  1. There was a fatal incident in an Air Force F-4 in Vietnam due to a canopy actuator rod that came loose and fired the seat when the pilot tried to open his canopy after landing. Probably something related to that. A visual inspection from outside the aircraft was required before the crew could open the canopy. I imagine a fix was worked out and this placard disappeared. Its hard figure out what it is supposed to read.
  2. You have something, probably a tank, on the centerline station.
  3. Yes, the VR goggles six inches in front of your face are hitting various things in the cockpit and bouncing your head into all kinds of strange places I don’t think its Necksafer Someone at HB flies a certain WWII title and thought modeling that silliness was clever. Disappointing.
  4. I wouldn’t let that dumb SOB touch the flight controls.
  5. The same stupid lines from the clown laced with profanity or not are extremely unprofessional. Critical phase of flight and the dumbass is chattering like a school girl.
  6. In A/A TR, you will transmit and receive distance information only between fighters equipped with this capability assuming 63 channel separation. The equipment for bearing transmission is too large for fighters. https://www.scribd.com/document/471300814/FG-TACAN-Yardstick
  7. I’d like to see both as that would be correct. The ‘stick stiffening’ described in the film is the pitch down being corrected by the pilot pulling back to maintain level flight.
  8. I find it a bit hilarious that you are desperately trying to prove I am doing something horribly wrong instead of focusing on whether or not the nose behaving like its connected to a rubber band with Stab Aug on is correct behavior. PS The zero mil sight line isn’t where the airplane is going. But you already know that, which is why you have an AOD.
  9. I am away from the computer this or I would post a video. On a direct bombing attack, popup or otherwise, the target is displaced to one side and you roll and pull to put the target in the pipper. This puts you inverted so a roll back upright is required. In order to roll the aircraft around the fuselage axis requires use of all the flight controls, including some cross control rudder. If you don’t do anything other than a coordinated, positive G roll the pipper will be moving in a great big circle. Chances are you are already doing some or all of what I describe if you are doing much manual bombing. The Phantom, as I said, feels pretty rubber band like in yaw with stab aug on. I notice it in any situation where I need precise pipper control. Strafing, bombing or close in A/A gunnery when I want precise pipper placement to pop the enemy pilot in the noggin. I haven’t tried Stab Aug off for bombing or A/A gunnery yet but I will at some point. Again, it may be modeled accurately. I have flown some jets with similar characteristics although they weren’t fighters. I don’t like it but it doesn’t mean its wrong.
  10. Mach Tuck is the nose down effect when accelerating into transonic. The issue described in the Phantom video is Mach Tuck in reverse, decelerating through transonic, Mach UnTuck if you like. The video does a poor job of making that clear but Mach Tuck is the term applied to the nose down effect when accelerating into transonic
  11. Mach Tuck is nose down due to the center of pressure moving aft with the shockwave at high subsonic speeds. All airplanes experience it. (If you can get fast enough)
  12. Its awful because with it on, I can’t point the nose with the rudder. Its like a rubber band. I am not saying it isn’t accurate. I haven’t flown an F4. It might be perfectly modeled. It does suck for anything requiring a stable lateral nose movement like walking gun rounds from wingtip to wingtip or stabilizing the pipper on a dot on the ground. Cross control rolls holding the pipper on target after rolling in on a popup don’t work well with Yaw Stab Aug on either
  13. I have had to turn off Yaw Stab Aug in order to strafe a little more accurately. I have no clue if current behavior with it on is accurate but it’s pretty awful. I suspect it isn’t correct from some anecdotal evidence.
  14. The Phantom will get very slow, very fast. You can force an overshoot doing this, which can keep you alive. However, once you are this slow, you are going to be seriously vulnerable for quite a long time and recovery might take a lot more altitude than you have available.
  15. In the beginning of your post the AI doesn’t obey physics and BFM doesn’t work. At the end, it doesn’t matter what you do, you always beat the AI. Funny. NOTE: AI has four skill levels. ROOKIE, TRAINED, VETERAN And ACE. I imagine instant action is Rookie. In any case, if you aren’t easily winning against Rookie and Trained, you need some help with BFM. Veteran and Ace are tougher. Few human opponents fly this precisely but they are still predictable. Humans are always more interesting to fight.
  16. I do the same but you always run into something. The other night I got in a jet with the mirrors off. I hadn't mapped that binding. Opened controls menu and scrolled to M. Nothing What system are mirrors in? WTFK! Off headset, and start typing. Comes up Toggle Mirrors. Just plain dumb. I am very happy you don't find it a problem. However, I am here making suggestions for future customers. Just because you don't mind it doesn't mean HB cannot take an easy win by rearranging word order for those that don't really want to remove the VR gear to type in a search field.
  17. PITA in VR, in case you missed that. The presence of a search function doesn't excuse thoughtless naming. The game natively sorts alphabetically, so naming things starting with words like "Left", "Right", "Toggle", "Dispense" is the equivalent of filing employee records by first name.
  18. I also feel the pain of poorly thought out controls naming. Dispense Countermeasures is a great example. It should be Countermeasures Dispense. Why? Because in VR, looking at the alphabetized list is what you use if you don't want to remove your headset to type. So starting a binding entry with a descriptor or function becomes a gigantic PITA. It would be great if HB rewrote the binding names to put the relevant system name first and function and description later. Some examples: Right Engine Master Switch On should be Engine Master Switch, Right, On (Do you know how many bindings start with left and right on the Phantoms? Geez ) Toggle Mirrors should be Mirrors, Toggle (I would never think to look in the T's for a mirror control)
  19. I guess I should clarify. While I do understand that when there is visual damage, there is also something going on in the damage modeling, the damage modeled is not commensurate with the visual presentation. The image posted by the OP is a great example. The aircraft has obviously suffered from a horrible shark attack, yet there is little bleeding and the Phantom retains some use of its flipper, even though its been severed. A few nights back, I took a round from a 23mm gun. The visual presentation was one of smooth areas of missing metal on the left engine and fuselage. Huge swaths of skin apparently melted off, revealing undamaged components underneath. I flew the aircraft home. What sort of secret weapon might cause metal skin to evaporate and leave what is beneath on display in a pristine state?
  20. The damage visuals are pretty bad. Silly even. They have no connection to any sort of damage modeling AFAIK
  21. Fly in single player, end mission, save mission then find the saved file and post it here I think the path is /Users/<you>/Saved Games/DCS/trackfiles but not at my computer.
  22. Grover needs a game track file to troubleshoot.
  23. Yes. I came off an ARM attack and didn’t switch the weapon selector prior to strafe. No guns. Switch from ARM to C. Guns worked. Sorry for lack of clarity.
  24. I have the Manual (toggle) set to a button. It opens fine but will not close unless I hit ESC to open DCS menu, close that menu, then hit button to close manual. Slight annoyance.
