  1. I vaguely remember the ability to disable it per slot in the options tab for the aircraft (right of radio frequencies)
  2. Not being obtuse. Unless switching the generators to external cuts out the battery completely, it is still there doing what it does. And its not going to change the required battery replacement interval in any case.
  3. The engines are air or cartridge start. You aren't going to spool up a J79 ( or any medium to large turbine engine) with an electric motor driven by a battery.
  4. The battery is on the engine master, so I would love to know how "most operators didn’t use the battery".
  5. What I have noticed is that AI do different things in different aircraft, instead of having all of those different things available in a single aircraft. Very simplistic modeling. In any case, I know (for me) fighting AI, no matter how awesomely modeled would become uninteresting in a short period of time. With humans, you generally don't know what to expect unless you know who you are fighting. AI isn't going to be that way in my lifetime.
  6. I was climbing out a few days ago in the Phantom trimmed out when I accidentally ejected (moved that button ) The Phantom flew on its own for 10 minutes. It developed a 20 degree left bank almost immediately and did gentle circles alternating between 15 degrees nose high and 15 degrees nose low (the trimmed pitch was about 10 degrees nose high) until it finally smacked the ground Anecdotal for sure but not a wild untrimmable beast
  7. Thats what I want, the ability to respond to Jester with Tally or No Joy when he calls a bandit plus a third option to say “Tally, now find his wingman, ya dope”
  8. I find Jester useless in WVR. He constantly tells me about the bandit in front of me and doesn’t bother updating me on bandit number 2. I need a tally/no joy response so he will stop looking at the bandit I am offensive on and get his eyes out for other bandits.
  9. E and E-2 are plenty good enough for the Phantom.
  10. You are likely trying to fly with trim, which will cause all sorts of problems. Stop screwing with the trim and fly the plane.
  11. If only ignorance were criminal…
  12. That’s just Captain Narcissism trying to weasel some reflected sunshine on himself.
  13. I would like a Standing Orders Tab for Jester so I can click some check boxes and stop having to answer the same questions every sortie. For example, I would like to be able to check mark <Below 50 Ft> so that he never asks me again if we are going low. Also, I would like to be able to tell him the alignment based on order of preference. Basically, Stored HDG if available, BATH if not, Full if he has to. I am sure there are other things that could be added so that Jester knows what I want based upon our imaginary pre flight briefing.

  14. Levitating WSO. Awesome
  15. The Phantom fuel system is very simple from the pilot’s perspective. The counter shows total internal fuel like it is one big tank. The tape excludes some internal tanks.(Wing tanks) Why? There is a switch to turn off internal wing tank transfer, leaving you with only the fuel on the tape to work with. You can ignore the tape during normal operations. If External Tanks Full lights are on and you see ~ 12K lbs on the counter, you are full.
  16. If you line up properly, nose wheel steering is not required for takeoff. Lineup, smoothly advance the power and correct with rudder as required.
  17. You can disengage. If you get him stagnated across your turn circle and accelerate above 570 as you come around to your egress heading, a Mig -21 isn't going to be able to close to missile range. If you do this while you have enough fuel to get well out of Dodge in full AB, you will be fine. Below, I am fighting 2 AI Mig-21's and it isn't going anywhere. I start a spiral climb to bank some energy for my egress. One bandit decides to go counterflow, so the heading to neutralize his re-entry becomes my egress heading, generally towards home and I do a nose low extension to get the speed way up there and the second Mig can't close to R-60 range. It jumps back in the middle to the last turn before my extension so you can see the range to the follower.
  18. That’s a five minute fight. The bandit is good enough to keep you at bay. You need an egress plan to get out of the fight earlier. If you have the bandit stagnated across the circle, just work it so you are pointed for home and hauling buckets. If he follows, his fuel problems are getting worse while yours are getting better.
  19. You might be on to something. Jester freakout on first takeoff after Cold start was the pattern I saw as well.
  20. Most likely a local hardware issue. Taxies like a simulated airplane for me.
  21. Radio Nav in DCS is extremely unreliable. In the F-5 we were constantly cycling power to radios to try to get A/A or ground based TACAN to function. I was flying Caucasus in the Phantom and got good signal off Senaki and then ‘poof’, signal gone. My only point is I wouldn’t spend too much time chasing radio bugs until we are certain it isn’t DCS core causing the issues.
  22. In a mission I created with AWACS, Jester has given me a complete ‘picture’ including targets over 100 miles away. I just assumed he had a secret Batphone back there.
