  1. As an Eagle guy, I can tell you now that some good notching and good cover from the mountains will save your hide if you're lucky. I happened to note a T-Frog on the 104th and went to intercept the other day, he went low and completely disappeared from the scope - gone. I only happened to find him visually at my 4 o' clock and after a full-burn chase, got a max-range AMRAAM shot at 3nm. I got lucky, but I would definately say that the best methods are not those of escaping the jet, but his radar. The only way I can think to do this is put him on your 3-9 line and go and fast, preferably with some mountains for cover. The fast part is great because when you disappear from the scope, it won't take much time for you to be *anywhere* from his perspective. Just my thoughts, I wouldn't recommend hitting the deck over plains because on MiG-29S driver found out over the weekend that my radar doens't give a single solitary **** what angels you're at if the ground is flat (although it did require some radar-babysitting to work it)
  2. http://www.simhq.com/_commentary/all_032a.html SimHQ article on the subject by the quirky IL-2 guy "Dart". I don't have the wife/girlfriend problem because, in order, I'm only sixteen and I'm not at the top of the social ladder so to speak. However, I too have a financial menace, known as the Mother. While maybe less likely to come down hard on flightsim purchases, this is only because there is no flightsim purchases unless she is doing the purchasing. My problem is not one of getting her to "let me" buy something but rather to actually go out and buy it for Christmas or something without balancing the equation by cutting off the food supply or similar. It's starting to get to the part-time job stage which will begin in Summer, which will hopefully bring a major pre-DCS/FighterOps upgrade. Continue to carve away the stone boys.
  3. I seriously almost cried when I saw that boneyard pic, I honestly started shaking! That is the most horrific picture I've ever seen!
  4. I think the Super-Speacial-Awesome-Chocolate-Covered-Mega-Pod, Sniper XL is also available for A-10. Sweetness.
  5. Wow, and here I thought that the real F-15 actually stopped you from pulling more than 8.75 like it does in LO :D
  6. Call me foolish but, what are we discussing here? Is this some ongoing project I was unaware of? I don't feel like downloading a "mystery mod" so can someone explain? Thanks.
  7. Okay, so let's say I want to edit those default F-15 skins that came with LO, where can I find them and is it even possible to edit them at all?
  8. I'm having some trouble installing Eagle skins here. I've got an F-15 ACTIVE skin set in the #1 US spot, and had an Oregon ANG one in the #2. The OANG one just replaced the fin, leaving the default... everything else, and it worked fine. BUT, I love both of these and all the skins at lockonfiles replace the #1 or #2 skins, and that's bad. So, how do I set them up to go in #3, #4, #5, etc? I had a hunch, because one which went to #2 had a bunch of 2's in the file names (YaddaYadda-DEF-2) and so I replaced all the twos with threes, then sent them into Temptextures. It seemed to work fine, the ACTIVE, ANG, and Desert (new) skin worked great in #1, #2, and #3, but a bunch of the other ones had the default grey tailfins but everything else was desert. Can someone explain how to monkey with it so I get all the skins working right?
  9. Personally, I think the -35C looks awkward, I suggest doing the -35A so you don't have to do new control surfaces.
  10. There was a large Fracus on Lockonfiles, maybe that had something to do with it. I got there too late to see but there was aftermath discussions of some major nuclear gloom and doom that had been flung.
  11. That does not make me feel any better. I swear, if they start ripping Eagles apart with a big crane like they did to Tomcats, I'm going to get the biggest gun I can find and just start shooting people. The F-15 is like a family member to me... even though I've only seen one about five times!
  12. I don't like that plane a lot but I just have to save that! Here's a MudHen somewhere in Rainy ol' Britain giving us some G. Father and son, these stand as the best jets ever made, IMO.
  13. I find it very likely that the Flanker managed to defeat the F-15. By all accounts, it is a more maneuverable airplane at low altitudes with a much lower turn radius and a higher turnrate. If the fight was taken to, I don't know, maybe Angels 35 then the story would likely be different, the Eagle is famous for being the world's best jet for transonic high-altitude dogfights where not even an F-16 has an advantage against it. Interestingly enough, I read an article from a US pilot who's flown Hornets, Falcons and probably others, who said that while the Flanker could turn good and had a great rollrate, it was sluggish on the controls, the aircraft was not good at changing G very quickly and he thought it would likely make a gunshot a lot harder than a Falcon or Hornet who are stable as rocks (and in the Hornet's case, just as fast as one).
