  1. Run...run while you can! Once you start down this path, forever will it consume you. But seriously, start small. Order a GP-Wiz40 and learn to build a small panel. Check out my thread to see some of the stuff I do. I'm not an electritio, my wood skills are not that great - but i'm on my third pit now. It's about taking small steps. Realize you'll make mistakes and you need to learn how to roll with the punches.
  2. The fun continues...been a massing more radios and checking them out to see the difficulty of getting them to work with sims. Still waiting for my Leonard board so got time to poke around them. My goal is to preserve the original contents as much as possible. But only remove what is needed to make it sim ready. My radios so far: This is the inside of the INT radio for the Huey. I want to get the main switch to work: After poking around I removed some the top parts to get to the main switch and am able to wire up all six configurations. Overall I think I can wire this module for sim in a couple hours once the board arrives. This is the ADF unit I got...It looks cool but the inside is packed tight: It's going to be hard to get to the areas I need without removing a lot of the things here. So this one is going to be a tough one I'll save for last. This is the NAV/Comm radio: Looking at the mechanics I think I can get to the wires I need to sim it. Even though it's tightly packed...all the wires are oriented in ways I can reach them. Looking forward to seeing if I can get them to work. Pretty much all these I worked on today I got for 25 bucks each plus 12 dollars shipping. I love ebay!
  3. Picked up a UHF radio off ebay and started working on trying to convert it for sim use. Here's the front of it: Inside parts: Inside parts: Inside parts: I started working on removing wires and components I don't need: I removed all un-needed wires and left the ones for the switches and rotary swtiches I need: I ordered a leonard board that will work with it so it should be here in a week or so. I'm also getting some more units from ebay as well. Hoping to have a full set at some point to replace my left panel with actual radios.
  4. PM will be sent shortly
  5. Yeah my skills aren't that great. I know how to do basic solder and how to wire things up. Haven't done a potentiometer yet so I'll pick a couple up to get some practice on. I had a crazy idea this morning thinking about this. Near my area there are some colleges that cater to technology (Drexel and Temple are two big ones). Maybe I should put a listing in craigslist to see if I can find an electrical engineer who loves aviation to help out. Ideally, would be awesome to have real radios actually working well in DCS. I like your idea of using the Oculus. I've been looking at that myself for a bit and waiting to see how much traction it gets in the DCS community. I think it would be amazing to fly with it. I like your idea of using leap motion to do buttons with it. I was thinking someone would design a power glove type deal that could be used in the sim to flick the sim switches.
  6. Here's the link: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Vietnam-War-Era-AN-ARC-51-UHF-Comm-Military-Aircraft-Radio-Control-Head-Box-/121137347802?_trksid=p2047675.l2557&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEWNX%3AIT&nma=true&si=sCqQpOQ9OXFrx12lXe24kwY%252BMrQ%253D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc My though was going to see if I can find a pin out reading for the connector and see if I can work on detecting the changes that way. But it might not be that simple.
  7. Looking nice!
  8. I'm interested bignewy. I was actually thinking about you yesterday while looking at ebay for radios. I ended up winning this gem: am-War-Era-AN-ARC-51-UHF-Comm-Military-Aircraft-Radio-Control-Head-Box-/121137347802?_trksid=p2047675.l2557&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEWNX%3AIT&nma=true&si=sCqQpOQ9OXFrx12lXe24kwY%252BMrQ%253D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc Was going to ask you your advice for getting it to work in DCS. Are your radios and CDU all wired up for USB already? because that would be a good selling point.
  9. I don't envy the guys who have to do the coding. That touch screen alone is going to be a lot of work. I programmed a user intereface for an account managment tool at work a couple years back and as simple as that was, still took like 6 months.
  10. Agreed!
  11. Just wanted to do an update video: Still need to paint some more parts. Also need to get another hard drive in the computer so I can start recording videos as well.
  12. While I know you meant this in jest, it would be cool if space combat could be simulated in the future. After all, there is developement for space vehicles to fight combat. I don't know the limitations (altitude wise) of DCS, but I don't think it can support space at this time. Other simulators like X-plane do have the ability to fly in space and actually design vehicles for space. As for the kickstarter...I pledged 50 bucks. We'll see how far it goes.
  13. Cool. It's a long road but stick with it.
  14. Does the F/A-18A have SEAD capabilities in the sim? If so would it be useful to put the following in the CustomHuman in the CWSType section: iCWS_FA_18 = PlaneType.FA_18, Then add at the bottom: CustomHumanData[PlaneType.FA_18C ] = CWSType.iCWS_FA_18 or am I off the mark here?
  15. Took her for a test spin last night and was only able to find the F-15C cockpit so I used that for all the planes. I tested out the F-15E, F-16A, F/A-18C, L-39, and the Tornado. All worked fine except the Tornado. I think (haven't had time to test) this is because I put a space in the file name between tornado and IDS. Will rename it tonight and test it out. F/A-18C FM seemed a little less agile then I expected, but not to bad. I did attempt a couple carrier landings but had to bolted each time. Last time I hit the deck a little harder then it liked and blew up the plane. Anyone successfully done a carrier landing using this mode yet? Also, and way to get the refueling boom to open? Would be cool to try to do some air to air refueling with a boom.
  16. Interesting. Back in the early days of the World when it was easier to make AI planes flyable - I was able to put a ELINT pod from the SU-25 on a F/A-18 and was using a SU-25 cockpit and was able to get it to use the HARM missiles. I wonder if I can do this again with this mod.
  17. Can't wait to test this out! Can the F/A-18C land on the carrier with the hook?
  18. Your hitting the vortex ring. Basically you are flying in your own downwash. So you have you keep a little speed either forward or to the side. Also make sure you don't raise the collective when this happens since it'll make it worst.
  19. Thanks guys! Will test it tonight.
  20. I just set up my computer with Helios for my cockpit with two monitors. It works great for A-10C but when I switch to the Huey and turn on the Control Indicator it takes up like 1/5 of my screen. I think it's streching it for the total monitor size 1920X2160. Any lua file I can adjust this in?
  21. Can we use the UH-1 Mod cockpit instead of the BS2 Cockpit?
  22. Can I still use the TrackIr 5 profile if I do not use the pro clip?
  23. So made some drastic changes. Will try to make video this weekend. Short story is I'm putting away my A-10C pit and using it's parts in my new pit. So I put in the X65F for the A-10C in the new pit and left the X52 Pro for Huey and P51. Haven't decided which stick to use for FC3 yet...but it'll be interesting. Also put in second monitor for Helios.
