No matter how low or fast I fly, I keep catching missiles from the Moscow carrier. My Viggen tracks never play properly and it would take way too long at my up speeds to upload the video, so I've attached a screenshot. As you can see I'm at Mach 1, 30 m above the water, the highest I've been since crossing the shoreline. Directly above the midpoint of the 24 km arc on the radar is the dot that represents the Moscow (I know it's really tough to see) and that big black spot under the 5 degree pitch line on the hud is the missile that has come to mess up my hair. I'd really love it if anyone can help me diagnose what's going on. I had been consistently completing this mission successfully, I've taken a break for about a week and today I'm zero-for-three, with this being the lowest and fastest (slowest was 875, and they were both 40m altitude). Thanks.

Is it common for a planning cell to create flight plans during combat operations, or is it just in unusual or very specific situations?
-
Thanks QuiGon, as always I appreciate the info :) The most recent time I remember seeing a conversation about who makes the flight plan was when someone had suggested it was done by the ground crew, so it makes sense that the correction was that the flight plan was made by *a* pilot, not *each* pilot. Thanks for the info on the need for a reason for low altitude/high airspeed too, guess I should wait for radar warning rather than dropping low just in case. Thank you to renhanxue too, it's good to know that when there was a need for pilots to fly low it was up to their judgement to decide how low they could be. It makes sense too, when I was editing flight plans to reflect my preferred altitude I was unsure of the altitude I should set because I felt safe flying over flat terrain with few trees at 20m, but over unveven terrain with a lot of trees, powerlines etc I often felt like less than 40m was unsafe.

Hi all, I have some questions about aspects of flight planning in the Viggen that I hope you might help me with. 1) IRL would the flight lead create the flight plan for the other pilot/s in their flight? I know I've seen people say the pilot makes his own flight plan, but I don't see how missions could go smoothly if each pilot was working off a different flight plan, but then again I can't imagine an efficient way for the flight lead's flight plan to be uploaded to each a/c in turn either. 2) Would a flight plan creator need a specific reason to set a particularly high or low altitude or a speed higher than cruise speed? I'm most comfortable under 60m over land and 80m over water, but I don't know if I'd need to justify this beyond 'personal preference' in the real world. Similarly, I'm more comfortable flying at 800 kms + when fuel isn't tight, but I don't know if this would be acceptable in the real world. Thanks for reading :)

I don’t think this radar tracks, so it should let you lock the position it’s in at a given time, but when it moves (as a/c tend to) it will no longer be at the designation point.
-
These are the last items in the “radar” section of the controls. There are no default keybinds for them. T0 is the default starting point, so you would pull the fix trigger over the first detent to t1 to allow you to designate the location of the radar fix point or target, and then you’d pull it over the second detention to TV to lock it.

I think the same as for the initial start ("Start system - on", fourth from the bottom in "motor") worked for me once, but that was a while ago and I could be mistaken.

I asked a similar question here and a couple of people said there are lighting changes in 2.5 that might help with target spotting. I spoke about this in another thread I can't find now as well, and someone said that one issue with spotting targets in 1.5 is that their size is determined by pixel count, so the higher the screen resolution, the smaller the target. I reduced my resolution from 1440p to 1080p and found spotting targets easier. I believe Lao Fei Mao is talking about the graphics in 2.x, since they are speaking about the Vegas map. May I ask which a/c you're flying? I wound up solving my target spotting issues by switching from the Su-25T to the Viggen because I found it much easier to spot targets from <100m altitude rather than 200-500m. Here's hoping you don't have to buy another module to solve your problem. EDIT: Apologies, I inferred that you were asking about ground targets. If your question is about air targets I’m afraid much of this post is irrelevant.

That seems like the consensus smart move. Perhaps something I should have worked out for myself haha
-
Apologies for the misunderstanding, I should have said "mini campaign" to begin with. Ah ok, thanks for explaining. I'll give the Viggen a rest until the merge and try again after that.
-
Thank you all for replying. Nice to know I'm not the only one having issues with this, I'll probably give the Warthog a break for a while, and when I come back I will try a different altitude, thanks for the suggestion :)

Have you been able to take off successfully in the first campaign mission (The Hunt for Ivan)? When I first attempted the mission I took off ok, but every time since (10+ attempts) I get elevon failure, sometimes coupled with massive system failure, or the plane nosedives as soon as afterburner stage 3 is disengaged. I've tried keeping afterburner 3 on for varying lengths of time and I've tried many different stick positions between neutral and all the way back but none of them keep the plane from diving for the ground. I have confirmed in different modules and games that my HOTAS is working properly. I also found that in several of the single missions I needed to delete one waypoint or else the waypoint wouldn't cycle to the correct landing airfield. Are you having these problems?

In the tutorial "Takeoff and Basic Handling", the instructions cease after the instructor says to level out at 12000 feet. I've tried climbing to 15000 ft, descending to 5000 ft and a lot of different speeds. The only time he has responded was to tell me to recover speed when it got way above 300 knots, but even then he said nothing more. Has anyone else experienced this? Any idea how I can fix it? Thanks in advance

I'm working off memories of explanations people gave me and I'm no expert so I don't know how accurate this is, but when I was trying to apply the Shkval in the Su-25T, I remember people talking about that sensor being contrast dependent, and people mentioned their frustration at having locked onto trees or rocks as a result, and I think I remember locking on to a boulder or something myself too, so maybe DCS already contains an algorithm for a contrast dependent lock?
-
Wow, that's interesting to know. I guess the Shkval system wasn't an option... :P

Thanks QuiGon, as you figured out I did mix those up. Clearly The Force is strong with you - apologies, I’ve wanted an excuse to say that since I first saw your username

Thanks. I didn’t understand why Mavericks were a big deal before but now I’m starting to get it. Clearly they are a very versatile weapon.
-
When I read the instructions in the manual I thought it might need a lock to fire. So in real life you can’t just boresight it at a point on the ground?
-
Well when you put it like that it makes sense! Ta :)

It seems like the Rb 75 Maverick is superior to the Rb 05 in accuracy, range, targeting (because I suck at guiding the Rb 05) and mounting options. Does the Rb-05 have any advantages over the Rb 75? In a situation like this, would each pilot choose his own loadout, or would it be acceptable for him to modify that given to him, or is that the decision of someone on a higher pay grade?

Thanks for posting that Javelina1, at least we know now and Wags has communicated the change directly.
-
SkateZilla’s answer tells us the expected timeframe Wags mentioned hasn’t changed, that’s enough for me.
-
+1 When we’re told “weeks” and then “months”, the latter looks like a revision of the former.

In the "Moscow Takedown" mission, when I fly to L1 as indicated it seems to lead me to a hostile airfield. Is that the case or am I missing something? In "Hunting the Hunters" L1 just seems to lead to a place in the sea. Can someone please help me work out what's going on? I have done each mission multiple times and had the described experience every time, whether I wait for the waypoint to cycle to L1 normally or I manually select it. I'm afraid my tracks turn out broken so I can't provide those, and my "up" bandwidth is pathetic, so uploading the recording isn't possible either.

I'll post this link "https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=197414" here as I hope it's a good summary of who said what, including a reply by SiThSpAwN. Please note the hyperlink in the OP that brings up the fb post.
