Apologies, So to confirm, you did not receive the battery charge monitor, or the extra Rift S HMS mount either? If not, will get them in the mail today with the mounting accessories. I must have been helping Carol with the packaging and shipping that day. To everyone Reference using Velcro. I found I could not get a stable enough connection with it, and some of the industrial stuff raised the HMS quite a bit. I will try the brand Gruman used. The hard hook and loop I tried in the past required to much pressure to engage/disengage. Would you guys like to see a form of Velcro in addition to the double faced tape? Thanks, Miles P.S. I just cleaned out my PM box again.- 3421 replies

I thought you had PointCTRL? If the cursor limits are set properly there is no way to click out of the window.

Those were just examples, PointCTRL will show up in DCS as a 32 button HID joystick. This is what I was thinking, options can be disabled, so a long press does not interfere with a "hold to execute" functions like VR zoom is used. The VRBs are still going to happen, but they will have to wait for PointCTRL v2 Left Button Bank 1 = Button 1 standard press and release 2 = Button 2 standard press and release 3 = Button 3 standard press and release Right Button Bank 4 = Button 1 standard press and release 5 = Button 2 standard press and release 6 = Button 3 standard press and release Left Button Bank 7 = Button 1 long press 8 = Button 2 long press 9 = Button 3 long press Right Button Bank 10 = Button 1 long press 11 = Button 2 long press 12 = Button 3 long press Left Button Bank 13 = hold 1 & 2 14 = hold 1 & 3 15 = hold 2 & 3 16 = hold 1 & 2 & 3 Right Button Bank 17 = hold 1 & 2 18 = hold 1 & 3 19 = hold 2 & 3 20 = hold 1 & 2 & 3 Left and Right Bank together 21 = 1 & 1 22 = 2 & 2 23 = 3 & 3 24 = 1 & 2 & 3 25 = HMS Button 1 quick press 26 = HMS Button 2 quick press As always, feedback and suggestions are greatly appreciated. Especially now, that I don't get much time to test things for myself anymore. Thanks for the opportunity to clarify Grumman, Miles- 3421 replies

PointCTRL - Finger Mounted VR Controller

Just cleared it out, Yea, FoxDelta designs some amazing stuff. I always enjoy the YouTube post of his latest projects. The PointCTRL code continues to grow, especially now with interfacing the GUI and Voice Assist. I had success in freeing up some of the 32kb of memory with simpler computations and trimming some variables. I should be close to having enough room for the Aux Push Buttons to be seen as a joystick. This way, you can us other controllers buttons as modifiers to gain more than six buttons. It will also have the ability for multiple simultaneous button presses that emulate another single button press. Also working on multiple functionality of buttons based on what DCS mode or function is active. Example: Visor up = button 1, Visor down = button 2. NVGs on = Buttons 1 and 2 together, After NVGs are on, Gain Increase = button 1 , Gain Decrease = button 2. Eject = buttons 1, 2, and 3 on each button bank simultaneously. Any other button functionality you guys can think of would be great! As soon as the GUI/VA is in beta, I will move to the Aux button banks. Thanks for the question Gruman, Miles- 3421 replies

Hey Bearfoot, Early on in the S release, I saw in an interview with Oculas that the upper camera was for tracking controllers above your head that are out of the field of view of the other cameras. I have not since been able to confirm or deny that info. I have not herd any issues and I send out by far the most mounts for the S. My personal guess, and I emphasize "guess" is that the upper camera can not be critical for tracking, because most of the time it would just be seeing a nondescript white ceiling without any discernible features to track. Thank for asking, wish I had a better answer. GUI Update: Here is a WIP preview of the Voice Assist, which I believe will be the most helpful part of the GUI. Miles- 3421 replies

Looks like it was delivered early, Good Luck! It also looks like a few of you got yours today, I will have my discord on speaker, just yell my name and I should hear you if you need any assistance. I really do enjoy helping out others getting their PointCTRL sorted, and working properly, so please don't hesitate to ask for help. The most rewarding part of this whole endeavor is when I think I had a little piece in making those that trusted in me recreational time a bit more enjoyable. Conversely, I know PointCTRL can initially be a challenge to set-up, and I worry some of you may have become frustrated and are not using it. So please reach out on discord, or here if you need assistance. Your certainly not bothering me, besides Deano, FireCat, or Clutter usually beat me to helping someone out. Interesting that you didn't have to re-calibrate. I would expect that the cursor box would be to small, and cut off the cursor before its out of your FOV. I would also expect that you can't move the cursor down as far vertically. I think you would get a better experience if you expanded your cursor box and targets and re-calibrated. Just remember the major reasons for a bad calibration. Problem: FCU led is timed out, and off when accepting cursor alignment. Solution: Be sure to press the rear FCU button to activate the IR LED before pressing the forward button to accept the cursor alignment. Problem: The opposite hands FCU you are not using IR LED is on, and being tracked when accepting cursor alignment. Solution: Be sure the other FCU is out of the HMSs field of view before pressing the forward button to accept the cursor alignment. Its good practice to move your opposite hand down below your thigh to block the IR LED. Problem: IR interference. Solution: Be sure to conduct an IR room survey and occlude or eliminate any IR sources that you may encounter as you look in all directions. To survey the room, you don't have to look at the LED on the HMS, you can just see if your cursor moves as you rotate the VR headset around the room. Hope that Helps, I will post this over in the Discord also. Miles- 3421 replies

