  1. Yes it ground loops but it never slams the wing down. The should have been beyond a scary landing, it would have destroyed the aircraft. My point here is that with the new model absolutely no crosswind technique is needed, ruder inputs aren't even needed, to land safely. Edit - Here a lighter aircrafts ground loops, the wheels dig in and tip the plane, Rather than just sliding.
  2. https://youtu.be/kv_9gSyajuw?t=10s I did this quick video to demonstrate that you no longer need to use the rudder to land the 109, even in a heavy crosswind. This is the "land-difficult" mission from the challenge campaign done with my feet off the pedals. The winter conditions are a little misleading. As we know there isn't runway icing or snow yet in DCS and this result can be repeated in summer. I don't want a middle ground between this and the old model, I want the old model back. As an option is fine just please give us back realism.
  3. Found a bit of a workaround, have another ship in the group near my "target ship" with an ai heli onboard and have that heli broadcast the homing message.
  4. Ah that is a cool feature I didn't know about. Seems limited to a stationary ship though unless there is a way to move trigger zones I also don't know of? I suppose you could set a series of triggers and zones to have the broadcast always at least approximate the ship's location.
  5. Hi Greg, I'm wondering how you set up the Argo to broadcast its homing signal for this campaign? I was hoping to set up some similar scenarios myself but I find that ships do not have the "set frequency" and "transmit message" options that land units have. Did you use a script for this? Thanks!
  6. It was in a 172 and I didn't have an outside view to confirm, but my sensation from the cockpit was that the nose was a few degrees left of the direction of motion which was quickly "corrected" through the jolt that I felt. I don't mean this as a data point for our discussion of what the warbirds should be like, they're going to be very different beasts. I only bring it up to point out how precise landings must be in real life, in contrast to this behaviour where any need to align the aircraft to its direction of travel, and any risk of error seems to have been eliminated. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xIKGZfuOOnU
  7. I don't even want a middle ground, I want the old model back, even as an option is fine. This has me thinking back to a landing I made when I was getting my PPL. A slight mistake with the rudder at the last minute led to a bit of side load at touch down which was accompanied by a heavy jolt and screech. This sliding around behavior just isn't right. More than that the reason for it, to try to make DCS more accessible to the novice, concerns me. It seems like a step back from the very thing that got me interested in DCS in the first place, that it places the pursuit of realism above all other considerations.
  8. It is all the war birds now. I'm unhappy with the change it seems to me to be a significant step in the wrong direction.
  9. It is horrible, here is a short video I did to show that you basically can't crash on landing anymore: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xIKGZfuOOnU I find this step back from realism, and the reasons given for it, very disappointing. If the new physics are needed for some players then please make it an option.
  10. Thanks so much for your hard work Greg!
  11. Hi Bunyap, since these campaigns were first released more units have been added to the WWII pack. Do you have plans to add these into the mix of units we encounter in the campaigns (which I could see being a long process) or will the campaigns remain with the units that were available when they were first produced? Thanks, Rolds
  12. Flaps 25 max RPM command is given on the landing roll right? Pretty sure what he means is turn it into a touch and go and do the circuit again, he's just being specific about technique and wants half flaps and max power.
  13. Update, I flew this today for the Mig, the triggers and mission ending all appeared to work as described in this thread. On open beta. If you have not flown this mission do not read through this thread to avoid spoilers.
  14. Yeah I would prefer not to re-fly the start of the mission 10 times hoping the IL76 makes it, the designer can fix this easily by setting the ships to ROE weapons hold.
  15. I've finished it for the Sabre and I'm 6 missions into the Mig, so far the missions seem identical for both. I think relic is a great campaign for novice, although the term is quite vague. Here's a list of skills I'd recommend you have before starting the campaign: - NDB navigation. one mission works quite well if you are able to fly a non-precision NDB approach. see here for a very good video on NDB procedure, including the approach, produced by Apache himself: - understand the radio and be able to tune and switch frequencies - be able to straff moving and stationary ground targets, flying helicopters, and be able to drop bombs within an area the size of a farp (preferably smaller but I don't think that would actually prevent you from progressing) - be able to shoot down non-fighters like cargo planes or A10's - be able to fly in at least a loose formation other skills will also be called upon but if you can do the above things I think you will probably be able to knock out most of the relic missions on your first try.
  16. The track file exceeded the forum's size limit so I removed it, everything else is included.
  17. How far out of parameters were you? I actually didn't pass the qualification circuit and was told to around and try again the first time I did mission 1, it did not end the mission.
  18. Look carefully at the horizon when you are in level flight and find some mark points in the cockpit that you can line up so that you aren't stuck staring at the VSI.
  19. Could someone please link a video demonstrating that these fights can be won on version 2.5.2?
  20. Does anyone know if this has been updated yet?
  21. I left the server the normal way and had a CTD with a crash log. We were having a strange issue in the session where a buddy's hornet appeared to freeze when it touched the carrier. He would choose hot start slots on the carrier and be unable to move, and starting from the air his aircraft would stop moving as soon as it touched the boat. I do not know if this is in any way related to the crash log, but this issue would not throw a log of its own since DCS didn't crash for him, and the issue appeared on two different .miz files, on different maps, with me hosting one and him hosting one. Thanks, Rolds
  22. Could we please have options to manually change the lights on/off status of airfields, FARPs, and ships? - For ships, en en route task or trigger dependent action so you could set their status in the mission editor. - For all, a radio command to ask to turn on runway lights. - For airfields, an ability to set runway lights on or off in the mission editor. The lights work well when it is night time but sometimes frustrate me during overcast or foggy conditions, for example today doing carrier traps on the carrier at 800 hours under overcast in 2 mile visibility. Would love to be able to request the ship lights in this case. Thanks!
  23. I've completed the last mission and want to thank the creator, this one was very well done.
  24. It seems later modules use different code for the glass which allowed a global change, and the older ones will need more work.