  14. My clock says we're posting two hours apart, and we're up to 85% Wow.
  15. IMO, it makes more sense to release the Apache first as it would pair up the two choppers an make room for fixed-wing jets. This is probably why most people thing this way, because it is the option that makes logical sense. Now, there's obviously something that ED knows that makes the A-10 work better, and I'm fine with that becaue I personally like the A-10 a lot and can't wait to get my paws on it.
  16. I love that thing! I've been doing BFM in LO and now F4 for a while now and I feel like a dunce!
  17. One of the great things about sims is that anyone can participate given a few basic parameters (will, technology, fincance). Many, many people would love to pilot an F-15 or Mirage or something, but simply would not be allowed because of their physical capabilities, some people are naturally not as good as others, physically. Simulators remove this barrier and isolate skill and practice as the variables that produce success, leaving luck and randomness out of it. If we begin to include things like individual-specific G-tolerance, then we make the experience harder for some than others. While an interesting idea, I think it is best to simulate tolerances of a fighter pilot plus g-suit plus AGSM. I believe LO attempted to do this, and we can see that it failed, it took too pessimistic a road (which favored the low-speed maneuvering characteristics of the Su-27 and MiG-29 over the F-15 incidentally).
  18. OMG!!! He's right! ED, we need SAR choppers, we already have the internal model detail and the pilot can already walk around IIRC. I don't know the kind of modification this would entail, but video-makers would be in heaven!
  19. Aren't we talking about guns though? Guns don't need a lock. Although, if you tried that "Auto-Fire" trick with an R-73 then things could get ugly for Boris12.
  20. Here's an interesting thought. With UCAVs starting to appear, it might be necessary for someone to pilot the plane remotely for best effect... we could have teenagers fighting (and winning) Iraq III from their homes with Saitek x73 HOTAS and TrackIR 8. Maybe that deserves a topic because it's slightly OT here, but it would moot the G problem and allow pilots to focus much better on operating the systems (maybe not in a PC environment, but a squadron of pilots downing people from full-cockpit photoreal simulators in a building would combine the lack of G of simming with the easy interface of a cockpit.
  21. I second the motion, that thing was cool, even though it's now outdated.
  22. Don't forget 7'2" and 90lbs, tall skinny guys don't do G as well as short, stout, goblin-like creatures. The cockpit of an A/A fighter is one of the few places in the world where you WANT high blood pressure.
  23. It doesn't lock for me, I always have to go bore, HMD or vert scan to get a lock then manually switch to guns. It's very annoying, give me my F-15 functionality any day. The only thing I can guess is that you have a different version than me, non-FC maybe? I would all but rule out the HUD scan, they have that mode in the F-16 and it's never used because it's so slow. I'd have to see it work to tell you, Sorry.
  24. Incredible, with the landing lights I could've sworn it was FSX absolutely maxed. I literally said to myself "how did he get the Walmis model in FSX!?" Anyway, it left me with some questions, which would probably already be answered if I could read French... 1) I've seen the desert terrain mod on Lockonfiles but it says it only works on 1.02, is that incorrect? 2) That effect with the landing light, I'm guessing that's an effect you edited in, if not then I need a link. Then there's one suggestion rather than a question. During the fight scene, it gets rather dull really fast, even though the angles and action are great. Just add some tense or fast-pased music to be in the background and give the whole thing some admosphere, like in FighterPilot: Operation Red Flag. Thanks, again, the movie is incredible. On a scale if 1-10 I give it 14.
  25. I read a thread on the FighterOps forums and it was almost unanimous that even though it was unrealistic, the 'reduced' setting was WAY more realistic than the so-called 'realistic' setting. For what it's worth, 'reduced' much, much closer to the effects you get in Falcon 4.0 (I use RedViper so mileage may vary). So, attention all mission builders, use reduced settings to simulate a friggin' G-suit!
