  1. Grats! :)
  2. Gonna quote this for emphasis...has this been state anywhere? I have not seen it. Can we not discuss limited activations unless this is actually the case?
  3. There are many Western simmers who prefer to fly Western aircraft. There are several, not to name any names, who post on this very board. I can guarantee you that a well-advertised game in the US where you fly an F-16 and bomb the crap out of an Easter-block opponent is going to sell hand over fist compared to a well-advertised game where you fly a MiG-29SM and bomb the crap out of a Western or even a fellow Eastern-block armed opponent. This is doubly so if you're trying to approach casual players too. Why do you think in the 90s during the golden age of sims, you saw so few Russian aircraft sims vs. gobs and gobs and GOBS of the same US planes over and over again? There was that Novalogic MiG-29 sim, the Fulcrum addition for Falcon 3.0, and the Flanker series. That's about all I can think of. There might be more, but they're no where near in number compared to all the US ones. How many here who are Westerners knew what the Su-25 was before playing Flanker? I sure as hell didn't. But I DID know what the A-10 was. Had anyone heard of the IL2 before IL2? Not me. By all rights if we were being fair we should have more Western European planes, but I have no clue how available info is on those. Info is readily available for US and Russian stuff, so thats what we get.
  4. I really don't mean to just pick on this part of your post, but I have to. What "other kick arse sim"? Right now we have LO/FC, whatever flavor of Falcon you want (and they all taste similar). Then you have Fighter Ops which...well...is it even in the alpha stage yet? Besides this you have three broad groups I call "the oldies", "Oleg", and "the obscure theatre of operations". You can pick from old glide-ready sims from the 90s, whatever Oleg makes -- which will not be anything concerning modern air combat -- or pick something like Jet Thunder which is a niche of a niche. Not everyone wants to fly a mud mover in the Falkland/Malvinas war. Therefore, I'd argue that you really, really, really do want to have your sim last you -at least- ten years. The really sad thing about all of this stuff is that *I* personally want ED to succeed and keep making sims. To be perfectly honest, I have zero confidence in FO, I don't want to play a bunch of old-ass sims when I can barely tolerate F4AF, and I see Oleg's sims as just side bars I pick up when I want to fly vintage aircraft. Even if Fighter Ops was out, I don't want a one-sided sim where I go out in my F-15C and destroy swarms of sterile, nameless MiGs. The BEST thing that can happen to a sim is having detailed and accurate player-flyable aircraft on two potentially enemy sides. Even if you discount multiplayer where this type of thing is a no-brainer, this still greatly enhances single player. Eagle Dynamics, to my knowledge, is the ONLY developer even doing anything concerning detailed Russian equipment. Every time we hear an announcement about CP and such, I can't help but feel like this is slipping a tiny bit further away. :( If I ever won the lottery, I'd donate money to Eagle Dynamics, no joke. :D
  5. I looked over the manual. The shape of the stick looks a little suspect. :/
  6. Anything new on this? Bumping and cheering on the completion! :cheer3nc::clap::punk::clap::cheer3nc:
  7. This was a cool idea, thank you. I looked at Krasnodar (one of my favorites) and was able to see lots of Su-25s, MiG-29s, and what looked like MiG-27s. Cool stuff!
  8. +1 This is the one I want now more than ever, for various reasons. :pilotfly:
  9. While I do find this hilarious ( :megalol: ), there is nothing unreasonable about wanting something you purchased to still work 10 years from now. I discussed this in a PM with washout. I still have my original copy of Half Life, 10 years after I bought it, and I can install it on any machine I wish with zero limitations. Think about it...how old is LOMAC/FC? The 10 year mark isn't so far away, and we are STILL playing it!! Food for thought. Now excuse me while I go ask my wife to spank me...
  10. AFAIK, monocoque just means that it doesn't have a supporting frame inside. Similar to some automobiles having unibody construction; all the weight and stress is bore by the outer skin itself.
  11. Judging by his post count and date, he might be new. :D I'm sure you've seen the case where a newbie comes to a forum and starts asking questions or wants to discuss stuff that has been discussed ad nauseum before because they are ignorant of how common the topic is. People either humor them or tell them to do a search. Same thing here, except the new poster may not grasp how little tolerance there is for this particular topic.
