I realize I'm probably talking to myself here, but I just tried all of them...Mint, Worn, Worn out. ALL work...except the Su-27SM one. I'm either missing something or it is simply not set up correctly. All of these install in the exact same manner, everything is there that I know needs to be there. Yet I don't see the SM skin in the sim.
-
Correction, I tried the MINT version. It does indeed work. I am comparing the two side by side, all aspects that I'm aware of. I see absolutely no reason why the Su-27SM mod does not show up in the sim. None...it installs in the exact same manner as the MINT version. I can see the .cdds file, it shows up in the graphics config. BrumTx, are you sure its working? Can you verify if I'm missing anything?

Hmm...I'm using Modman 7.1.1.0. This is what it looks like in ModMan when I try to install it: That "State" showing "CFG" is unique among all the other mods. No others have that. Does this mean anything to anyone?

How about talking to real pilots? I don't think anyone at ED is currently a combat pilot, but they do talk with them.
-
BUMP No reply? Has no one tried these skins yet? They're really good, they just don't seem to work. : (

Ah, I see. I thought that I had read about this one time but I misunderstood. The other evening I was turning away to break lock completely and trying to turn back towards it to see if the F-15's radar would reacquire.
-
Did I miss this in Yoda's documentation? What exatly do you mean "re-acquire"?

If I may, I think Kuky has a point. Keep in mind that I do not play multiplayer, but do like LRM. Although he did mention things calling the realism into question, I think he's arguing more about the principle of LRM. Again, he does have a valid point. First off, please correct me if I'm wrong, but it seems that some are saying that LRM is fast becoming a standard thing on all the popular servers? If not, just assume for a second that it eventually will be. LOMAC was what it was for several years. The "principle" problem for some would be if this really does become the standard rule set for most servers. There are a handful of people who are not ED changing LOMAC and you have to take their word for it that this it is more realistic and "better". They say it is modular but really you're at the mercy of the person running the server as to what options they use. They could potentially just be lazy and apply the whole thing, not bothering to actually read the info and take a poll of what features people want. Now for some, their radar doesn't do what it used to in their plane of choice and they are understandably upset. When they voice this concern to the LRM guys they get told by someone who has very little truly verifiable authority on the subject (other than cross-referencing their claims vs. your own research!), somone who isn't even a developer of the sim, that their newly gimped radar is actually more realistic. They should just suck it up and deal that their favorite server has adopted these changes. Maybe they should go play HAWX if they want to continue using their arcade game tactics and exploits. Maybe the LRM person is right about the fact that their gimped radar is closer to reality than it was before. However, it is difficult for some to accept this after all this time LOMAC has been this way from Mr. Internet "Says it is so" guy who could really be anyone or anything. Again, it is the principle of the thing, IMO. I like LRM -- although I have only tried in in the F-15 so far -- but I can see where others would not because of this.

Question about this ^^^. Anyone know if this is realistic? TBH, the whole way LOMAC models ECM and HOJ has always bothered me. I've always found the way you can lock on to the ECM noise and then magically auto-lock the bandit within a certain range to be hard to believe. Wouldn't you lose HOJ and then have to lock the actual aircraft or is the FC computer in these planes "smart" enough to do this for you? The way this works in LOMAC defeats much of the point of ECM. You can lock up HOJ, shoot, crank/F-pole/A-pole and just wait for your radar to pick them up, all the while your missile continues to guide towards them. The only other sim I have experience with is Falcon, and there ECM can be a potent ability. You get little chevrons on the display that you cannot lock up. These are truly "noise" as you can see these even with the radar on standby. You can eventually "burn through" and lock on at a fairly close range, but again you -cannot- lock up the jamming noise and just lob missiles at it while you wait for a STT. Using ECM provides a clear understandable advantage against non-ecm equipped fighters due to this and also makes your ARH missiles and the enemies' far more deadly. The fact that you can be bugged and not realize you're detected creates this lovely suspense of turning on ECM and revealing yourself vs. not turning on and possibly remaining undetected vs. having that little <M> pop-up on the RWR and chirp away with a pitbull ARH missile seconds away from killing you. Yoda, I like how LRM at least tries to address this by not letting you lock onto ECM at long range. I know you and/or A. S. have experience with Falcon. The fact that locking on to the ECM is still possible seems to suggest that you feel Falcon's version is wrong, or at least since we have the Eagle and Flanker, you want to be more optimistic about this capability.

