  2. So I recently sold my house and am now living in an RV. Don't feel bad, it was totally by choice. But in doing so, I have had to stop playing DCS as I cannot seem to figure out how to get any kind of solid setup for flight simming in my own tiny space. Does anyone have pics or ideas for a compact but steady setup? I have the CH fighterstick HOTAS and CH pedals. 27 inch monitor. Track IR. I am really starting to miss my Mi-8.

  4. Any idea what is causing this? Hoggit PGAW Server. They move with the map when I drag the view around. It starts as 1 then 2 then eventually what you see in the image. It slowly gets worse. I have no clue why.
  5. What?! No Hip? Just kidding, but Hip is by far my most flown bird. Followed by the Shark. Checked out your website, you all seem decent. Just a warning, I am in this phase where I have a lot of modules and am trying to learn them all. I am sure some of you have been there. Wouldn't mind checking you all out. Getting tired of flying solo, aka, uncoordinated and random in multiplayer. Ya know, no comms whatsoever and everyone is a hero. I can pretend the Hip is a Huey in Huey Ops...
  6. Been prowling a bit for a squadron. I am a casual dude so not really looking for milsim. I am military so not looking for that in my off time. Kind of a jack of all trades in DCS, but I seem to prefer helos. I own Mi-8, Ka-50, UH-1, Gazelle, A-10C, A-10C II, Viggen, F/A-18, Mirage 2000, Mig-21, F-5, Fw-190 D-9, and FC3. Getting a bit tired of flying solo. I am pretty decent in the Hip and Shark, but am also trying to be proficient in others, fixed and rotor wings. Wanting to fly with others to learn some tactics and techniques and to have some fun.
  7. Update? Did you get one? I actually have great interest in these types of posts. I enjoy seeing peoples' choices and why they made them. If you have not decided, I say get the Mi-8 or Ka-50. Mi-8 is terrible, until it clicks for you, then it is just awesome. Trust me, I hated that turd until it "clicked" and now I fly it all the time. Ka-50 is a damn fine ground pounder but actuall requires much more stealth and patience than you would expect. DO NOT RUSH WITH THE SHARK!! Think of it like a main battle tank, that can fly. Huey is fine, but everything it can do, the Hip can do better. I also think the Gazelle gets a bad rap, but it is good. It is just way too quick and jittery for a noob to fly. I find the Gazelle easy to fly, but I am fairly good with the other rotaries. Gazelle is a good second or third rotorcraft. No idea on the Hind. Seems like a heavy Hip with more boom. I do not own it so I've no clue. Anyways, just my two cents.
  8. Well, I havent tried your solution, MAXsenna. I just bound the controls to my HOTAS. It is actually pretty handy. Think I might do it for my other modules. Thanks for the help, though.
  9. Something to do with HOTAS, it would seem. One row seems to be for keyboard and the other row is for HOTAS. Why the duplicate rows?
  10. Never saw this before. Only thread I found was the usual, "I have the same problem." It seems the MIrage is the only module that is doing it to me. I bought it on the last sale and set up all the controls just fine. Bound kneeboard settings with "[" and "]" for scrolling. I think it was only yesterday I noticed this weird duplicate thing in the controls. Anybody have a fix? Just found out that I also cannot add a binding to half of those controls. I double click on them or right click and nothing happens.
  11. Don't fret, almost the exact same thing happened to me on mission 3, except I was on the runway. Plane came outta nowhere and I even had landing clearance. Very rude.
  12. Ram the collective up and down. You will get generator failure warnings soon enough. I have flown the Hip plenty without Autopilot. Sometimes only realizing it when I notice the helo flying "aggessively." With that said, I turn on AP as soon as I can. I actually have the button mapped to my HOTAS. It is good practice in case you lose power, but the Hip really needs a gentle touch without the Autopilot engaged. Just my two cents.
