After the F-4E …..Perhaps the F-101 Voodoo Line?
r4y30n replied to Kalasnkova74's topic in DCS: F-4E Phantom
And only armed with the AIM-4… Either way, this thread is getting off topic. Better to put it in the general HB forum. -
Are you asking about why it scans on the right with Sparrows selected? It’s basically double bound, in DCS terms. The pinky switch moves the pattern left/right and changes weapon type. One has nothing to do with the other. What you need to do is put the pattern on the side the bandit is on, get a lock, then worry about weapon selection. Once locked, the pinky switch functions normally.

In other words, we’re repeating history, lol.

AI voice replacement is getting really popular in mods for games in general and I’d just like to point out that feeding AI a real actor’s voice to replace dialogue in a game is theft of their likeness. Soon it may be outright illegal to create these voice profiles but, regardless, it’s just scuzzy to steal someone’s work for your own amusement. Real people work hard to provide voice work and that work deserves compensation. You wouldn’t be happy about someone replacing your day job with AI, would you? https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/technology/after-scarlett-johansson-dustup-ai-lobbying-group-urges-congress-to-outlaw-deepfakes/ar-BB1nXL41

You can’t notch a pulse radar. I’m not sure if you can notch the speed gate on the missile itself.

If you’re on a phone or tablet is it not quicker to pull up the web version in the first place? I took a look at the pdf on day one, as well, and, Adobe crashes aside, the web version really does work a lot better on any platform, particularly when you’re trying to find something specific.

I’m not sure where people are getting the idea that friendly fire only happens with SARH weapons. A sidewinder is just as likely to track a friendly that’s flown across your LOS to a bandit and they can also be slewed to bad radar locks. The solution isn’t to change weapons in a crowded situation like that, it’s to hold fire until you’re confident in your firing solution.

Wasn’t min burner the recommended tactic? I thought I read somewhere about some pilots going min burner on one engine and idle or near idle on the other when going slow.

The offset vertical scan definitely seems useful when in flat turns with vertical separation. That said, I can see why the F-14 ACM modes evolved the way they did.

I’d imagine that would take a special purpose API. Not saying it’s impossible, just an unusual use case for the hardware. But hey, Forza Motorsport ray traces audio so anything’s possible.

There is no mention to connect electrical power in the F-4E Phantom PDF

So will we have the option to bring a case of beer for the chief after having killed it? J/k. Very cool how deep it’s simulated. -
I remember talk a while back that it wasn’t just going to equal the F-14, they were going to expand it to most checklist procedures. You can hear him do some of that when landing.

I mean that’s a little reductive. There’s a lot going on under the hood that’s new and different. To me it feels like he’s much better at finding contacts on his own than in the F-14.

So control indicator confirms no rudder when this happens? And engine gauges show matching power? No issues taxiing?

Turbojets vs turbofans. The Phantom makes roughly the same thrust as the F-14A with a less efficient design.

That was my thought! -
I imagine that's why later aircraft like the F-14 have a separate flood antenna with a pattern closer to the vertical scan/CAA.

Trimming and getting to on speed for landing

I dunno… The USAF versions tended to have different wheels and tires, at a minimum, were the struts actually identical across all branches? Either way, I think your Air Force squadron mates will give you a dressing down for plonking it into the field lol. -

What were the weather conditions? -
I know how you feel. I've never been terribly proficient in combat in DCS and the F-4 takes more skill than I currently have to fight with. Fingers crossed Reflected's Topgun campaign can teach some of the basics of BFM a little better than books and YouTube. Anyhow, super exciting to hear about the modularization and the SDK. Obviously the Viggen and Tomcat will be even more mind blowing once Anvil gets ported over but hopefully it can raise the bar for DCS as a whole by having more of an open forum for development. Why build a whole second crewman NPC yourself when you could just collaborate on Jester to suit your needs?

Diving at constant G (flying straight) isn’t really an effective way to accelerate. As Victory205 said, unloading will help you out and it’s not quite the same thing. Holding less than 1 G (parabolic flight) will temporarily reduce drag to get your speed up.
