  1. Good idea but you still need to take you hands of the HOTAS which will decrease efficiency compared to using the HOTAS. Think you're best off choosing buttons that you never really need to grasp for in an emergency (right mouse button is vital for quickly grasping for all sorts of buttons and levers, eject, landing gear etc!) and map them to the keypad though I might use your setup for the warthog. Try mapping mouse buttons to HOTAS and play with it for a while and I think like me you'll realize advantageous it can be sometimes. And in response to the other guys question yeah clouds are pretty funky in 1.5.5 fixed for 1.56 though I think but with more performance problems for the system.
  2. It's sooo much better and convenient to use the HOTAS buttons on the throttle as mouse input than it is to use the mouse itself but yes mapping controls to the UI layer means you have to sacrifice buttons that you would normally use to do important jobs with the HOTAS and for some reason mapping the mouse wheel to the HOTAS makes things very slow if you need to do things quickly so I ended up mapping things that needed quick mouse wheel action to individual buttons on the keyboard. It was worth all the messing about to be able to use the HOTAS instead of the mouse though and after s while you'll realize it counts as another advantage of VR. Mig and black shark I am very happy with my new control set up, using the mouse sucks compared to using your head and using the HOTAS -which is actually more efficient than using your hands would be- is great for when you need to press important buttons quickly. I got it working great with the black shark and the MiG though it might be more difficult to change settings with the HOG as it feels a shame to mess with the authenticity of the default warthog setup.
  3. You have 2 1080's now? Cause Ithought you had a 980Ti SLI setup?
  4. As much as I appreciate take off, flying, and landing I dont think flight sims would hold my interest if there was no combat side to it though people have made some good points as to why it would enhance the overall DCS experience. I just personally wouldnt fly them for long. In that sense I am not a real flight sim enthusiast I guess and actually find it rather perplexing why anybody would want to undertake flights in a simulator, flying from one country to another in real time? It fascinates me to be honest that I am missing what such people get out of it, and I'd really like to know! I think its a almost a form of meditative relaxation for them! For me the combat side of DCS, is what I turn to when I have learned how to take off, fly, and land, and though I do love simply flying around Vegas and would love to try some civillian airplanes I know they wouldnt hold my attention for long so I dont think I personally would buy them but it would be cool to see them implemented.
  5. Did it maybe reset your graphics LUA super spampling configuration. Can't say I noticed anything like that and I hate things getting too blurry in VR so I think I would have noticed. I noticed in DCS Nevada I can crank the visibility settings up very high seemingly without any problems but with 1.5.5 doing the same thing degrades performance pretty rapidly。
  6. If I don't get second sound card how does it run on just the one? Is the jetseat 'plug and play' or am I going to have to buy new sound cards and software for that too as with the BK? Really I just want something I can buy and that's it, without having to buy a s*it ton of other assorted soft/hardware! After all I now have a warthog, pedals, discarded track IR, VR, and now this! I need to be able to look my wife in the eyes and say, this is really the last thing I now need to complete me! No more buying after this! OK update I bought the Jetseat lol managed to find a place in country! Would still appreciate some answers to the questions regarding setup though and how one goes about it!
  7. Jetseat seems limited in what games it can support, is there no way to get the buttkicker running quietly or is it always going to be a neighbor/baby waking liability?
  8. Also seems as if I will need a second sound card, does that need to be slotted inside my PC or can it be plugged in externally?
  9. So I still need to hook it up to a speaker? I was just wondering then if If I can get it working with the vives or any headphones? The reason I ask is because even playing my games on the loud speakers is probably going to be too loud and I will probably need to quickly shut up when the baby sleeps and in the night time? So with the jetseat is there a way to get it working with headphones?
  10. That's the thing it sounds quite a pain to get working properly especially if you want to do it properly and use the correct software so its not just responding to every sound there is.
  11. Ah thanks man, 2 lol! Just wondering how much it will run me when I factor in the shipping!
  12. Can you tell me a bit more about it and how it compares to the buttkicker and how it feels in game?
  13. Ok it's actually called a buttkicker. I am seriously mulling getting one for VR but I was just wondering what they are like, and can they be run quietly as I have a young baby and if it means waking him, then I will never be able to use it! Also for VR I use the VIVEs integrated headphones and was wondering if the buttkicker can be set up to run through these HP or will I have to buy some new ones which would mean more money. This is the one I am planning on getting http://www.thebuttkicker.com/gamer2 Thanks in advance
  14. I'm afraid I am way too much of a noob to appreciate flight sim comedy!
  15. Ha well after all was said and done I went with the MI8, which I couldnt resist at half price. To be honest It was last on my wish list of all the chopper modules but I havent even downloaded it yet and its already growing on me! I think if I took one thing from this thread its that if its a DCS module you pretty much cant go wrong!