  13. Oh boy, this mission is cursed. First a disclaimer; I am no magnificent helo pilot. However, I am not terrible. And I sure suck at sling loading. So, I have been faffing around with this mission off and on for a few months with some success puncuated with abysmal failure. I learned tonight that patience is crucial to sling loading. It must be done slowly and deliberately. I picked up the load and got it to the destination. Finally, I did the mission and all I had to do is get back to base. I set the doppler system up and got my autopilot tuned for an easy cruise home. Got close to home and called for a landing. Clearance was granted to land on the runway. I figured, "I am in a Hip, I don't need to land on the runway." So, I decided to land on a parking pad next to the runway. Nothing. No call from ATC. No Mission Accomplished. Nothing. I decided that maybe I really did need to land on the runway. I taxied over ther and started driving down the runway. Still nothing. So I took off a little bit, then settled back down on the concrete. ATC called and directs me to taxi to parking. HOLY CRAP, I FINALLY BEAT THIS MISSION! I am now looking at the taxiway I need to turn down to go park... BLACK SCREEN THEN EXTERNAL VIEW AS I WATCH MY HELO EXPLODE IN A GLORIOUS INFERNO! I got ran over by a landing cargo plane. I was finished. I had won. I was basking in the warm glow of my triumph. Then it was all ripped away from me in a single beat of the heart. The warmth replaced by an icy defeat. I went through, and am still going through, mourning. The curse of Mission 3 has claimed yet another piece of my soul. Damn you Mission 3. Damn you back to Hell.
  14. Okay, let me set something straight about the Mi-8. If you are finding yourself consistently with generator failures, turn off engine dust protection and anti ice systems. They bleed a shocking amount of power from your engines. Those systems are a bit situational, too. I am no great helo pilot, but I did learn very early on my journey with the Hip to turn those damn systems off. It makes everything so much better. Of course, use those systems if you think you need them. Hell, the Mi-8 will warn you about icing. And if you land and kick up a big dust cloud, turn on dust protection. If you have either or both of those systems running, be very gentle with control inputs, especially collective. And be willing to accept that you may be simply too heavy. I hated the Hip for a long, long time. But I gave it a chance one day and now it my most flown module, by a very large margin. Like more on it than all the others, combined.

  16. I seem to be having a problem with the Viggen in that it seems to ground loop on me about 80-90 percent of my landings. I haven't really seen anything about others having this problem, so it must be me. All I can think is that I am braking way too hard and it causes the plane to swap ends on me. Anyone else have this issue? What do I do to alleviate this? I think maybe brake less aggressively.
  17. Till=on Fran=off That should be enough Swedish to get you going. I was intimidated at first, but it really boils down to simply knowing procedures and where to find what control you need. For example, I start the Mi-8 from memory, not even reading the switches. With English cockpit, which I do not really use, anymore. Think of an aircraft you use a lot. Do you read every switch you flip? I would wager you do not. You just go through the procedure. I got the Viggen because it has a mission profile that seemed exciting to me. After I got it, I started looking into its developement and history. I suggest you do the same. It is pretty amazing. I just wish the Viggen were more popular. Oh well... Sorry if I seem to have necroed this post.
  18. Hi all, Is there any indication in the Hip as to whether or not the Autopilot Adjustment is Engaged/Disengaged? RAlt+A is the key bind for it and I can check the box in the Special Tab. The only way I can tell if it is on or off is by watching the knobs on the Autopilot Console. If they are moving, then the Engineer is adjusting. That seems a bit clunky to me, so I am just wondering if something else indicates it. Thanks
  19. So, I am just starting the Oilfield Campaign and ran into a confusing thing, at least for me. Maykop-Khanskaya NDBs for the outer and inner markers are the same frequency. Outers are both 289 and inners are both 591. Attached is the screenshot of them. I see they both have a suffix of a letter or two. What does that mean and how do I get the Mi-8 to distinguish between the two? Thanks for any help.
  20. Oh, FFS... Well, just restarted my computer and for some reason the Mi-8 and UH-1 lighting seems to be working as intended. Weird... Apologies for the starting this thread.
  21. I had originally bumped a topic under the Mi-8 bug thread pertaining to a recent change to lighting. It had to be recent as I don't remember this issue even a month ago. The cockpit lighting is very dim. But here is the kicker, so is the external lighting. Persian Gulf and the airport floodlights look like candles. The other kicker is the UH-1 lighting is also very dim. Dim in the cockpit and also outside. All knobs are turned to the max. Even the dome lights in both aircraft are turned on with barely any effect. The flashlight in both aircraft is also very dim. The UH-1 is really confusing as I was doing night missions yesterday and the lighting was just fine. I cranked gamma up to 3, but that isn't really a fix. Tried most of the other aircraft I own and they all seem to be fine, including the Ka-50. If anybody wants a track, I can supply. I just don't get what went wrong.
  22. Bumping this topic. I have not changed anything as far as graphics settings or display brightness. The only thing different is DCS updated not too long ago. I have almost no lights in the Mi-8 cockpit now. It was recent, whatever they did, as I fly the Mi-8 almost exclusively.
  23. Bumping again after I had to restart a campaign mission because, once again, the AI went dumb. Didn't crash, just went underground.
