[KNOWN ISSUE] AIM-7M F/A-18C & F-14B Comparative Test
*Aquila* replied to *Aquila*'s topic in Bugs and Problems
Thanks a lot! All discussions about this missile should be an ED problem, now. -
Also happens with other planes. Map bug IMHO.
-
I agree. I make suggestions based on my personal experience. And of course, everyone is free to do what they want according to their affinities. That said, the F-14 is a fantastic plane for a virtual pilot to learn how to fly with his eyes down 100% of the time except the last 12 seconds before landing, and his HUD switched off :)
-
Already taken into account by HB in the bugs subforum: https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=253004
-
Which doesn’t mean you don’t need to learn some basics to get the most pleasure the module can give you :)
-
Without. Just as civilian pilots do. First you learn the basics as do the civilians, then you learn the military specific things. All military pilots first learn to fly with general aviation planes which have no HUD, FLIR, NVG, etc. Most virtual fighter pilots do otherwise and can find themselves in trouble because something is lacking :)
-
New pilots should learn how to fly a plane without a HUD. The ability to use primary instruments instead of a HUD is a game changer in terms of proficiency. And one should practice IFR by night without a HUD. Really. :)

INS Alignment before engine start and missiles...
*Aquila* replied to pstavis's topic in DCS: F-14A & B
The Sparrow is faulty. It’s not my opinion but 1) tested fact and 2) acknowledged by Heatblur. Sure, in some conditions, you’ll get kills. But it’s faulty. https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=253004 -
Title says it all. Can't change the chaff/flare ratio in the mission editor. Bug or feature? [Edit] Chair-keyboard interface bug... :D

INS Alignment before engine start and missiles...
*Aquila* replied to pstavis's topic in DCS: F-14A & B
About the INS alignment process: according to NAVAIR 01-F14AAP-1 (7-36), it's in the RIO's poststart checklist. IIRC, the engines running and bleed air flow are necessary for the system's cooling to be effective. -

AFAIK, no. -
[KNOWN ISSUE] AIM-7M F/A-18C & F-14B Comparative Test

Its sensitivity to chaff is not zero but it's quite low, as far as code is concerned. And for some reasons, some aircraft will chaff it more easily than others (the MiG-29 is on the strong side, the Hornet on the weak one). I don't know if it's realistic but I guess there are a lot of things to be overhauled by ED in terms of missiles, and that's probably why they say they're working on the topic. I can't wait, because AA missiles have been a topic of dissatisfaction for too many years in DCS. We for sure appreciate your seriousness and your willingness to work in an integrated way with ED. Hope they find themselves time to do so. -
Sad to read those news. Best wishes.

DCS: F-14 Air to Air Refueling Tutorial

It will. Same as stationary flight in helicopters: keep those eyes outside :) -
DCS: F-14 Air to Air Refueling Tutorial
*Aquila* replied to 104th_Maverick's topic in DCS: F-14A & B
Hi Wali763. Happy to see you find the way to the basket and take pleasure at it! :) Just a couple tips which may help you: 1- Whatever the plane, switch off the HUD and forget your instruments. AAR is a matter of close formation flying, which means aligning landmarks on the tanker with landmarks on your plane. Air speed indicator is of course of some interest until you're 1 mile behind the tanker. After that, get your eyes out of the cockpit. 2- Each pilot finds his favorite wing sweep setting, as they did IRL. I feel pretty well in bombing mode (55°) when my plane is light and I don't need to fill my external tanks. When I'm carrying heavy loads and need to fill the externals, I prefer 45°. Keep it up! -
He saw F16's 'carrying lantirn pod along with litening for just navigation.' Those LANTIRN pods are not the targeting ones, that's why I suspected confusion at some degree.
-
There’s a confusion here. LANTIRN originally consists in a designation pod and a navigation pod which includes a terrain following radar. Those were used on F-15Es and F-16Cs. But on the Tomcat, only the designation pod was integrated. Its only use in terms of navigation is helping fixing the INS while overflying a known landmark.

[KNOWN ISSUE] AIM-7M F/A-18C & F-14B Comparative Test
*Aquila* replied to *Aquila*'s topic in Bugs and Problems
Good to hear, thanks for your feedback. -
My axis are linear (default) and the Tomcat is by far the plane with which I eat most easily human and AI opponents in gunzo and/or heater combat. Far more easily than with the Hornet. You say its FM is the worst but it's the best one. Try a bit harder and you'll be greatly rewarded.

[KNOWN ISSUE] AIM-7M F/A-18C & F-14B Comparative Test
*Aquila* replied to *Aquila*'s topic in Bugs and Problems
Nice, thanks. I gave it a try. Then I followed your path and brought the exact ED AIM-7M missile to the F-14B. The only modification I made was removing the 'loft_active_by_default' option, which is not relevant in the Tomcat. Thus, the missile behaves exactly the same way as in my tests with the Hornet. NB: I didn't modify any other weapon than the AIM-7M. If you guys want to give it a try, here's a JSGME compatible mod. Aquila ED Hornet AIM-7M for the HB F-14B.zip -

100% in the conditions of the test. If you look at the Tacview files, you’ll see that the AI’s dodge maneuver is clumsy: he always goes vertical upward when shot at. Which is the opposite of what to do. -
maneuver flaps retracting when lowering the gear
*Aquila* replied to undertaker's topic in Bugs and Problems
1) Because the flaps mode associated with the gear down is landing flaps, which is obviously not compatible with maneuvering flaps 2) Because you're gonna need the DLC, which shares the same command as the maneuvering flaps For those reasons, the plane won't let you chose. If you fly by the book, the operations order is: 1) Under 280 kts, wing sweep mode AUTO and confirm 20 degrees 2) Under 250 kts, gear down 3) Under 225 kts, landing flaps down 4) Activate DLC Between 1) and 2), it's possible that the maneuvering flaps are automatically working. As you saw, they won't anymore after 2). -
maneuver flaps retracting when lowering the gear
*Aquila* replied to undertaker's topic in Bugs and Problems
It is. Gears down, you need to use the landing flaps and the DLC. In this configuration, the thumbwheel will control the DLC. NB: when gear is up and you're not using the landing flaps, it's not the DLC you use with the thumbwheel. It's the maneuver flaps. -
You and nobody else asked a question: So I answered you, and the answer is no: You're not the one who decides when a discussion is over. Anyway, if you're in bad mood, I kindly suggest you Sir go for a hike.

Someone already answered this question and it looks like you missed it ;)