  16. I'm hoping seeing that I already have controllers and basestations that when Gen 2 comes out it wont be that expensive for me and I will be able to just buy the new headset! Thats another reason I feel safer with the VIVE because I'm pretty sure for gen 2 Occulus will discard constellation tracking whereas the vive tracking is so flawless I cant imagine why they would replace their current tech.
  17. And I can vouch that as of today its running very well, I'd be interested to try a RIFT because I cant imagine theres that much in it anymore.
  18. Do they compensate by creating missions against softer targets and easier missions than the black shark?
  19. I would roll back to 1.5.5 to be honest as performance is better. Flashes are darker now because the steam Vr background is darker. If the fps is having problems either settings are too high or 1.5.6 is having problems as many have reported. No idea about the super sampling as for myself DCS has never looked better in VR since the brightness bug got fixed performance too. The menus flashing is one reason I have noticed a big improvement as they no longer flash anymore.
  20. I'm sorry Mig 28? Have you got a link for that cause I've never heard of it and cannot find it anywhere! If you mean the mig21 I already have that module and like it very much!
  21. Anything you would specifically recommend from all of the russian modules currently on sale?
  22. Well the Vive actually but yes of all the modules in VR nothing is quite like the Black Shark! I think this is because you are closer to the ground so it feels faster but also because you have such great control over the aircraft and its very instantly gratifying. If you fly past a target all you have to do is swivel round and you're back on him again. In VR you really get an instictive feeling for how to fly on a more intuitive level, all of the neck craning frustration of Track IR is alleviated and with a good HOTAS system with rudder pedals you actually feel like a black shark attack helicopter. Its like being a god damned flying terminator! Flying through vegas swinging in and out, up and around skyscrapers is as fun as combat missions are to be honest you cant help crying out in excitment at times, or laughing gleefully/crazily at near misses or horrendously foolish but epic mistakes. You hit the eject moments before exploding and float down to earth with a big smile on your face! Yup this game was created for VR and even for just DCS alone its worth every penny! Think maybe an old world war 2 fighter (spitfire) might also be amazing in terms of fun and excitement but just wondering if the spitfire (or any of the WW2 planes) is ready yet and if there are real combat missions designed for it? VR is a big part of why I made this thread to be honest as I wanted something nimble and aggressive!
  23. I'm not imagining it, definately a vast improvement because before there were flashes all the time in menus when for example rearming or refueling. Its almost perfect in that regard now but like I said in the OP there are times when the flash will rear its ugly head at the begging of a very intensive mission but its so uncommon now that its basically a non issue whereas before it was always at least once every mission in flight. Vegas would always give me a flash at least once every free flight now I dont seem to get any (touch wood). Of course I might just be insane or lucky and soon everything will start flashing again but I dont think so. It does look better as well. I think its because the brightness has gone back to normal. I complained about it a few weeks ago but the color just looks alot more natural now. Gonna try that draw distance bump now! Be aware though zafgev I am playing on DCS version 1.5.5, anyone tell me if this has made 1.5.6 any better perfomance wise?
  24. SteamVR Beta Updated (1487714385) February 21 - Programmer Joe The SteamVR Beta has been updated with the following changes. Developer: Always show both Enable and Disable DirectMode buttons in Settings regardless of what mode we think the headset is in. Improved quality of supersampling (applications that render much higher resolution than the recommended resolution). Added a slider to the developer settings page to set supersampling amount between 0.8x-2.4x the recommended resolution.
  25. The dreaded grey flashes dont ever seem to happen anymore except at the beggining of a particularaly active mission, and compared to before its now basically a non issue. Dosent seem to happen when my plane explodes any more and before at this point it would happen all the time. Dont want to count chickens too early but it seems good, also I might be crazy but I think DCS looks better now, due to the brightness bug being fixed and better quality SS. Anyone else notice or diffrence or am I just on placebo?
