Mission timings and darkness
sjebens replied to Reflected's topic in DCS: P-51D Debden Eagles Campaign
Uhh, you might want to think your logic through a little more… -
I’m not an expert but I believe information like this was always given out in magnetic north. At a minimum, it should be specified somewhere what format the headings are using. Also, in the briefing for mission 1, page 2, under engine start and form up. It says to contact Kenway on button D that should be button B. I’m really liking the campaign so far, the detailed briefings are great!

These kind of posts are seriously annoying when Razo+r makes another post in a topic to just complain about another post complaining about the original post. It just wastes people's time to have to open them up just to see what the new post is talking about.

From the book Clean Sweep: The Mustangs that arrived had been modified by VIII Technical Command when they arrived in England with an additional gas tank mounted immediately behind the pilot in the fuselage on the Center of Gravity that could carry an extra 90 gallons. When this was filled, pilots discovered that the airplane was slightly tail-heavy, which restricted maneuverability. Operating procedures were modified so that a pilot took off with gas fed from the wing tanks; once airborne he would switch to the cockpit tank to burn off that fuel before reaching enemy territory; when that was empty, he would switch to the drop tanks until either they were empty or the enemy was engaged. The fuselage tank was invaluable, since it provided sufficient range that the P-51 could reach any target in Germany with the combination of fuselage tank, drop tanks, and wing tanks.

P-51 Instant Action mission “Scramble” bugged
sjebens replied to sjebens's topic in Bugs and Problems
My fault! I had a joystick I wasn’t using that was still connected to DCS and it had the gear lever up. I’m an idiot. It is kinda weird though that this is the only time I’ve seen it be an issue. Flying campaigns, etc never had the gear mess up at the start of the flight - just that Instant Action mission. -
P-51 Instant Action mission “Scramble” starts with P-51 on the runway with only the left gear down. The plane immediately settles and prop strike!

It's the v63 update from Oculus that broke it. Look around for more details.

Thank you! I thought I was going crazy - same campaign.

Mission timings and darkness
sjebens replied to Reflected's topic in DCS: P-51D Debden Eagles Campaign
That's the reason I was asking instead of just doing it. I have asked DCS to fix it, but until they do, I'd like to play what I paid for. I understand the images showing the times and maybe some of the text messages wouldn't line up, that's why it's a workaround - it doesn't need to be perfect but at least you can play it. The developer was going on and on about not budging because of 'historical accuracy', but he has no issue with using the Henley airfield to stand in for Debden even though the map, etc is no longer correct. I understand sometimes you have to work with what you've got, and that's all I was asking. Anyway, this is a moot point now since I've invested the time to fix it myself. It plays perfectly. -
Amazing Campaign so far. Mission 4 scoring bug?
sjebens replied to andygg's topic in DCS: P-51D Debden Eagles Campaign
I finished mission 1, returned home (barely, the train exploded right when I was over it - holes everywhere but the engine was still good!), parked, and then ejected to watch everyone else land. I got a 50 for the mission. Did I mess everything up by ejecting? If so, how do you end the mission? Do you quit from inside the cockpit? -
I've been trying to copy over the routes in each mission over to my own maps. I could be wrong, but every heading given seems to be in true north and not magnetic north. It was my understanding that all mission planning was done with magnetic north, am I wrong? Also, the distance seems to be a little off. It'll show a distance of 20 miles with a corresponding line, and then another part of the route will say 25 miles with the line just barely longer than the 20 mile line (more like 21 than 25). I'm not sure if this is supposed to be a realistic 'rough' sketch, or of the measurements are off. I know these are picky but I'm really interested in the navigation aspect.

Developers, would it be possible to get printable images of the maps (Map, Alt, Sat) used in Normandy 2.0? I like to fly like in the 40s, just a map and a stopwatch, and I don’t want to rely on the maps in-game. Thanks!

I’m looking for a map image to print. I like to fly around with an actual paper map like WW2 pilots would actually do and navigate with a stopwatch. The part of flying I enjoy is only having the actual items a real pilot would have - no moving map on the screen to tell me exactly where I am, etc. Is there somewhere I can download an image of the entire map? A 10-mile grid overlaid would be nice also. IL-2 has these for each map and they’re really handy. I’ve tried using actual maps from the time period but these always have detail that is/isn’t in the map in the game. Also, they’re low resolution so when I do print them, they look awful. I've added part of the IL-2 map as an example - the full map was too big to upload.
