  1. I don't think i have an installation problem. I have both versions M and L and all the correct features etc. I am not saying that you can not land on grass. I am saying it is much too difficult.
  2. I do not agree that it was fixed in 1.5.4. I just finished many attempts to hone my skills at grass landings in 1.5.4 and I can't really tell any difference between 1.5.4 or 1.5.3 or 2.02. Bottom line is I get killed trying to land on grass. If there is a trick to it please let me know. Otherwise please revisit this issue in 1.5.4. This is the only helo i can not land on grass with ease. Maybe it's just me but if so I give up. randy
  3. I've been flying the Gazelle since it was released and I still can't land successfully on the grass or any non-paved surface more than about 1 out of 5 attempts. I even tried using auto hover and gently letting the the gazelle touch down to the ground just to make sure it wasn't my lousy control. The Gazelle starts to rock and roll when it gets a few feet off the ground and even auto hover can't stop it. Since the ground seems to snag the rails rather than letting them slip and even worse the Gazelle has an extreme tendency to bounce off the ground it winds up tipping over. It seems completely uncontrollable once the Gazelle bounces but if I can prevent the bounce by lowering the collective just at the point of touch down often the Gazelle breaks from the stress and won't take off again. So anyway.. What I am wondering is ...is anything going to be done to change this or do I just have to learn to live with it? I haven't been able to find any answer from Polychop oh this but I have seen other post on the issue. To me this is the biggest problem with the Gazelle because even if everything else works I often can't complete my missions so I just avoid using it. thanks Randy
  4. The MASH Unit wasn't working because i was using a static unit rather than a live unit. I still don't know why the rescue to a FARB doesn't work.
  5. I got version 1.9.1 to complete the rescue if I take the rescued pilot to an airbase but not if I take them to a FARB or MASH unit. Anyone know if there is something i am doing wrong. The FARB is country=USA and the MASH is named BlueMASH #1 Also wondering how close to the MASH unit would you need to land? Can't find that number anywhere..
  6. I tried some more to slide in the sand while watching via external view and it does seem to slide some on the sand. It has much more friction than sliding on the pavement. That is probably intended behavior although it makes landing much more difficult in the sand. You can feel the difference if you slide off the edge of a runway into the sand.
  7. I thought about loops but I was happy with barrel rolls for the moment. I did several both from a hover and flying forward. This is very quick and agile bird. I can't wait to do some swooping in with guns in it. It will be much harder for the tanks and AAA to hit than the other heli's.
  8. I am having a lot of difficulty landing in the rough areas that are not paved. On a paved surface it is slippy sliddy which is understandable but on the unpaved surfaces (sand and gravel) it seems to stick like glue to the ground with no slide at all which results in tipping unless you are perfectly steady when you touch the ground. It is very difficult. Anyway maybe it's just my piloting skills but I can land the huey on either surface without any problem. I can usually get the gazelle down ok at an airport but have blackouts with gasp of breath or crash on unpaved landing spots. I think the blackouts might be from the remaining momentum from the bird not being perfectly still when it "sticks" to the ground. No real knowledge just guessing....I'll keep practicing but I thought i should mention it....
  9. I thought it would ......so i just had to try....and guess what..it did.... barrel roles! And I lived to tell about it... thank you thank you thank you
  10. There is something in the scripting for some buttons where if you use the warthog throttle switches they will stay activated but if you use the joystick momentary buttons the switch is also momentary. The Master Arm switch is one such switch. I mapped it to the radar altimeter switch on the throttle so it would stay on.
  11. the Huey is the "Harley" of helicopters. I am sure I will go back to it after learning this one just like the others.....
  12. Yep that's it. I guess in the training mission it was trimmed better ....I will surely get shot while trying to get the auto hover on :)
  13. I don't think that is the issue. It turns off and on during the training mission. Just not after I create a unit. I am thinking there is something not turned on maybe...
  14. I can't get auto hover or any auto pilot function to work. Anyone know what I might be missing. the auto hover is on in the weapons training mission and turns on and off for me but I can't duplicate that in a unit i generate with hot start.

I love that mission too.....we should all do it multiplayer sometime. Another one that has even more enemy infested areas is [uH-1H]Tactical_Air_Assault_1.1. Nice short trips to the battle field and back with lot's of takeoffs and landing. I have a CTLD version I have been using to practice hauling crates to strategic locations along with mortar squads etc. You can be a deadly asset with a Huey and CTLD.
  17. Things that helped me...besides lot's of practice.... Warthog stick (Upgraded from T-Flight Hotas and haven't tried others) helps keep a firm steady position due to electrical stability and mass. Warthog stick extension (helps with fine adjustments and the pain in my old arm) Better Video card - upgraded from 1 gb to 3gb mem card and made huge difference - could not hover long enough to pick up a crate until this change. More Memory - Upgraded from 8gb to 36gb made a noticeable difference. DCS seems to use about 13+ gb when not restricted. I don't use any curve, etc. adjustments on the stick but I use -30 on the pedals. Collective is set to Slider, Inverted, with a -40 Curve. This causes the heli to lift sooner as you pull up the collective. The Warthog throttle is most excellent as a collective. But it feels more like you are pulling up if I set the range in the first half of the movement range.
  18. Thanks.....I'll check out the mod. Look really good.
  19. readable cokpit labels It looks like the cockpit interior is a scanned photo image. It would be nice if a little photo shop work were done to make all the switch and knob labels readable instead of blurred. I hate having to look at the picture in the manual just to read a label that is right there at the switch/knob only to blurred to read. It makes learning the cockpit much more difficult.

Also handy for skidding between buildings for cover when your looking for a place to drop troops and crates in urban areas....
  21. Got it....WinRar worked
  22. I found post on how to extract the .lua file but I think I just need the right zip viewer. I can't find WinRar on my computer or the app store. What zip viewer do you use? thanks randy
  23. thanks for the mission fixes -- we got smoke! but I still don't quite understand how to find the .lua files. I tried a zip viewer but it would not open a .miz file. It only opens .zip and .rar files. Can you elaborate a little more.... thanks randy
  24. If someone knows where to find the init file CTTS.lua it could be loaded by the first trigger in the editor and the mission would probably work. 1.5.3 is not running the init files. I have been able to get all the Deck script missions with the NewHuey.lua init file to work this way. I can't find the CTTS.lua for these missions...
  25. thanks for the suggestions....I am trying to avoid projects due to old age and it hurts but I might have to cave. I was sure I saw a nice pre-fabed cover when I was looking for a mounting solution but maybe that was just old age as well...