  12. I watched that entire video. Interesting stuff...funny to see some guy do a speech and write a book on some of the things I picked up in college and some of the same things I have pondered myself. My take away from that video is that I wonder just how much piracy really does hurt a very niche product like DCS. In truth, I'm beginning to wonder how much it really hurts ALL software developers. I'm beginning to wonder if all those measures out there against it are really protections againsts loss of income or just stubbornness and refusal to see reality on the grounds of some meaningless concept of "legality" that will stop piracy about as well as the surgeon general's warning stops cigarette smokers.
  13. Hey! Now someone gets it. ;)
  14. About the new engine...you really have to wonder about that. I can remember being floored by the graphics of Flanker 2.0 and being astounded at the screenshots from LOMAC. It would be crazy if this is Flanker/LOMAC all over again where they try to make their engine future-proof!
  15. This really ticks me off... I couldn't care less if someone pirates some bit of Ubisoft of EA garbage since all of that stuff is a dime a dozen for them anyway. The fact that piracy knows no discretion means that everyone is subject to it, including ED. And this is sad because I worry about a company like ED's ability to survive losses like this. I'm not surprised by this at all, unfortunately. I could say something simplistic about not having a staggered release discouraging those who would grab an illegal copy since I had thought about that, but thats all just speculation. It probably would have been cracked anyway. :( For those who are upset about the changes due to the compromise...well, this is par for the course, folks. You should be familiar with the concept of one person ruining the fun for everyone by now. It sucks, but that's life.
  16. You have to wonder about this, not just in terms of the USAF but for everyone. The steady stream of combat aircraft development and procurement slowed to a trickle after the Cold War ended. I think there's the risk that all the old aircraft will become unflyable and there won't be the budget or desire to replace them on a 1 for 1 basis. Maybe that won't be necessary.
  17. Is it just me, or am I the only one who sees very little difference between that model and the one we have? Mainly the canopy and landing gear looks different. If it weren't for that, I'd mistake it for just another skin. No offense is intended to the modeler at all, I have no room to talk since I have never attempted to do any modeling, but I'm just not seeing any vast improvement. I think the models for the flyable planes are quite good, considering they were created over 6 years ago. The only things I've seen better are CG rendered ones that are too complex for LOMAC. I also don't like to use custom models because you're usually stuck with very few skin options.
  18. Yes, I bet he will too. :) I agree with him, depending on the aircraft. Those just aren't the one I'm most interested in atm. Well, the idea is that today's 5 minute airfield is tomorrow's 30 minute one. ;) Plus, maybe my airfield is intentionally the first (and final) rest stop for visitors planning on uninvited longer trips. Maybe that airfield doesn't have much of a choice right now and I have a death wish and volunteer to defend it. This reminds me of taking off from Seoul on Day 1 in the F4AF. You can see the FLOT from your airbase. At night its a regular fireworks show. Seeing Patriots launched around you as you take off isn't uncommon. The DPRK hasn't been nice enough to ask you if you'd like to move you fighter wing back a few kilometers before attacking. It can be a steady stream of very short CAPs and CASs.
  19. That's easy, whichever one is nearest to the front. :gun_smilie: So...I guess that usually means whichever one is closest to the Kerch strait or the Georgian border. Makes me wish LOMAC had the ability to put in some make-shift air strips.
  20. There's a little bit after that quote about needing to develope the WAFM to coincide with releasing air to air-capable planes. So I'm fairly certain that the A-10 will be next.
  21. Maybe this is best brought up after everything is all said and done. I doubt there will be much attention from the ED guys with all the Black Shark stuff going on. We can speculate all we want, but we all know we wanna hear from Wags, EvilBivol, or someone.
  22. I'm gonna put my stamp on this one here, because this is worth asking. :notify: I remarked that I was surprised that no one had brought this up int he 1.13 thread stickied to the forum and it basically served as a very small speed bump for the ensuing F-15 VSD conversation, i.e. no one cared. Lets hope this thread stays civil. ;)
  23. Whether or not it is this simple to change it to English (I highly, highly doubt it), that is a rather interesting idea. Makes sense. Why possibly sell BS for $15 to everyone when Westerners will gladly pay more. Do NOT take this as a jab at ED. Because: 1. It makes good sense. 2. I would do the exact same thing 3. I'll be buying BS even if it costs 10 times this amount! ;)
  24. Glad I'm not the only one who took the title a little too literally... :D
  25. QFT. I'm not overly mechanically inclined, but I'd gladly pay $200 for the hassle of getting an IR head-tracker pre-built. I'm also under the opinion that FreeTrack will not work as well as TIR with the vector improvement, especially since sims are specifically developed to use that hardware. But whatever works for you. Anything is better than padlocks and hat switches. :)
