  1. Will the LJDAM be in game? It would be great for moving targets: A-10 Successfully Drops Laser-Guided GBU-54
  2. If it has to be Ukrainian... :D My Dream Islands
  3. It's A-10C, serial number 82-0646, from 81st Fighter Squadron. I think they are stationed at Hogsmeade... :pilotfly:
  4. A-10C maintenance "minigame": 127th AMXS Skills Competition The full time technicians of the 127th Aircraft Maintenance Squadron have developed a unique training blitz which combines job skills with friendly competition on the flight line and in the hangars. Crew chiefs of the 191st AMXS squadron worked in teams of four, competing at tasks such as towing aircraft, changing tires, and adding necessary lubricants and fluids to the A-10 attack aircraft. Click here to see a video of the action Huh, he said "lubricant"...
  5. That we'll get only PGU-15/B TP? ;)
  6. I guess somebody violated an NDA!!! LINK to fullsized image! :smartass:
  7. Well, you can download HD-resolution mp4 files from YouTube, Note 1 is 56 MB and Note 2 is 128 MB, so they're not too compressed. But you loose all the switch notes on the second video, and I think that's one of the reasons why they haven't been uploaded yet - ED is probably looking into how to add notes directly on video, not afterwards on YouTube. I might be wrong though. :)
  8. After reading some info on A-10C upgrade, I checked the screenshots and noticed something: DCSW's A-10C will be equipped with AN/AAR-47(V)2 Electro-Optic Missile Warning and Laser System. Compare to: Article about AN/AAR-47 infrared missile / laser warning system on Warthognews. Am I correct? Does this mean a new panel in cockpit too? Will the system be able to automatically deploy countermeasures? More info on system: AN/AAR-47 Electro-Optic Missile Warning and Laser System Manufacturer page AN/AAR-47 Product Data Sheet, PDF I guess the version installed in A-10C is AN/AAR-47(V)2, the baseline AN/AAR-47 did not provide laser warning and is a much older design.
  9. Will engine stalls and engine disturbance envelope be modelled? I have read several Flying Safety fiscal reports for A-10 accidents. Engines seem to be the main culprit, and many of these problems are pilot inflicted - flying at very high AOA and low speed, departed flight... Several instances: Flying Safety, Fiscal Year 2002 Class B Mishap: A-10 compressor stall, overtemp. During a BFM MQT sortie, the mishap aircraft was flown into a slow speed, high AOA flight regime. The MA experienced a compressor stall with high ITT] indications. The MP shut down the mishap engine and flew an uneventful single engine approach and landing. ---- Pilots and their wingmen are doing outstanding jobs handling engine-related emergencies. Six of the seven Class Bs involved serious engine damage, and all six jets were recovered uneventfully. We need to continue to focus emergency procedure training on these types of mishaps and have a solid gameplan in mind every time we fly. A single-engine approach and landing are not "normal" by any stretch, so table top, 1-G discussions about yaw rates, flight parameters and cockpit indications are invaluable. Time and gas should also be allocated for training for these contingencies whenever possible. Flying Safety, Fiscal Year 2004 Class B mishap: The mission was planned and flown as a single-ship air combat maneuver attack sortie. On the fourth engagement, the pilot rolled right and (momentarily) flew the mishap aircraft into the engine disturbance envelope. Preexisting damage to the compressor blades resulted in the mishap engine experiencing a minor compressor stall. The mishap pilot shut down the engine and recovered the aircraft uneventfully. Flying Safety, Fiscal Year 2007 Class B numbers four, seven, and eight were all compressor stalls, at least 2 of which occurred during low altitude operations. These investigations are ongoing. The overall trends appear to be an increased number of compressor stalls, slat failures and gun malfunctions. Though materiel aspects certainly contributed to these trends, there are other elements where pilots and maintenance can help mitigate the risk. Flying Safety, Year in review. There's a chapter on A-10 in each. Flying Safety - 2009 Flying Safety - 2008 Flying Safety - 2007 A-10 Flight Mishap History Mishap and Event Classifications Classify mishaps by total direct mishap cost and the severity of injury/occupational illness. 1.10.1. Class A Mishap. A mishap resulting in one or more of the following: 1.10.1.1. Direct mishap cost totaling $1,000,000 or more. 1.10.1.2. A fatality or permanent total disability. 1.10.1.3. Destruction of a DoD aircraft (Attachment 1). NOTE: A destroyed UAV/UAS is not a Class A mishap unless the criteria in paragraphs 1.10.1.1. or 1.10.1.2. are met. 1.10.2. Class B Mishap. A mishap resulting in one or more of the following: 1.10.2.1. Direct mishap cost totaling $200,000 or more but less than $1,000,000. 1.10.2.2. A permanent partial disability. 1.10.2.3. Inpatient hospitalization of three or more personnel. Do not count or include individuals hospitalized for observation, diagnostic, or administrative purposes that were treated and released. 1.10.3. Class C Mishap. A mishap resulting in one or more of the following: 1.10.3.1. Direct mishap cost totaling $20,000 or more but less than $200,000. ...