I just downloaded it and finally gave it a try. It makes a world of difference. -
High Rev Sims calls it quits!!!

It would be awesome, but I'm not holding my breath. :noexpression: -
SAITEK X65F NEW CONTROLSYSTEM
RedTiger replied to huteng's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Hmm... 1. Good to see them moving further away their Buck Rogers x52 and more towards something realistic looking. I never understood why they did that. Their previous HOTAS systems weren't that way. 2. Also good to see them ditching the Lawn Dart HOTAS copy. :music_whistling: Seriously, its been done to death. We have enough F-16 sticks and could seriously make used of something with a dual throttle. 3. If the description is accurate, I'm glad Saitek is continuing to move away from making cheap plastic toys and more towards something that will last. Plastic is fine as long as it is very high grade (see CH products), and if it really is metal, all the better. 4. The price is pretty high. You might be able to justify this because of that extra panel in front of the throttle and if it is really made of metal. They're smart though. I think Logitech and Saitek realize that the HOTAS market is a niche, but a niche that has the cash to burn on these things. -
F-15 radar/VSd function explanation?
RedTiger replied to topol-m's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
Sorry for the drive-by response here instead of actually addressing the question, but these tutorials by Ironhand may help: http://flankertraining.com/ironhand/a2a.htm I know they helped me. :) -
You and me both. ;)

Plenty. Youtube is full of things like that. That's the point. Someone who's their parent's age probably wouldn't get it, would probably just shake their head at that misbehaving kid, while those little kids laugh it up and how stupid and naive they are. Now, post that link on something like 4chan OTOH...where those kids just might hang out...they'll understand that its obviously fake, MAYBE find it funny, but for the same reasons the kids who made it do. Again, that's the whole point. EDIT: For the record...NO, ABSOLUTELY NOT, I do not post on 4chan. I do play WoW and through WoW, I'm vicariously exposed to 4chan. D:

I downloaded this skin: http://www.lockonfiles.com/modules.php?name=Downloads&d_op=viewdownloaddetails&cid=253&lid=1398&ttitle=3GO_Su-27SM_Flanker_Blue_Russian_AF_v1.2#dldetails I cannot get it to work. It doesn't show up on as any of the skins in-game. ModMan (I'm using the latest version, btw) shows it in the graphics.cfg file but not the usual green installed indicator. I found this thread where someone had similar problems with an F-14 skin: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=42604 I have the following present in the graphics.cfg: (no space like "c dds", in the file it looks right) the .cdds file is where it should be. Any guess before I just rip out the skins and put them in temp textures? EDIT: Dumping the extacted bitmaps into temptextures doesn't work. :( 2nd EDIT: Should be 3GO in the title, not 3DO >.<

Correction: Win XP task manager says 100 Mbps speed for me. Hmm....

As for Farah Fawcett, I'm sorry for her tragic death, cancel is a terrible and painful way to die. I think the reason why you might see more mention of Michael Jackson is because people really do understand that pretty faces are a dime a dozen. I mean, throw a rock out your window and you might hit one on accident. :P Really, it isn't all that uncommon or big of a deal if you're thinking with the correct part of your anatomy. ;) Yes, she was also an actor but only went as far as she did because of her looks. I'm not impressed with that and really have little respect for it. True talent, the kind that only comes around once in a generation or two, however, now that's a rare thing indeed. Say what you want about him being a wacked out nut job, the man had real bonafied talent. You can hear it when he was just a little kid: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vt9TUy0_GiM That kid in that video is ELEVEN and he can carry a tune better than most. I can tell you that I still listen to the songs from Thriller from time to time. That talent was lost in the his poor management of his image, and that is another tragedy in of itself. In many ways he brought all of that upon himself, IMO. If you can't appreciate the fact that the world has just loss one more talented person, there is nothing I can say to convince you otherwise. I'm beginning to re-discover being a musician after a long time out of the saddle, so perhaps I'm just more sensitive to this now than I would have been before. :)

Well said, Poko24. That man was a genius. Incredible talent in singing, dancing, and business. He had a very difficult childhood dealing with fame at an early age and being abused by his father. He will be missed. R.I.P.

