  1. They changed everything again in 2.1... I'm not sure I'll maintain this fix anymore, if they don't want to integrate it at some point. EDIT: apparently the file reverted to what it was in 1.5.6, without the LOCALIZE (weird). So using the latest 1.5.6 fix in 2.1 should work.
  2. I confirm it's not working as expected in the air since version 2.1.0.5677.215, I see the trim button moving on the stick but it has no noticeable effect on the flight model. Didn't have the time to check whether the neutral light was switching on/off. (Thrustmaster joystick as in the sig below, no FFB)
  3. OK thanks, so my install is not messed up, since I had to restart the update I wasn't so sure. Plenty of lovely texture/shadow/... maps and meshes! Normandy seems more modest in comparison (though it's already quite big). Hem, more than 10 minutes just to load NTTR is ... lengthy, especially from an SSD :/ I think it needs to recompile shaders, perhaps it's just that.
  4. Ouch, 36 GB just for Nevada, that's why it took so long! Is that normal it takes so much disk space?
  5. Well, the idea of the torrent is that the more participate, the best the download bitrate will be ;) (not to mention avoiding to overload their servers) Now that's fine, but it will be an estimated 3-4 hours just to update NTTR, and only then the download of Normandy (which should take a little more I suppose). It'll be a long night :D
  6. Unfortunately, there is no persistence in DCS, but so you shouldn't look for a reason, it's just off on a cold start. Not sure whether it's a constant pre-defined value or random.
  7. That should really not happen. Perhaps it's worth searching in your logbook.lua file for the part that describes the campaign progression, for example you should see this ["campaign"] = "./Mods/campaigns/A-10C The Enemy Within Campaign/en/The Enemy Within DLC.cmp" Sometimes a filename changes in an update (it's very rare and I don't think it's the case here), or progression gets messed up somehow, but it's generally possible to fix it easily. If there is really no trace left of the campaign, something really bad must have happened. Or do you have several pilot profiles?
  8. Yeah, it was a bit of an exaggeration ;) I know there are others, I meant "a minority" :) Still, some vendors accept money transfers but it's more work, and you pay internation transfer taxes which may get quite expensive. So it's quite rare, since it's a problem for both parties. Not sure I see any other solution, really.
  9. That would be a problem, since the system they are using for VISA doesn't work in several EU countries. So if they don't keep Paypal, it means a lot of customers won't be able to buy their products anymore. Not sure what you had exactly, but it's usually the matter of doing a less-than-1€ transaction to verify the link to the bank, that you get back anyway. Last time they asked I told them I had already done that before and they didn't insist. I'm not a huge fan of Paypal but I have to admit it's very convenient and safe. On the other hand, the credit cards are sometimes easy but you need to trust the system, and last time I tried with ED, a few months back, they were using Sage Pay which doesn't have a nice reputation, and caused quite some problems. I never had feedback from ED about this, even though there was a ticket. This also coincided with an attack I had on my card, I had it cancelled and had to get another one. Other than those two systems, I don't see how you could pay the products you want to buy, so you'll have to comply somehow, I don't believe they'll change the whole system for one user and without good reasons ;)
  10. Why not Paypal? You can refill your account without a credit card, benefit from a good protection, it doesn't get any easier.