Sorry FireCat for all the work, The end should be coming soon, when the website goes live for sales. Thanks for keeping things so organized, we all truly appreciate your time. I know this is an aggressive goal, but I need a bit more motivation to help me focus on production rather than getting distracted by development right now. Carol will update this chart as units ship, and new groups are announced. The numbers may not exactly correspond as the units may ship in order of payment, rather than line number. This should help those waiting to get an idea when to expect your PointCTRL, as I get ahead, or lag behind this goal. Thanks again, Miles- 3421 replies

Sounds like a fun project. Let me know if you would like any references to possible components. I use pneumatics and a micro-controller in a adhesion tester that I designed, and am the OEM of. Miles

That's a great idea also. After seeing Eric's amazing G seat work, and listening to his conceptual thoughts about simulating the forces on the body, I was thinking of making a controler for the electric car seat I use in my pit. This seat also has adjustable lumbar and side support that I would increase for acceleration in addition to moving the seat. Car seats really are fantastic for sim pits. For 100 usd at any local junkyard you can have your pick of high end fully electric seats. Hell, you could even hook the seat heater up for a reminder that you left it in afterburner. Not sure how well the whole concept would work , but the subtle clues might help on the cheap. So many ideas, so little time EDIT "otherwise un-used input channel" I was a little slow on the uptake on that one, but isint it really more of an output channel.

Hey Blacley, Good to here from you, Pop on over to the PointCTRL discord in my sig, theirs usually people there to help to help. I park myself in the voice chat when I am at my workstation, so jump on if you see me. Deano has become the default "Western Front Help Desk" (his witty moniker, not mine) and he always seems to be there if someone needs a hand. I often do screen shares on discord to walk people through through the set up. You should be able to use PointCTRL right out of the box with the Rift S depending on your monitor resolution. Just make sure you close all the blinds and curtains and watch the incandescent lights and give it a go. IR interference is similar to Track IR but since you move your head around, you have to occlude the light that you may end up facing. After you get comfortable with it, you can calibrate for your set-up and body type. Good luck and here are a few long and boring videos to get you familiar with things. Miles Instructions and more videos at pointctrl.com Note: disregard the battery charging info. I ship with new chargers that light red when the batteries are fully charged or unplugged, and turn off when the battery is fully charged.- 3421 replies

Very feasible, Just thinkng on the fly. 1) Use export LUA or DCS BIOS to export g's, 2) Simple PSI sensor in the pants line to Arduino analog input. 3) Pneumatic valve or valves to Arduino outputs. 4) Arduino code maps current LUA export g's to desired pants PSI . 5) Arduino code turn on and of the pneumatic valve or valves until sensor PSI in G pants line = the mapped PSI from the LUA export. You will need some form of logic level solid state relay to run the pneumatic solenoids, which are typically 12 or 24 volts. For variable infill and deflation rates you would quickly pulse the solenoids. I would probably have a a few solenoids in parallel for quicker inflation rates. You will have to use separate inflation and deflation 2 way valves or 3 position blocking vales, to inflate hold and deflate the pants. Thats the first time I have ever put used the term "pants PSI" Good Luck, Miles

As soon as the beta GUI is out next week, I think PointCTRL will be at a level where I can focus mostly on production for now. So to keep me on track, my stated goal is to be through FireCats list by 20 DEC. We should be able to produce the 25 kits a week to meet that goal. I will post progress chart when I post the now serving numbers. Thanks for the motivation Doon, Miles- 3421 replies

Arduino pro micro or Leo Bonar BB-64
MilesD replied to Marcq's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Full disclosure, I have not used the Bodnar boards, but if you any interest in learning about micro-controllers and simple coding, I would recommend the Arduino. I would also suggest you start off with something simple like this great HID joystick library by Mathew Heironimus to get down the basic concepts. https://www.instructables.com/id/Create-a-Joystick-Using-the-Arduino-Joystick-Libra/ https://github.com/MHeironimus/ArduinoJoystickLibrary Once you get the basics, you can do anything with these boards, and you do not need the Arduino boot-loader on them if you decide to go with something like Atmels AVR studio. The pro micro is great and uses the 32U4 chip with native USB HID support. Its a good place to start because of the sheer amount of information and libraries available for it. Think of libraries as specifically grouped task related to a certain functionality you would like to achieve with your micro-controller. After you include the library, you are able to add shortcut commands to execute more complex task. You can move to the SAMD21 used on the Arduino Zero for more advanced future projects requiring more speed and memory. Good luck, Miles
