  1. IL2 BoS does (and wait for their release this month!), but graphics aren't everything, I like the kind of equilibrium we have in DCS regarding the different features and great aircraft. I wasn't tempted by CAP, it looked really more an arcade than a sim, just a matter of personal preference of course, could be fun sometimes.
  2. Bug tracker is also a ghost town... there was such an active clean-up in March, very promising after the long "winter" of this great module, and it seems to have subsided to another winter ;) Are you guys up to something, should we expect a surprise? :D
  3. Very instructive, thanks!
  4. Well, check the few posts above, perhaps you have the same problem I had by leaving the FFB setting? Because of that, when I was using the trim, I had a sudden and large pitch down or up.
  5. You were right! First I thought you meant the FFB settings in the SPECIAL settings of the SA-342. But after you last comment I checked the MISC and sure enough, this settings was back (I'm pretty sure I had unchecked this before). This was a vicious one. Now it's fine, thanks a lot!
  6. Thanks guys. Well, I don't understand, I checked again the start procedure, nothing is missing. I'm not using simplified controls, the FFB is not used (but then it would just be ignored by my joystick right?). I have even re-installed the module, erased and re-programmed the controls to make sure. I'll just report this as a bug.
  7. Shouldn't that be "Aerospatiale"? ;)
  8. Problems 1-3 were due to the FFB option in Misc settings, the other problems are not directly related and at the end of the post. It would be good to prevent this problem by detecting whether the joystick is actually FFB or not, or having a checkbox on the SA342 page with the other FFB settings! Also, in the manual, pg 14 and 16, - "not recommended for non-FFB joysticks", it is not clear, does it mean we should not use the magnetic brake on the stick, or on the panel, or both... ? - "recommended for non-FFB joystick", again, it is not clear, must we avoid that (and what exactly?) if it's an FFB joystick? Aren't those set by the main settings option? My original problem report: Five other issues 4) There also is a puzzle for me, there are two commands "Magnetic brake On/Off" and "Magnetic Brake On/Off" on two different panels, did I miss something in the cockpit preparation? 5) It's not possible to move the "Cockpit vibration" in the special settings. It takes a lot of clicking around to finally be able to move the slider, sometimes I can't do it at all. The other sliders are fine. 6) The starter is ON in hotstart (so is the pump). 7) Manual is incomplete 8 ) When the altimeter is calibrated from 1019 to 1020, it reads "1010", the last digit is back to zero before the other digits are incremented.
  9. So seems like the opinions are very divided. Except from the IGE (and sometimes I'm wondering if I had not imagined it), it's still completely uncontrollable to me in a level flight, and the trim doesn't work as before: - trim switch is ignored - the slightest touch on trim makes a very large difference, it seems like all-or-nothing actually - nose up and down are reversed Though this depends on whether I use cold or hot start, with hot start it's slightly more controllable. I don't think I missed anything in the startup procedure, but the manual is not yet written for that part so... All that is fine in 1.5.7. Is there something very obvious that could explain the difference?
  10. Actually the FM seems to take ground effect into account, at last. I compared again the UH-1H, the Mi-8 and the SA-342 in the latest DCS 1.5.7, and the Gazelle was the only one not to show any ground effect. In the latest 2.1.1, it's obviously present, the difference is unmistakable. That's nice! The manual is still quite poor. I suppose we'll get there one day :p
  11. I've added the link in their thread here. If you don't provide more details and a log file, though, don't expect a miracle ;) But I agree with you, they make good add-ons but it's always disturbing to see bugs remaining ignored for months or more, and not being able to contact them. I guess their modules is mostly for Russian-speaking people ;) Actually, don't hesitate to Google-translate a post in the Russian part of the forums, there you have better chance to get some feedback. I really wish there were a more transparent bug tracking system so we would at least know whether the developers are aware of bugs.
  12. I doubt this would be legal though. That is why some of the DCS user guides sometimes closely follow a pilot manual, but with enough differences to avoid any violation of copyright.
  13. That's right, when hovering or taxiing in ground effect it seems fine. For ex. I can land it and give little corrections without any trouble - apart from the helicopter trying to kill me, that is :D The way it gets in/out of ground effect feels abrupt and at quite a low speed to me, but I haven't flown a Gazelle for real, only a lighter, smaller R22 and not for long. Perhaps it's correct and I'm wrong, but it's different from other experiences, real or sim. Thrustmaster joystick, not really appropriate I know. Those helicopter controllers must be fun and more precise, but they're too expensive and take too much space for my use. The DCS tuning shows it's smooth and precise enough, the only problem is the strong spring that I don't want to remove. What are you using?