  11. I've had this problem before with the M-2000C campaign, you could have something wrong in your logbook, the file that stores where you are in campaigns and the statistics of your pilot. It's in %USERPROFILE%\Saved Games\DCS.openbeta\MissionEditor\logbook.lua (or ...\DCS\... if you're using the release branch). Whatever you do, make a backup first. Check this post that describes the problem some had a while ago and how to figure out what is wrong. Or if that doesn't help, this one which shows how to edit the pilot logbook and force the advancement to the next mission. If you're really lost, you can post your logbook.lua here and I or someone else will try to verify it, but it could take a while. Also, put your log so we can see what is wrong. So those two files: %USERPROFILE%\Saved Games\DCS.openbeta\Logs\dcs.log %USERPROFILE%\Saved Games\DCS.openbeta\MissionEditor\logbook.lua
  12. I can't speak for everyone but I've never, ever bought a game without checking it out first. I don't want to waste my money, and even less my time, impulsively on something I don't know, and it's very hard to get an opinion from the little info on Steam. So I'm usually checking some reviews, and the developper website. A quick check on DCS should bring anyone to the DCS store. Unfortunately, yes, some might just overlook this and learn the hard way , or just happily stick with Steam if they don't care that much. Steam most probably puts some pressure on vendors to have exclusive rights, I've seen several sims and games that were first available both on Steam and at another place, moving exclusively to Steam. I was actually surprised to see it was possible to register Steam's products on the DCS store and use them outside the Steam ecosystem, it's no wonder it finally stopped, even though it's sad for the people who might get stuck there. So I think that the big picture is not necessarily what the users prefer, or what the developers prefer, but how the distributors restrict the licencing options as they get more momentum. I'm certainly glad it's not the other way round, and that we don't all have to migrate to Steam, but that's just personal preference (apparently shared with others).
  13. It's actually quite fortunate we are not forced to use Steam and have the choice between this platform and a stand-alone installation. I rather see this as an advantage for customers, what don't you like about this? The only drawback I see is for 3rd party developers (aircraft, campaigns and terrains) who have to be able to test different platforms. In any case, I doubt it was ED's decision.
  14. Don't worry, your sentence was perfect, I think it was simply misread. Sometimes people see a few words, miss some others, and jump to conclusion, happens to me too :) +1 on the turbulence wish, that's one of the things that I miss too and which would bring a lot to immersion. Oh, and clouds, what wouldn't I give for more convincing clouds instead of 2D sprites that rotate when you turn your head. But one step at a time, it can't be easy to give a priority to each feature in such a complex sim, even less to get everyone to agree on it.
  15. The campaign was working perfectly not long ago, but there was a recent bug in the AI, in DCS. For information, the author of the campaign has absolutely no control over this, nor Razbam who provides the aircraft.
  16. Do you still have the log files? Though I'd be surprised if they read this section ;) I could try to post it in the Russian part of the forums (my teacher being Google Translate, I'm sure they'll have a good laugh).
  17. Pretty interesting, thanks! Here is the pdf article with the figures. MAKING THE BEST OF MiG-21 w.pdf
  18. How I'd love having mobile RSBN units for both the Fishbed and the Albatros! Or at least static units per mission. Of course they have a different system now, being from two developers, but there is still hope ;) But yes, with Normandy we'll have to go VFR, that will be very interesting :D
  19. Wouldn't that be a nice, home-made DCS control panel we see there in the background? ;)
  20. It's usually indicated now, thanks to a recent fix. When you're looking at distances on the map, it's in nm if you chose imperial units in the main menu, or in km if you chose the ISU. If you're looking at the speed of an object, it should be kts or km/h, depending on the option. In an aircraft, it's another matter ;) British aircraft like the Spitfire are traditionally using statute miles, the Viggen is using Scandinavian miles (=10 km), Russian and old German planes are using ISU, and US aircraft are using nautical miles. But it may depend on the cockpit skin. And then there are the pressure units... :D
  21. It's always possible to run any mission independently of the campaign, by clicking on "Mission" then navigating through the directory structure to the campaign files (DCS/Mods/campaigns). Sometimes it helps with a difficult mission, as preliminary training.
  22. I finally found them! After a lot of time checking whether it was a typo and perhaps NE, or SW... Yeah... this part could probably be made more clear to the pilot ;) For the distance, when there is no map to get visual reference like here, I simply time the route, for example at 90 kts I wait for two minutes. And then...
  23. Thanks for sharing! :) That's more or less how I was doing with a straight approach (meaning by that, hooking the cargo directly instead of lifting then auto-attaching). Except I'm still definitely out of the margins for too long, that requires more practice! Yeah, the pedals, joystick and throttle are not really static in those manoeuvres :D @D500, hope you could go further in the mission!