Hmm...I'm going to do more research on this, interesting. Just a quick google revealed what I suspected, the rest of the world is indeed eating the US's lunch when it comes to broadband speed vs. price. How the times have changed! :O EDIT: To be more specific...they seem to be doing much better on the maximum end of things. The basic packages are comparable, but everyone seems to have much faster max speeds than what is readily available and affordable in the US.

I'm using a cable modem through Time Warner Road Runner in a populated are in an apartment complex where most are probably also using the same provider I am. I'm not really too savvy when it comes to classifying things in terms of upstream/downstream etc. What I CAN tell you is that if I get a 650k per second download rate, I'm doing pretty good since this is about as fast as it will get. So you can do the math, simplify this to 500k a second and you get 30 MB a minute. Downloading a Gig would take about a half hour. My connection reads as "1Mbps"...you have 100mbps? LOL...wow, looks like Europe is eating America's lunch when it comes to internet access these days. My Cable modem package isn't even the most basic one!

So I'm downloading this free trial of Age of Conan. I've heard its finally been patched up to a "not suck" level, so I want to give it a try. The damn thing is 11.8 GIGABYTES...and has a 6 gig patch. I looked at that and I felt like Doc Brown in Back to the Future: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bnqtXOi1iaY So, its 1999 all over again. I'm back on dial-up trying to download a 500 MB file and I'm in disbelief that it will take 6 hours to finish. The size of things you are expected to download is getting ludicrous again. What's next, gentlemen? How is technology going to catch up again and make downloading stuff as fast as it was a few years ago?

FAKE. (but funny ;) ) He tried to stick the remote up his butt. O.o

Pound for pound, plane for plane, out of sims I've actually played, IL2...no question. I still look at the release date of IL2, remember playing the original version and scratching my head still wondering exactly HOW they got those flight models feeling so right that long ago. I don't know much about the development...maybe UBI gave them an ass-ton of funding? Anyways, complaints about the unrealism of certain FMs (I'm looking at you Mr. P-51D), the ability to fly those planes by the seat of your pants is insane. My plane of choice was the BF-109F and I swear I could -feel- the edge of envelope. I could tell just when a little more of this or that would cause the plane to stall or spin and stay there right on the edge. I could get in a scissors at crazy slow speeds and just finesse the plane into enough lead using mostly rudder and a little stick to get some lead for a shot as the bandit overshot. I enjoyed setting up huge AI vs. AI furballs just to dive and pick off bandits one by one unawares from above, climbing to a near stall, flipping over and diving at another one. If the real thing was anything like the simulated version, I agree with Gunther Rall, it must have felt like the non plus ultra. Not much to compare combat sims to since they are few and far between, but that's my vote. :)

Character assassination? If you think what I said is character assassination 1. You're wrong 2. I'd hate to see what you think when you see the real nasty underbelly of what the internet has to offer. No, sorry, what I said was meant as humor through self-deprecation, which is probably the only humor you can use on the internet without everyone getting their egos/feelings hurt. I said my opinion about A2G and you showed me otherwise and I shut up. I self-deprecate because I know that most people here know more than me about this stuff, but you know what? This forum is an oddity and not even close to the norm. You don't see medival warfare experts on fantasy RPG forums discussing the intricacies of how chainmail is forged, for example. Its part of what makes these boards entertaining, but it can also be a strange sometimes if you just step back for a moment, detach yourself from it and view it from an outsider's perspective. ;) Many people have an area they are knowlegeable about (myself included), but that area is not usually interesting to the lay person and they don't have computer games that require knowledge of the subject to play. I have no desire to pick a fight on this forum and no reason to pick a fight with you. I apologize if you were offended by what I said.
