  1. Hold up, you have EIGHT LO installations Ironhand? Wow... Anyway, that actually answered a question of my own, the multiple installations thing. I tried to get plain LOMAC but it wouldn't let me, and I don't think I'm smart enough to go through all that rigamarole just to add a downgrade ("Add a Downgrade" sounds like a Windows Vista reality show, no?). Oh well, Happy New Year to all!
  2. Hell no, it fired about six, all flew up about 300ft and blew up, missile warning went off for about a second. No countermeasures, nothing, it just went up and blew up. I've had Tunguskas do that too, but the bullets still work. Found that out the burning-jet-fuel way.
  3. One cool thing about TrackIR though is that you can really customize it. I'm not familiar with his little "wiiware" but I know that you can adjust the curves of what each motion of your head does in the game with TIR. If the wii thing doesn't let you do that, then the old FAQ question of not looking at the screen will be very valid. I dunno, I have TIR4 and I'm very happy with it, I'll be using it for years to come and I couldn't fly without it.
  4. Well, I think it should be simplified a bit in that regard. I think ED should just take the average failure rate of each weapon and model randomized failures based on that data. There really aren't enough airbases and groundcrew aren't modelled at all in the sim *hint* so it's difficult to include that kind of detail. Just remember this, according to the F4:AF manual, Allied Force features such failures as well, and aren't we trying to best them in realism here?
  5. The difference I see is that his Wii didn't let you really look around much in 3D, just move. He could move in, move up, move side/side, but he couldn't look side/side, look up, or tilt his head. The latter two really change your FOV a lot, and I think it would be hard to make it as 3D as what he got. I noticed things in MSFSX were not even close to being QUITE as immersive as what he got with that room. Maybe I'm just confused...
  6. I love the idea, it would totally revolutionize the Sparrow, R-27, and especially the Phoenix.
  7. I've had that happen too, I took out a Tor with guns and no ECM or chaff, not maneuvering, nothing, all in a Flanker, a plane I suck in. Strange things.
  8. That first one is a good indication that the rift between console and PC is narrowing, because he just made himself a 6DOF TrackIR out of a Wii. As for the screen thing, I can just see that kind of thing revolutionizing board meetings and putting SmartBoards out of business. Why buy the board when you can use your TrackIR 6 (with 18DOF, lol)
  9. Fuel... truck... hellfire... sweet... Please ED, invest a few minutes (or more?) and give the fuel truck(s) some special mega effect, maybe just recycle the FAB-1500 explosion.
  10. I'm not a modder but I'd imagine that a pic of the top of the jet would help...
  11. To add on that, I sincerely think that ED should incorporate Walmis' F-15 model into DCS and/or v1.13! It would seriously be a sales boost to have that good of a model of the most popular aircraft* in the game to show on the website. Seriously, how can you refuse adding this kind of beauty to the sim? *Data based on long-running poll on Lockonfiles.com and may not include the non-english-speaking fanbase as much
  12. I'd do something like that too if I wasn't relying on parental units for income. It's hard to explain spending money for a game you already have to someone who's paying for it. Although I did buy two copies of FC, one for a friend last Christmas. His computer isn't good enough to play it so he just uses his Xbox to play Halo 3. That's sad.
  13. Don't mess with Oregon. If only they didn't have proximity fuses... This was a time before I had the Walmis model, if only I'd had that installed... yum. What are they going to tell his widow? Let's see your measly Flanker to this!
  14. I think the F-16 and F-18 were just prototypes in '75 no? I dunno, those were the days, I was born in '91 so I'm just going off the Discovery Channel on that one :P
  15. http://www.thebattlesim.com/index.php?end_pos=133&scr=products&lang=en It's either TBS Part I or TBS Part II, I can't remember. BTW, one of those also shows the Harrier, haven't seen any screens or read any updates on that one (cough).
  16. Okay, so that terrain texture thing... I have the version from Lockonfiles, but that didn't do that kind of stuff. To clarify, the one on the 'Files is just an earlier beta right? I saw the Ironhand video "Taking in the sights" and he had a better one than me, I'm assuming he has a newer version? Thanks.
  17. Think 1975. If you're referring to LO in particular, then yes. I thought it was totally accurate back in those days, long time ago.
  18. I think this thread refers specifically to the thing shown in the TBS video. It's obvious you can do FAC already, it's one of the Hawg's operational roles complete with smoke rockets (four Zuni smokers in a 19-tube hydra launcher though?). Anyway, while you can surely act as a FAC, you can't necessarily BE a FAC with the whole kit and kaboodle... or can you? That, my friends, is the question being presented here today. (At least, I think that's what F.I. meant by this thread)
  19. I prefer A/A if it's done right. In LO, it ain't done right, primarily due to the missiles, you can't get one to hit. I mean, I've had people online outmaneuver a Sidewinder fired at the perfect range (it gets there right about the time the rocket goes out) and all they did for evasion was to pull G. That's it, they pulled more G than the missile, no countermeasures, just G. Although I will say this, when it IS done right, it can get very scary, I won't even TRY to take on a Flanker in F4:RV unless I'm in a Raptor or some similar beast. Anyway, the point is that A/A is only fun with good opponents and good missiles, while ground attack has less potential (for me) but can also be quite nice (I must admit though, I'm sick of the Hawg, it is TOO SLOW).
  20. This is a little late, but one thing about the "collision box" concept. This was used in MSFS (I believe) and worked a little because two such boxes intercecting meant instant death, even if it was an A380 striking a shrub. However, with DCS' advanced damage model, that kind of thing might be very difficult to implement I can just imagine angry videos of noses being sheared off after a collision with air, or the whole thing just exploding when one got too low. This is definately something to not mess up, and I think when the new engine comes we might be seeing the average player's system going up in power enough for some nice interactivity. I'm not saying this is reasonable for performance, but the vegetation in Crysis is damn slick.
  21. I was wondering about that. Looked very interesting in those TBS vids.
  22. Okay, not really, I made this video 11 months ago. The reason that I said it's just in time for Christmas is that runs like a commercial, like you're going to buy an F-15 for someone special. By the way, I'm not ruling out buying an F-15 for someone special, particularly me, I was BORN special! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y7UFeRoo7sQ The background on this is that I was making a powerpoint for school and my assignment was the F-15 (my choice). I thought it would be nice to include a video to show some pwnage. I included a lot of Black/White HUD footage to make it seem a bit more real. Reviews, advice?
  23. I've got a few I've compiled over the... 'bout a year now. Trigger Down. Now next time, try and maintain your energy so that last pic doesn't happen, eh? While kinda impressive, the F-16 in RedViper climbs faster. Yay for SloMo, I wonder if any of these hit that IL-76 10nm out there? Probably not. This picture has gotten me in more trouble than any other. "Hit the brakes and he'll fly right by." "... And in other news..." This is my desktop background. I was trying to make a pic to rival AceCombat 6 and I don't think I did too bad.
  24. A note for when you DO make trees collidable. I really don't want to see the trees represented as solid-steel walls of unbreakableness. In the book Chickenhawk, Robert Mason revealled that on more than one occasion he'd use the Huey's rotors to play lawnmower to hack away some branches if a clearing was too small or if the Huey was overloaded, etc. The result was some minor damage to the rotors, but nothing dangerous. I don't know about the rest of you, but this kind of thing says SpeedTree to me. I wonder if SpeedTree allows for that kind of thing...
  25. I almost fell out of my chair when I saw Santa lined up on the carrier, classic!