  14. That's the problem I have in 2.1, but not only for pitch, for the cyclic in any direction. I tried to adjust the curve non-linearity but in any case it seems that when I move the cyclic control to a point, it does not respond, and any tiny increment beyond that point moves the cyclic too much. So for example the Gazelle's attitude will pitch forward without stabilizing, so I have to pull back and I can only fly with a kind of oscillating attitude. Perhaps it's just the settings, next time I'll try with erasing them entirely, but I compared and they're exactly the same as 1.5, which does not have this problem. Or perhaps it's linked to the low framerate and microfreezes we get in 2.1 when it loads the scenery when moving, no idea. I can try to reduce the graphics quality and try again. I didn't notice a difference in responsiveness, but that could also be subjective :)
  15. It feels almost as good as 1.5, but controlling the Gazelle in the air is still a problem for me in 2.1. The controls are just ignored unless I pitch forward (or roll on either side) enough which results in rough, brusque movements and makes it near impossible to maintain the attitude. It's as if the control input was quantized too much, which I don't have at all in 1.5 (and the configuration is exactly the same). So it's still not really usable in 2.1. In 1.5 it's much nicer since its last update, still a bit weird on the ground where the ground effect seems to switch on and off too quickly with very little speed, and too abruptly.
  16. Have a look at this post which explains how to do it for another campaign. Here you just have to find the file name of the next mission, which would be "Mission 4.0.40.miz". And mission 3 is "Mission 3.0.41.miz", so to make it easier search for that name in the logbook.lua file. This logbook.lua file is in %USERPROFILE%\Saved Games\DCS.openbeta\MissionEditor\ if you have the beta, in %USERPROFILE%\Saved Games\DCS\MissionEditor\ if you have the Steam or non-beta version.
  17. Thanks a lot for sharing! :)
  18. Use the "search" mode of the control settings, you can change the category on the top drop-down list. Or you can also select the keyboard column and press the current key, it will scroll directly to the corresponding control.
  19. Still no news on this bug?? DCS 1.5.7.10872.388 Here is a track mission in attachment. It's been a while so I'm a bit slow, please bear with me. EDIT: I replaced the originally uploaded track with a shorter one. This time I didn't have the missing smoke problem I had in the first. 1 - designating a 1000-kg load 2 - hooking the load 3 - auto un-hooking the load => the helicopter feels as if the load was still impacting the mass of the helicopter 4 - designating a 1500-kg load => this time, there is smoke 5 - hooking => the helicopter is suddenly much lighter 6 - auto un-hooking the load => same heavy feeling (check also the EGT and the torque that are quite high for an unloaded helicopter) Would it be possible for Belsimtek to at least give some feedback on this bug, is it known to them, do they plan to fix it at some point, do they need more data? Thanks! UH1H.cargos2.ko.trk
  20. You can find a good video on cold and start here: It's almost complete, though make sure to check the start-up procedure in the manual (pg 112-116). EDIT: tried to see what could be missing but the quality of the video doesn't allow this. Is the starter gen switch on START? If it has been switched to standby gen, the starter switch (Home) won't do anything.
  21. This feature seems broken with the Gazelle in single player (haven't tried in MP). I have a few missions with several aircraft, and one convenient way not to have those same missions duplicated for each owned aircraft as the player's, is to use the "jump into aircraft" function at the beginning. However, if the mission starts in the Gazelle, or as soon as I jump into the Gazelle, the function is not available anymore. DCS 1.5.7.10872.388
  22. I completely agree on that, it's very good advice. I started with the P-51 and found it a bit hard... until I tried the Bf-109 and the Fw-190 which both gleefully killed me on so many awkward occasions :D Now it's fine of course, but the learning curve puts the P-51 in very good position. It's an awesome airplane on many levels, even if it doesn't have the same aura as the Spitfire or the Bf109. And it also has a fairly good DLC campaign - on sales too, which is not the case for the others (I know there is a nice campaign for the Spit, but it's for DCS 2 which I currently don't consider as stable or even playable on regular computers). You can't be disappointed :) You can have a preview with the free TF-51, but know that the P-51D is much more polished (textures, has weapons, fixed the switch logic, and so on).
  23. Yes... technically if we set it precisely 90° there won't be any downwind, but the most current situation is a part of front and a part of cross - crosswind only is also a bit suicidal. In any case, this is obviously a double-bug, so this may as well be fixed, it doesn't seem very complicated to do. I wouldn't be surprised if the selection of the runway was based on the correct direction of the mission editor, only the actual wind is wrong (and confuses everyone). The fact the wind of the 500' layer is imposed is also a bit of an annoyance, it's not always like that everywhere and depends a lot on the geography.
  24. Hello! I was about to post this in the Mission Editor but there is more to it. DCS 1.5.7.9411.361 Description - in a mission, I set the wind to 347 degrees (1st screenshot), the user's airplane starts on the runway at Sukhumi. Note that the arrow is confusing, it should be pointing the other way or not be there at all, - confirmed as 347 degrees in the briefing panel, when launching the mission (2nd screenshot). When the mission start, there are two bugs (3rd screenshot): - the wind is coming from another direction, actually the opposite direction (167), - the airplane is placed on the wrong end of the runway, downwind, which is not ideal ;) I've also tried with an actual 70-ish-degree wind, the aircraft was also placed downwind The first bug has been there for a long time, but is it planned to fix it one day to avoid confusion with the developers? And the second one is pretty annoying, I don't see how to make any cross-wind practice mission that starts from the runway.
  25. Thanks a lot! I'll try that soon :)
