryland. I'm hoping to build my pit in the next few years, and I expect there will be some kind of VR integration solution for it by then. I must eventually have both :joystick:

I'll be happy to play test the pre-pre-pre alpha version. Cannot wait for this module!

I'll have to go check it out at one of those stores. Thanks, I didn't know demos were available at those places. My biggest worry is that it feels similar to 3d projectors and 3d movie theaters. I hate those (just don't feel right to me, because it's a bunch of 2d planes, one behind another, with noticeable flattening within each plane. I suspect that the Rift VR is much better than the movie theater with glasses stuff, right? Also, I've heard of some systems with front facing camera. Do those have PIP or some switch to change to that camera so you could look for switches in your physical pit?
-
I want to try VR, but not willing to invest without knowing what it is like. I really like my track IR setup now with a projector that gives me a 9 ft screen. I still get a sense of being in the cockpit, and I'm hoping to build my own clickable pit for the upcoming F14. If VR gets a good solution to work with home physical pits, then I'm definitely going to convert. I may try to build two seat pit for the F14 with a blank back seat and have the RIO run VR. Would fix my problem figuring out how to let the RIO look around separately.

Recently, I have been noticing a difficulty getting tone against MiG21s even rear aspect in afterburner less than 2km away. I suspect net code issues, or something changed in past couple of weeks. I double checked P5s and not Ps loaded. This has been going on on the ACG cold war server.

You've gotten great advice on the three aircraft you were asking about. But, we need to know more about what time period aircraft you want. WWII: Get the Bf-109K-4 - lovely plane, looks great, flies better. Korea: MiG-15 is really fun, F-86 has more A/G capability Vietnam: MiG-21 is fantastic (one of my favorites, and what got me hooked on LN's work). I still prefer the F-5 because it's just got the WOW factor for me in the looks department. I also think the F-5 is much more A/G capable and simpler to fly. Modern: M2000 for A2A - only non-FC3 modern jet fighter, and I prefer the full fidelity. For Strike, A-10C for CAS and long-loiter missions. Viggen is great, but it will take some serious study to learn how to use the navigation and computer systems. Consider that the Viggen is best used for pre-planned strikes. The A-10C is better for targets of opportunity and carrying a lot of ordnance on a lengthy sortie. Also, the A-10C can do air to air refueling (fun to try, painful to master). but, later this year, there will only be one answer to the question of "which aircraft to buy" F-14! It's a no-brainer. Anyone who doesn't buy it is obviously off his meds and should be immediately checked into the nearest mental institute.

GAR-8 = Guns Are superioR - sideways infinity. Seriously, don't use it unless you really want a headache, or to go full-period 'Nam era.

Bought full price. Regret nothing. If it does come out on sale, I'd put it at the top of your list. It's a true dogfighter. Simple to learn, difficult to master. A2G role is also very fun.
