A Bridge Too Far - A warbird event for Burning skies
shadepiece replied to mblackham's topic in Tournaments & Events
I absolutely would agree! The Normandy and WWII stuff has come a very long way. Salute to RED TEAM today! It was a great event, and I am glad to have been able to attend. Big thanks to the GCI guys, as they did a stand up job. I am looking forward to the next one. -

I can't seem to find a link for the discord. Could someone drop it here? -

If I get on the discord early tomorrow, will anyone be around to help me get SRS fully set up? I am going to be getting it figured, but I want to make sure it's squared away well in advance. SRS sounds really really cool, but I just haven't gotten it set up yet. Thanks! -
Here's the scrap I was in last night on Burning Skies. This engagement picks up when I spot a contact heading for friendly shipping as I was RTB after a strafing run where I caught some ground fire. This is my first time in a DCS multiplayer server in over two years, and I have to say the game has come quite a ways since then.

Awesome! I look forward to some screenshots hopefully sometime soon! The whole concept of this aircraft is rather exciting to me.

It's a great event! I used to be stationed there, and always enjoyed the show!

I would love a quick update as well! Would really be excited to get this in the sim. I think it'd be a perfect transition from Warbirds to the modern stuff for guys like me.

[REPORTED] Airport ground power broken

I also, have the same issue. -
It sadly true there is no real way to replicate it in the sim. You'd have to be feeling the real thing to get a good overall sense of what was happening. I think it's counterproductive to limit what you can do with the controls in the game in a way. I get that you would not physically be able to move the control surfices in certain situations, but artificially limiting the player with no way to communicate the forces acting on the stick is not a very good solution either. I think DCS nails the flight modeling, but in my opinion the biggest downfall of sims is the inability to really feel the forces acting on the plane and the control surfices. Aircraft move around in the air a lot more than it seems to in the sim. Whether that results from a lack of modelling in the engine, or just not easily communicated when sat perfectly still in a computer chair is an entirely different question. In the end though, DCS mimics the feeling of flight much better than any other sim in my opinion, based on my limited real life stock time. X-Plane 11 is getting pretty good too though.

It sure does seem to flare up with the landing flaps down on final. It caught me off guard the first time, and I actually had to do a go-around, but I landed without incident on the second try! I'm liking the module so far, and I am excited to get a buddy into the backseat.

I would also absolutely love an update on this. It's really been a very long time coming.

Given the type of Avionics that are available to most civil GA aircraft I would think it almost as a requirement.
-
Would also love to hear an update on this!

I like to use both at once. I use the gyro as a general reference for more distant deflection shots, and the fixed for most everything else. The combo gives you quite a good idea of where to aim in any situation.

Will the "era" function change the factions in the mission editor. I am very inexperienced with the editor, but I would like to see all the Allies on Blue, and Axis on red by default.

The information about the new damage model is absolutely so exciting! Love to hear that we are receiving such an in-depth amount of detail for the proposed damage model. Two main questions of mine remain even after that post though. 1. Will this damage model be implemented on all aircraft, and will the AI and player aircraft have the same DM? 2. When can we expect to see it updated? Seeing it mentioned in an official update gives me hope that it'll be soon!

I appreciate the reply. It would be a little one sided for one aircraft to have the new damage model, but not others. It makes sense in that regard.

Under the Normandy package deal you should see two keys. -

If you got the bundle you should be able to see your key under your orders in your profile on the e-shop. -
Now that Normandy is out I have been wondering what the plans for the new damage model are. Let me start by sharing my first experience on the Normandy map, and end with a few questions. My first outing in France was a simple flyout in the P-51's instant action. I was up against 2 K-4s, and the fight was intense. After my wingman was killed almost instantly I was caught in a 2 vs 1 situation. After some energy fighting, I was able to pull a high angle deflection shot on one bogey. I scored hits all over him. He began streaming from both wings, and engine smoking black. He looked effectively destroyed. I turned to deal with the second bandit who now had gained enough energy to out climb me. I began a turn fight. Just as I was getting the better of this second bandit the damaged 109 blew my left wing off. I bailed out to safety. The FM is so good, and feels so real in DCS. The chase is so exciting. The jockeying for position is phenomenal, but the illusion ends as soon as the guns start firing. I saw in the log, and in that burst I scored 70 hits on that 109, and although his engine was crippled he was flying just as fine as before. My questions on this issue are, A. When should we expect to see an update for the damage model? Weeks? Months? B. What is proposed for AI specifically. Being that bombers, the B-17 specifically, are going to be a big part of many mission created for Normandy, and in it's current state much is left to be desired. C. Will the updates be rolled out as they are completed, or is it going to be rolled out as a set package all at once?