  10. That's a colour? ;) Are the circuit breakers functional?
  11. Yeah, Jetstream was definitely the best airforce documentary I've seen. Movie Speed & Angels also comes to mind, but it focuses a bit more on personal stories of two F-14 cadets. Real Top Guns is a bit more like Jetstream, about Australian airforce, but not nearly as good. And I'm watching Carrier right now, but there's very little about aviation, flying, or even the Navy up to part 4 (of 10). IMAX: Fighter Pilot - Operation Red Flag was abysmal, or even worse. Fake, fake, fake, and no valuable information whatsoever, because you question everything you see. OK, some nice wide angle shots of flying, but that's it.
  12. I must say after a very quick test charts for ejection don't hold up in FC2, A-10A. 30 degree dive, 350 KTS airspeed, ejected at 1000 feet (radar alt), slammed into ground before chute opened. Twice. And checked parameters in track. According to chart I should survive 500 feet ejection. Seat really seems underpowered, and chute doesn't open quickly enough. Also, there is absolutely no slow down of forward movement, which should happen due to drag.
  13. As far as I know ACES II has much simpler ejection sequence compared to Russian K-36D Zvezda, which is the only ejection seat with attitude correction. As you can see, ACES II ejections occur at almost level flight, with relatively low sink rate on your videos. And even Zvezda ejections, although at much higher bank / pitch angles, don't have excessive sink rate, which is what your FC2 ejection shows. I haven't tested ejection seat performances compared to data chart, but I wouldn't be surprised if it's not that far off, besides attitude correction for Zvezda.
  14. Thank you for the quick answer. I just wondered because right now newest units seem to be at least a decade older than A-10C. I know that in reality a lot of older aircraft still fly around. Unless their wings fall off. :) Will new weapons modelled for A-10C ( WCMD, JDAM, SDB?, newer Mavericks...) be available to AI aircraft that can carry them IRL?
  15. What, no water fountain? :)
  16. F-16 models are denoted by sequential block numbers to denote significant upgrades. F-16 Fighting Falcon variants
  17. Ejection sequence for ACES II, A-10 manual, 1988: That's a lot of things to model them all correctly. I think they will be implemented in DCS: ACES II module. :)
  18. Simple question. A-10C's first combat deployment was late 2007. Does this mean that DCS world will be updated to approximately that date? Will we be getting new AI aircraft, helicopters and ground vehicles? It would be strange to fly a A-10C in an environment without F-22, F-15E, F/A-18E/F, newer F-16C/D Blocks, and their new munitions. Is this planned for the release of DCSW, or a subsequent patch?
  19. Simulating the simulated battle? A bit too abstract for me. :D
  20. Here's a PDF conversion of that Soviet Army booklet about A-10: Samoljet A-10 Thanks Namenlos Ein! Not very useful (for me at least), but still interesting. I realised we're missing the main book A-10 pilot should know! A-10 Pilots Book, 1977 :music_whistling:
  21. Maybe I should make a separate topic with all A-10 related documents? First post would be modified to include list of all links and brief descriptions. I know that all of these documents have already been "found", even on this forum, but they get buried rather quickly. And it's difficult to use "Search" if you don't know exactly what you are looking for. Words like "Manual" are used too often here to help. And maybe the mods could make it Sticky, if it proves valuable enough. :)
  22. A-10 Flight Manual Small file (25MB), cleaned background, with all chapters and sub-chapters bookmarked: A10A Flight Manual OCR2.pdf I had a lot of problems with OCR, so the text is "kind of" searchable, there are many mistakes in text, so I kept jpg format for pages. If you want to quote a text from it just select and copy it - there's a transparent text overlaying the picture. It isn't perfect but it's usable for reading on screen, without the bookmarks the manual really looks messy. It took a lot more time than I expected... Specially charts at the end, bookmarking that was a bit masochistic. :P
  23. Wow, thanks for the video! I think the camera doesn't really reflect what pilot hears, it's not under the helmet, and tiny microphones distort even pleasant musical performance to distorted noise many times. At the beginning the engine of the other plane taking off are clearly heard above the noise of pilot's own engine (which is at idle at the time). So I think in some situations sounds from the outside (loud ones) could be heard.
  24. It will take a bit more time than I thought, text is badly scanned so Adobe Acrobat's OCR doesn't recognise it properly. I will make a smaller size PDF for on-screen reading, so I will also rotate the "landscape" pages for easier viewing.
  25. Anyone interested in searchable or printable A-10A manual? I adjusted levels and cleaned it up, and I'm planning to OCR it (for copying and searching). And maybe I'll make an index too, at least for major chapters.
